    Re: ISDAL

I still owe for Leibherr parts I did not order going back nearly 2 years. This is from placing an enquiry for a price which involved them sending the bits instead, and the receipt of 4 damaged Liebherr doors. Still not resolved. To prevent further liability I stopped Leibherr with them.

I have an outstanding invoice for another item showing on my account from last year, and I paid them in a batch, Iv’e given the cheque number, and confirmed has been cleared. I’ve written all over the statement I send back with a cheque stapled to it, and it still goes on.

Regards D&G, why don’t you invoice D&G direct, we do as with Smeg & MFI, that way we are in control and that lot don’t get a bite of the cherry. I send all mine by EDI and no problems at all.

Clearly ISDA have a problem in accounts.

These were rare even in the 1980’s. They had a D/Washer to match as well IS-1005.

    Most bits NLA.

I remember the weight of the things, carry one out and then take in a new Belling 4-30t and it felt like an empty box.

IIRC there was a transformer in the base of some of them.

They don’t make em like that anymore.

Thank god, adverts were all very well, but it was the same ones every break. Great if it was a race from the far east shown in the early hours as I would record it & FFWD the ads.

Murray is probably enjoying his retirement, but I hope they keep Martin Brundle, I doubt if Steve Rider will be part of the deal, but he was a lot better than Jim Rosenthal.

The idea of UKW or Company getting the work then charging for the work to be passed to engineers would make it the same as it is now through work providers and make us no better than them.

I tend to agree with that. The only way any service group or body could attract manufacturers, insurers etc would be a “one stop shop” for these bodies, where thay have live updated information and single point billing, with single charge rates. Logistically to do all that would mean the same as we have got now, but a new name. Morevover we have to get the message across what can UKW offer that they don’t already have. Not easy, as they are settled in their own comfort zones, and so are a lot of the repairers.

I suspect all that will happen will be a talking shop, and then die on the vine. Would be nice to control it though, prioritise and keep things in order.

Must admit I read it, but could’t get my head round it?

There is a direct service, particularly in the Midlands, and then there is GB-DAR who are as good as their worst agent. So are they trying to put their own house in order, or are they compiling an excuse to rid themselves of the “middle man”?

Interesting, but won’t have much effect either way I imagine.

Must say it never crossed my mind regards Lawrence, and he came to the very 1st meeting in the Travel Inn at Peterborough.

    Re: Overcharging southern company

Not unique to Hants & Dorset, we have them up here in Somerset. Same outfit.

They blitzed our yellow pages, been known to use more than one name and have “ghost” phone numbers for all the big towns.

We have heard stories of engineers driving round with new appliances in the back of the van which are destined for “another customer” which conveniently he says, “you can have this one madam”!

We had a Zanussi written off by them for motor & module, all it needed was brushes. Wev’e had queries from Zanussi H.O. on calls we never attended asking us if we had quoted a customer over £200 on an 18-month old machine, then we get an authority to inspect as a gesture of good will, lo & behold, fixable.

These are only the ones we know about! I wonder if Trading standards are aware?

    Re: GPS Trackers?

The privacy switch will prevent display of the route taken, but the mileage & times from switch off to back on again is still recorded.

Therefore if you allow private use with driver paying private mileage in diesel, the distance is still tabulated. So if an engineer “turns it off” in the day time, or forgets to turn it on first thing, he may be responsible for the miles.

What you cannot do though is install these and not tell them, infringement of rights etc.

Worth a thought to employers thinking of this.

    John.

On the contrary, if an engineer votes with his feet, he must have had good reason. That type of engineer does not fit in with genuine responsible engineers who could well be carrying him.

We installed trackers in all our vans last September.

It is not big brother. Principal reason was tax changes which meant a tax penalty of approx £60 per month per driver. Add to that the work & cost involved regards the submission of P11d forms.

Originally I had the engineers sign a disclaimer they would not use vans for private work, that was o.k. but if one driver was picked up this could draw attention to all vehicles, and should H.M. customs & excise decide to pursue the matter, all drivers would have to back-pay to April 06. It was made clear by the tax office that if one engineer draws attention, they will assume all engineers are abusing the facility.

I had a few “rumbles” and groans, but those that had something to complain about could not answer the question as to why do they not want trackers fitted? The girls in the office start at 8.15 and take the last phone call at 5 p.m. if they finish early, they cannot go early. If an engineer is on his way home at 4 then so be it, he probably didn’t stop for lunch, and there is little point in adding a call at that time of day.

As John said earlier, we can appoint the calls to the best placed engineer, also we can look and if we see one is running behind, and another has some room, we will transfer the call and ease the pressure off the 1st engineer. Additionally before we add another job to an engineer, we check progress first, if it looks like he may be overloaded, we don’t bother him. We don’t watch all day, better things to do, but it gives an indication and we can see for ourselves some of the topography problems.

It has reduced the fuel bills and insurance, enabled us to advise a customer who is chasing approx e.t.a. Also been useful when a customer has been out and tells us the engineer never called, or arrived too early/late.

Turned out to be an investment.

Still waiting for a call back from Jim Frew.
BTW I spoke to the new top man back in December and see that he has stuck his email and phone number on the lastest service info sheet that we received yesterday. So if you want to harrass someone in power……… 😈
    John

Do you know what gets me about that? I’ve never had any information sheets at all from them. I was not aware of AIG until after a raft of rejects, and who the bloody hell is Jim Frew?

Never seen a service bulletin, list of who’s who, what the rates are likely to be, T&C’s naff all.

Yet they can find me when they want something done.

I invoice on the web as well, no problems and you can see rejections next day.

I was not aware of any rate changes if there were any, they passed me by.
