The plot thickens.
I don’t know of this Paul Swift guy, but can read a lot between the lines.

ParticipantRe: One for Alex – How to take the back of a Zanussi
Fantastic. Makes me wonder what the guy managed to do given that small area.
Reminds me of the early Candy machines. They had raw edges like that as well. Their trainer (Mel Barff) used to say the foam around the edges were not there to prevent you cutting yourself, it is there to soak up the blood.
The irony with the Zanussi’s, you took the back off and 17 tub bolts were accessible from the front. Now after 17 years you can take the front panel off, and they no longer use bolts, welded tubs.

Take a look here, well documented subject for us from the training school for the bewildered.

Wait till Martin reads this, he will say You are Nobbut a lad.
Yes 3174’s, superseded by 3314L’s with the spin containers that used to leak on the top deck. They were like supermarket trolleys when you pushed them, would always run off at a tangent, never straight.
3224 & 3226 Sloping fronts, then the 3208, 3221 Clutch driven range, then ultra-modern Matchbox range 3236H & 3243H. 4805 & 4808 D/Washers with the carousel basket driven by a pecker. Then there was their home made one out of Merthyr (November 1974), cannot remember the model, single motor/pump, and a float switch that used to cludge up. Who remembers getting out sequence charts, and following line by line as it progressed? long gone.
If you owned a Foreign Machine, 500 spin was the maximum to expect. Zanussi DL4 & DL6, aka Electra GL4 & GL5.
When I finished a 5 year apprenticeship in 1970, and was left to get on with it, there were at least 10 twin/tubs to every auto, and Monday was always washday.
Over to Martin………

Anyway, more interestingly, I heard a rumour today that troubles me a little. Apparently he and an NESN guy, or perhaps ex-NESN guy, are for starting some sort of whitegoods repair thing up, possibly a network. Very sketchy details for now unless anyone’s heard anything?
But I have to wonder, who the hell’s gonna work with or for him?
K.More to the point, who is going to supply the work for him to manage and send out as a network?
I wonder if anyone has given him the phone number for Andy Craw, who I know is out in the States, they used to be best buddies once, and then there was a great parting of the ways. Probably had too much in common.
At least there is a form of admission in as much as there has been suggestions of refunding the stolen loot. I say he had his chance & blew it. Time he was measured for a suit with Arrows on it, makes a change as before when he was measured for HM Government it was “Hello Sailor.”
Make him walk the plank, or keelhaul the barsteward.

kwatt wrote: I take it you mean Dave Highton? That being the case he’s not been there long enough to get to grips I expect. When you say take over the slot what do you mean?
Agreed Alex, Dave H is a natural successor in many ways and it would make a lot of sense if that were the case. K.Richard Dalley walked straight in, after interviews of course. Whereas Dave has been there a couple of Months. I fancy he is rather high profile to come in as an additional management tier. If you think on it, why do they need yet another expense in the management chain when they seem to have a habit of losing work of late. Not exactly a growing company these days, and they are losing agents, which must be hard for them.
I wonder if a natural successor would have been Julian, but I don’t know the guy’s capabilities. Dave on the other hand has a lot of contacts outside of ISDAL, and perhaps he can rally round the agents, as well as recruit new or defectors. Also Dave is happy to jump into his car, and get out there and see people.
A new head at the top may be good for them, I for one haven’t been happy for a long time, and that is with the operation as a whole, not on personality.

BryanWhich slot, or rather whose slot. I assume Richard still wants to retire, and Dave Highton is well placed to take it on. Talk about landing on one’s feet.

You will need as much info as posssible, it has to look Kosher. In addition there will need to have been an invoice tendered.
You can probably get the info from 192.com However, if you had done business in what looks to have been a haphazard way, forget it.
Perhaps it was the way you worded your post? but it doesn’t look quite right, poor details, no record of proper address and name etc. Assume paid cash, looks like one to put down as experience. In order to get your money, it has to appear to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and fully documented.

A fair chunk of my business now.
They listen, they pay on time and you are guaranteed your money, the computer system is brilliant.
They have their faults, but nowhere near as bad as some. They like to work with their agents; consequently, I like to work with them.
A few other companies could learn a lot from them.

ParticipantRe: Another joke.
A man was walking down the street when he was accosted by a
particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man who asked him
for a tenner or so for dinner. The man took out his wallet, extracted £10 and asked, “If I
give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?”“No, I had to stop drinking years ago,” the homeless man replied.
“Will you use it to go fishing instead of buying food?” the man asked.
“No, I don’t waste time fishing,” the homeless man said. “I need to
spend all my time trying to stay alive.”“Will you spend this towards greens fees at a golf course instead of food?”
the man asked.“Are you NUTS!” replied the homeless man. “I haven’t played golf in 20
years!”“Will you spend the money on a woman in the red light district instead
of food?” the man asked.“What disease would I get for ten lousy quid?” exclaimed the homeless
man.“Well,” said the man, “I’m not going to give you the money. Instead,
I’m going to take you home for a terrific dinner cooked by my wife.”The homeless man was astounded. “Won’t your wife be furious with you
for doing that? I know I’m dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.”The man replied, “That’s okay. It’s important for her to see what a man
looks like after he has given up beer, fishing, golf, and sex.Alex
ParticipantRe: British Gas To Drop Appliance Servicing?
I lost one to British Gas, he was not the best. I made a fuss at the time just for the hell of it, I wonder if he is now regretting his move. Mind you he wouldn’t have lasted. My loss was their gain.

I always go straight to the bottom of the page once I’ve opened view posts since last visit. Page 1 will take 52 posts, newest ones at the top, after that the earlier ones are in page 2.
To open page 2, I do so by right click over “next page”, “open in new tab”. 9 times out of 10, o.k. I then read those first. I always look up the postings from the bottom, then If it times out or I get trigger happy & close by mistake & I’m part way up the page, and if I lose it; then I can pick up from the top 20 scrolling posts in the lower righthand pane on the home screen.
I don’t read all of them in any case, and if I do miss one, chances are It wasn’t one I’m particularly interested in. If it is, it will come back when others add to the subject, and it will possibly be a lively topic, then curiosity will get the better of me.

ParticipantRe: Hoover/Candy/GIAS Called Me Up…
Had an E-mail from them 11/04/07 asking for engineer details. I decided not to bother, they either sent it out to all in address book, or genuinely thought I was a fan. Therefore I chose to ignore it.
Had another one today, does anyone know what they are planning?

On Monday night 28th May, Channel 4 has a documentary on Brits in China. Do have a look if you can as Vance Miller is one of the 3 featured on this. Looking at the Radio Times he comes across an an entrepeneur. I hope C4 get the balance right.
21:00 Brits Get Rich in China.
Acclaimed directors Alastair Cook and Rob Davis follow the dramatic missions of three British trailblazers as they try to make their fortunes in China: the real dragon’s den.Alex

ParticipantRe: UK Manufacturers
How could I forget. Electrolux (Swedish) have the Tricity Cooker Factory in Spennymore Co Durham.
Yes Hoover are still in Merthyr (Italian) Rangemaster as well as Mercury/Lincat in Lincoln, both wholly British. I forgot those as well. Wonder who else there is?
I suspect the question is regards British owned as well as manufacture.

paperboy wrote:Thanks Kwat, I guessed the majority of whitegoods would be made abroad but there are some producers in the UK but is as if they want to keep it secret, there is a big manufacturer in Yate in Bristol that I stumbled on recently but I cannot find any info any where on it. It seems no one want to own up to be made in Britain, or is it the manufacturers don’t want the public to know several brands are made in the same place just badged and priced differently for the same appliance. I dont know the reason but is sure is difficult to find them.
Any help would be appreciatedThe manufacturer in Yate is the old Parnall Tumble Dryer factory, evolved in the early 70’s into the Creda factory. Taken over by Hotpoint (GDA) in 1986, now owned by Merloni Elettrodomestici SpA of Italy. Take a look at the 3rd link along the top of the following site, under Creda. http://www.theservicecentre.co.uk/Service/aboutus.html
The only one I can think of is Crosslee Tumble dryers in Hipperholme near Halifax. http://www.crosslee.co.uk/english/white … index.html Unless anyone knows different?
I can remember the first foreign machine I looked at was an Imperial in around 1971, (Zanussi, Porcia factory, Italy) and I thought there would never be a market for cheap imported products, there again I used to ride a Francis Barnet Motorbike with a Villiers 2t Engine, and scoffed at all my mates on their Honda 90’s.
Now the Italians are worried as Eastern Europe and China are doing to them what we had done to us.
