One small thing….
As soon as you put your hand in your pocket, you admit liability.

ParticipantRe: Am I haunted?
Had a Vauxhall Astra with silly window & alarm errors.
When I was working for DAR of Falmouth, was on the way down there on a Saturday one December, stopped in a lay-by Just outside Launceston on the A30 for a bacon sarnie. Got back in the car, passenger window wide open. Blamed my Daughter who was in the passenger seat before we stopped.
Closed the window, and carried on, just as we were crossing Bodmin Moor, by the Jamaica inn, window decided to open again, and we could not close it. Typical Bodmin weather, decided to chuck down loads of rain & sleet, and a driving wind from the passenger side.
Phoned the nearest Vauxhall Dealership & they told me it was a recognised fault, and please bring it in at the end of next week for a modified module under warranty. As for today, nothing we can do sir, noboby in the garage being a Saturday, and we need to order the parts.
Got to the A39 turning at Indian Queens, suddenly cured itself, window closed on its own, drove to Falmouth, parked up. Hours later got back to the car, nearside window wide open. Anywhere else would have been nicked, car was only 6 months old. Called the AA who effected a temporary repair.
You can’t beat a good old fashioned winder, at least you only have yourself to blame.

ParticipantRe: Refrigerant Handling
I have accreditation for C&G 2078 Refrigerant Handling. This is a life time thing, but only relates to myself.
Now legislation dictates each INDVIDUAL needs to be registered and prove competance. It is a minefield, and yet another bit of legislation to make it more difficult to manage a business such as ours. I believe in doing my bit to help the planet etc. however, the guidelines are not clear.
That means 2 of my engineers need to have certification in handling refrigerants, and that is without transfer of waste and means of tracking any recovered refrigerant back to the source. In this area there seems to be nowhere local that can provide training etc. In addition it is not clear as to the exact criteria & requirements.
There is also need of a “Premises Code” which I gather is required if your engineers are “outbased” or in the field, (which they all are) and collect/recover less than 200Kg of refrigerant per year. I will investigate this early next week through the environmental agency and if I learn any thing will advise.

Thanks for all your replies. Is there anyone out there who is an agent for Liebherr/Coolectric coz this is the company that giving me the headache.
Thanks.
LindaWe repair Leibherr through ISDA, and in ALL cases we leave the door on site. We are not allowed to transport them, let alone dispose of them.
If the customer complains we refer them to the manufacturer, after all it is their responsibility, and all they are doing is putting the onus onto you the repair agent.
Sometimes you have to be firm with either the maker or end user, neither of which would support you in breaking the law, and they shouldn’t expect you to.

Had a query from Sue Cherry at Servevast. Fishing to find out our skills and capabilities.
Told her £44 plus £20 if system etc.
Managed to get the rate for normal work up from £36 to £40 in the same conversation.

ParticipantRe: British Gas…time to tell all
Had a phone call today on the spares line which I answered. Went like this….
“Hi there, this is British Gas, can I have a part number please for a bit on a Zanussi”
“No, but if you have a credit card and got the model details, I can sell you the bit”
“Oh, I don’t want the part from you, I’m a British Gas Engineer, and need a part number for a job I’m doing. My office has told me I have to get the part number, so they can order me the bit. They suggested I phone you for the number”
“Cheeky lot. Tell whoever in your office, and you aint getting that info from me. I don’t give out part numbers, and most certainly not to Brit Gas. If they want a part, then credit card details will be needed from them, then I can supply the bit”
Strangely they haven’t come back to me.

ParticipantRe: Candy Aquamatic 8 Small Washing Machine
What you will probably find is the drum has “Rotted” off the spider.
These are predominately used by an older generation, (and I’ll say before anyone else, that’s why I remember them). In addition used mainly on cool washes. In time the aluminium spider of the drum shaft corrodes, and collapses.
Zanussi still do a Studio W/Machine, problem is finding someone who will supply.
Best of luck

K.Where the hell is that posting??
I have had a hell of a job gettig on the site lately, timing out etc. So much so, I’ve given up trying of an evening. When I do get in and try in a new window to view posts since last visit, either times out, or I get “Information.. no posts to mach your criteria” If I am successful, and there are more than 52 posts, I get same as above when attempting to open the second page in a new window. therfore I’m missing quite a bit.
Anyway, I digress, looks like I’ve missed something, and my curiosity is getting the better of me.

ParticipantRe: CDA
I’ve chucked them out.
We had 2 calls in old peoples homes on range cookers that needed cooling fans. We ordered the bits, and 2 months later they arrived. When we phoned to book the calls we found that in the meantime another company had been and completed the jobs.
I phoned John Hopwood and left a message, in addition looked out all the calls in our workload awaiting parts, we phoned the customers and told them to phone CDA as we were terminating that day.
We then invoiced them, and got paid for all these calls and washed our hands of them. Funny thing is the cookers both came back, and CDA asked us to attend. The second word finished with off.

County Court Summons in the small claims court.
You can do all this on line and it is painless, but in your case will cost a couple hundred, which will be reclaimable provided you win. Alternatively, a debt collection agency, get them to “buy the debt”, and they will take it on for themselves after their slice.
However, do ensure you have as much information as possible. Invoices, any contract or agreement as well as any copies or notification of jobs passed on etc. There is a risk though that whoever this is has either changed title of business or will deny everything, and leave you a lot of legwork to extract the money. You need to consider if they make a habit of these practices as well, as you will really struggle if that is the case.
As well as that, see if you can find anyone else who may have been in the same position with this company/individual and see if they escalated things. If so, ask a few questions as to if and how they got paid.
Best of luck.

I wonder myself how I find the time. Now to add to my schedule the F1 season has started.
Golf is at a mere 18 holes a week at present, too cold to go at 1st light these last 2 weeks.

ParticipantRe: Expert / Glen Dimplex
I can confirm they are training their engineers, and have neglected to tell us the existing Lec agents. The only way I got to know was getting the nod from someone within their organisation.
The forseeable problems will be when we get what we think is a new call, only to find one of their guys has been and either misdiagnosed, or is unable to complete a system repair.
Must be a Wirral thing, as I remember another company from that area that thought they could do the same, and they forgot to tell us as well.
If this does happen, then I will re-evaluate that account.

However, having dropped some brown smelly material from a great height on it’s agents and the independent trade in general ………Hands up please, from the rumours I hear Candy/Hoover/GIAS want the independents to work for them,multi-skilled of course with CORGI,
K.Taken them 7 years and the loss of Expert to handle their refrigeration to come up with that one.
We have long bitter memories.
