Spot on! Springsteen is simply terrible, I don’t know what all the fuss is about & McCartney is flat.

Can someone put Phil Collins, Rod Stewart & Elton John in the same spaceship as “The Boss” & Macca then blast them off to oblivion.

    Martin.

Whilst not wanting to avail my scope of knowledge surrounding your underwear. I must presume your household also has regular visits from the sock & underpant fairy You know the one that removes old, frayed and non-elasticity garments, and replaces with new.

Re the Dishwasher, you only have yourself to blame in-so-much as allowing others the privilege of the task. When my children were living at home, they used to dump all used crockery on the work-top. When I pointed out we have a dishwasher, I was put in my place by being reminded no matter how & where they place the goods, I rearrange them.

I should be nominated for the Nobel Prize in dishwasher arrangement, apparently I would be clear winner.

If I download a BBC prog from I-Player that is an hour long, takes all of that that hour.

Forget trying to watch anything in HD

Our TV has an I-Player facility, waste of time even on standard non-hd painful to try & watch anything as spends most of the time Buffering. Tried to watch something last night and after over half an hour the elapsed time was just 16 minutes.

A very pragmatic and sensible answer.

Maybe D&G have made a sensible decision.

Looking at most of the brands, they are “Yesterdays” appliances, and are dying on the vine. MFI, Servis etc. Every year there will be fewer & fewer and being a diminishing part of the business, they will self exhaust themselves in any case.

Re: The Internet Is Killing Local Businesses… Really?

Let’s face it we are all guilty of using the net, and probably moan about the loss of decent local stores in the same breath.

Amazon is the biggest case in point. No matter what, they sell it, they gift wrap it, parcel it out, they have a full no questions asked returns policy.

Then you can create wish-lists for your family to pick from, so you can look at theirs to see what they really want, and not second guess something you are not sure about. You can read other consumers reviews & feedback of any product that takes your fancy.

Finally you can use any another retailers web-site and align your selection to your personal Amazon wish list.

If not Amazon, try E-Bay, Play.com all do the same job.

The advantages of the net, no driving into town, struggling to find a parking spot at a cost, being accosted by big-issue sellers, salesman trying to get you to change your energy supplier, fat people with their bellies out, smell of cigarette smoke, listening to other peoples phone conversations and screaming kids.

Be honest everyone, how many people these days trawl the shops for Christmas presents? All ours are done on line.

Grocery shopping the same now, we no longer go to Sainsburys on a Saturday and fall over old people with their tartan shopping trolleys (Why do pensioners shop on a Saturday anyway, and another thing, why do young mothers take their kids to Sainsburys so they can shout at them? Do it at home!)

I do miss decent record stores though, as I used to love a browse and despite downloads, I still buy albums.

I complain at times when we spend an age identifying a part on the phone to some vague customer, who then tells me they can get it cheaper off the net. But it has been that way for some time now, and I’ve learned to live with it. Something called progress.

Suspect the 1134 would be a few (20) years older than 1967, possible typo perhaps?

There again I trust Martin’s memory on these more than mine.

    Oi! I resemble that remark.

How about giving us the model, serial number and colour?

To set you in the right era, the screws that hold the motor to the body, are they Phillips or Pozidrive? (There is a distinct difference) If they are pozi, it is post 1967.

Over to Martin when you come back with the results for the above.

He pointed out the war room on Connect’s forum, and has done it again.

I was asked the other day what that was all about following the posting on Connect.

Trouble is if we delete the post as below, might make him worse.

    Sadly I will miss it.

Still trying to work out where the Bullring might be in Coventry, there is one in Brum and I’ve seen too much of that City over the last 50 years. It was suggested earlier in this thread how we could enjoy shopping in Cov. No soul in the place, thanks to Hermann Goering.

I don’t know, he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. He upset DASA when he stormed off the scene, then couldn’t understand why he was not welcome at a meeting when he was in full flow with the 0800 thing. He was subsequently invited to the service Seminar a bit later, but didn’t show.

I wonder if the avatar image for Whirl 4 winds him up. (Welsh Flag)

He (Ade) is convinced Whirl-4 (Along with Ted & Rudolph) is Ken. I noticed the Taffy flag appeared as an avatar around the time he threw his toys out the pram.

I’m not responsible, but it is the sort of thing I would have done.

Centralised means the use of a hub where the calls are sent out, but all admin and KPI’s are visible and hopefully under control.

Add to the above, one-stop shopping for parts as well.

Sadly for us guys no matter how good we might be, we are very fragmented, and if a customer or client needs up to date information and status, not all of us can readily provide, whereas through a centralised system, it is all there on a screen.

I know about an e-mail from D&G regards centralisation, but nothing in writing to date on where said work might be going.

    I’m away.

I always take the last week Sept & first week October.

It is our 40th Wedding Anniversary that week and Er-Indoors would not be too happy at the thought of a break in Coventry.

I could excite her & promise to tie in with a visit to the Coventry Transport Museum, and it is free.

    Have a good meeting.

Del wrote:The only thing that would make sense is that connect are going to give them a discount on spares or a fixed price deal. It might be time to start pulling together to source spares at the same prices connect are paying.

Well on that very point, I thought they would pay a lot more for parts from Connect, especially for MFI parts. I get mine from Andy Willey, most times he is cheaper than Connect, so I thought it was sheer folly for D&G to go to Connect if they wanted to save money on parts.

Then it dawned upon me, no matter where I source the part, I charge them Connect prices in any case. So I buy a Smeg D/W door seal from Servevast, charge Connect prices. Or a Whirlpool D/W seal from AWS & again charge Connect prices. No matter what and whom supplied the part, D&G paid top whack, and I bet most other agents do the same.

I have had it confirmed it is going to Connect by the way.

    Not happy though.

Re: D&G now in bed with Connect

I suspect the tile of the thread will give a clue as to where this may be going?

Spoke to Mary Seymour, seems like she may have had similar phone calls, as she talked about a reply to me e-mail I’ve sent her on this, I haven’t sent one?

Anyway, I suggested not a good idea as we are agents for a lot of these brands, and we tend to source parts from places cheaper than Connect.

Her reply was that other centres cannot get parts and back-up such as companies like ours, hence the change.

I told her it was sad to see what was the company with the most growth within my business actually diminishing.

I did say though that I anticipate the work will come in through the back-door and could actually cost them more. She gave the impression the bad ones are the ones who have spoilt it for the good ones.

Watch this space now for some “Exciting News” from connect.
