Rapport doesn’t have a free thing any longer, we had to halt that as it was too expensive to maintain frankly but you could ask Sudeep about it as I think he may well have a demo setup somewhere.
But there are a few of the guys that use it and every one that does won’t part with it, I think that kinda says a lot. 😉
K.
Ok, thanks.
Yes, I think once you get started on a particular software product it becomes the backbone of the business and therefore difficult to change without a lot of hassle.

ParticipantHats off to you Ken. It takes quite some effort as I know from experience.
I don’t want to tread on your toes, especially on your own board! I’m happy not to take the thread further if you’d rather.
On the other hand if you’re happy for me to talk then I’ll go into some of what I’ve done and people can either shoot it down or offer encouragement.
In the meantime can I have a go on Rapport? Again, if it’s a commercial risk then I won’t pursue it further.

ParticipantI had considered supporting the brand when some wholesalers started to offer their products a few years ago but despite my initial enthusiasm the reality of having to sell an unknown to our customer base won over.
The manufacturer’s warranty offered is an excellent selling point but I don’t know how they’d go about getting a repair network off the ground, and again, whether customers would have confidence in that.
I also don’t think they got the brand or marketing right….but’s it’s probably a hard slog getting anything of this scale off the ground.

ParticipantOurs doubled at renewal lest month from around £1k per van to over £2k. Same vans, same drivers, one extra year of ncb and one extra year of depreciation. Didn’t even get a renewal quote, there was just a huge chunk of money missing from the bank account. Needless to say I am looking elsewhere.

This may have been where I made an assumption…………..the machine would run on the quick wash setting so I assumed the primary fill solenoid was working OK. Unless it uses an alternative solenoid to the usual fill!

ParticipantThanks both for your advice. I’ll think we’ll try and sit down with both and decide what’s best for us.

ParticipantI don’t want to go into My questions for Euronics would probably be:
i) In relation to what kaibart said, full membership seems to offer access to Euronics suppliers under Euronics terms. Would they still dictate the price at which we sell?
ii) Sales that go through the Euronics website have set labour prices that we’d be bound by. I’m not sure whether this would work for us in having to provide installations at prices much lower than we offer through the main business. Is there any way around this or are the margins on the machines themselves enough to compensate for this?ali_g12
Participantno easy answer to this
I thought as much! We’ll stick to our policy of guidance regarding cleaning washes followed up with a quote for replacement drum or replacement machine when cleaning doesn’t work!
ps. Someone on the screwfix Q&A said they’d changed the formula for Jeyes and it wasn’t what it once was.

ParticipantCall me old, grumpy and cynical among other things and you’d be mostly right but this one looks iffy to me.
Call me young and optimistic, but……… I’m still with Ken!
I see anyone who is trying to package my service up into something they can offer at a markup as part of the current zeitgeist of middlemanship. It occupies the space between genuine businesses with skills and their lack of resources to connect with their customer base. I became quite against any service that was non-directory based ie. wanted to take a cut from our revenue from the work done. The chancellor would certainly be concerned about the inflationary nature of it!!
That said there’s obviously a gap for them as they’re still going. They used to hassle me endlessly with texts and voicemails about customers they had. However, I quickly bundled them into the category of people I didn’t want the business to be associated with and poured more effort into understanding their skillset – internet marketing.

I re-attended today, drained out the sump, took off the pump cover and ran a program for the drain phase. Sure enough it spat out another piece of glass into the tub! Continued to work OK after that. Looks like ‘drain’ means ‘drain’!

ParticipantJust put it up on ebay at £8,500 with more pics so thought I’d update the price here.

Many thanks for the advice. My customer is already looking into a new machine but hopefully they will let me come back in light of this new information.
Even if I don’t get back there I’ll certainly look out for this on future jobs with same symptoms.

ParticipantMy opinion is that there’s a certain amount of of caution needed if you’re working on gas appliances as a non GS engineer. ie. if you’re doing hob ignitions then it’ll have to be the type of hob where you can get the top off it as in my experience there’s a number of manufacturers where this is difficult to do. Most hobs are going to be connected with rigid copper and it’s very risky to start bending it. Ranges are usually a lot simpler being connected with flexi hose and will usually need working on from the back. Although they’re a pain to get into I don’t mind doing ignitions and commutators on most ranges.
I do wish the gas safe people would be more specific with their advice though as I also had to seek clarification from them on this topic.
