    Thanks to both of you.

The original fault as far as I am led to believe was no motor action. Because someone else has had a go at it, I’ve no idea what they’ve been playing with. At least I now have a beautiful wiring diagram to help(?) me!
    Anyone speak Italian?

    Thanks again guys

Re: Strange fault on Indesit washing machine – stumped!

    Andy,

I know it sounds daft and flies in the face of years of experience of fixing washing machines, but I have had several instances of a broken wire at the element giving the initial symptoms that you describe. The first time I went to one of these lovely machines a few years back, I was confronted with the same thing i.e door locks but nothing else. After checking the usual suspects I concluded that it needed a new board. So I ordered one and a new eeprom and duly went back, fitted it and exactly the same. At this point the customer decided that he’d had enough and would scrap it and was more than grateful for me to take it away. This gave me a chance to have a good play with it and eventually was more than staggered and not a little embarrassed to discover that it was nothing more than a broken black(I think) wire at the element. 😳 In my defence, the wire looked intact but the conductor was actually broken inside the crimp. Since then I have come across it a few more times, especially with the early machines. Not enough slack in the cable maybe. I’m not saying that this is your problem but it’s always worth a wiggle of the wires!
    Good luck

    Dave

What is this autotest dongle of which thou speakest?

By the way, have you checkd for broken wires at the heater element?

Re: WD40 sprayed in cooker switch

Sorry to appear pedantic Mr P, but what makes you think the lubricant in WD40 is graphite? I did have my doubts when you mentioned it in your earlier post, but couldn’t be sure. But according to the material safety data sheet at : http://www.dek.com/data/wd-40.pdf
the lubricant in it is mineral oil. Not conductive but nevertheless highly inflammable. I was thinking back to the dim and distant past when we could all fix our own cars, and on a damp and misty day and the thing wouldn’t go, a liberal spraying of the magic fluid all over the distributor cap and HT leads would do the trick. I somehow don’t think a conductive fluid would have the same effect. It’s not a cure all for every situation, but it’s water-dispelling properties should not be under-estimated.

Merry Xmas to one and all,

    Dave

I managed to get one from Bradshaws (spares@bradshaw.co.uk). Thanks to DC. Part no AT39010000 £66.21 inc vat and carriage trade. I’ve got a couple of photos of the sticky old one if you’re interested but I have no idea how to upload them!

Re: Early Indesit W103 PCB fault ??

Check the wires going in to the heater element for broken crimps. I’ve had this a few times and it has turned out to be a broken black wire going to the element.
    Hope this helps,

    Dave

Sorry ken, put it all back together so they can still cook(noisily) as I anticipated that this one may take some time to resolve.

    Re: Planning Permisson

I too have had a visit from the local Planning Dept due to a complaint from an unnamed “neighbour”. The Planning officer was very sympathetic to my cause and just told me to keep a low profile and not give people any ammunition(not that I did anyway). I explained to him that if the local authority provisioned some affordable industrial units in the area then I would be first on the list. However what does stick in my craw is that everyone of my immediate neighbours who I could possibly be causing offence to, has benefitted from repairs at greatly reduced(neighbourly) rates. It really does make you want to chuck it all in sometimes. By the way, I did tell my insurance company who were OK with it, but did increase my premium.
    Yours,
feeling much better to get that off my chest,
    Dave

What about the thermal cut-out in the motor? Do a continuity check through the brushes/armature from the the motor socket. If open circuit then it’s gone.
