    Just for future reference

I fitted two new dampers to this machine and it was running like a little sweety pie when I left.

    Thanks guys. 🙂

    Andy.

    Re: Hotpoint FHP 1000-1200 motor

Well! – I did’nt expect my query to evoke such a response, but thanks gentlemen for all the advice and tips. 🙂

The plug kit is about £3 from CDSL but to be honest me being an idle sod I would probably opt for Jimbo’s solution sounds OK to me. But it might be worth marking the plug for future refence with a felt tip if it will fit both ways.

Incidently, who do you think is the best / cheapest supplier for Qualtex parts?

    Thanks

Thanks Andy, but someone tells me they are £35 +VAT off Masterpart so I might give the Qualtex a whizz.

Thanks anyway – i appreciate that!

    Re: Hotpoint FHP 1000-1200 motor

    Thank you gentlemen

When I realised that this armatures were going to disappear I bought a heap, but sadly they are all gone 😥 😥 (don’t get me started again)

Are the qualtex ones OK? I am a bit wary about non-gen armatures as i have had a lot of hassle in the past with them.

I don’t have an account with masterpart but I did’t know that anyone had stocks of these now, so that sounds OK.

Is Mr trent80 connected with masterpart (he seems to have gone offline)

Sorry – forgot to say, use a solder sucker to remove the solder from the joints and the relay should just lift out. This avoids damaging the tracks with too much heat.

    Brilliant Daro1

if the problem does re-occur pop in a new relay as the fault may be intermittent, especially as there were no dry joints.

    Re: Indesit/Ariston IDC type modules

The way I see it Dave is that we have to get to grips with these machines, seeing that 3 major brand names (and probably 4) use pretty much the same gear.

OK, things are going to change when the machines using the three phase motors and accompanying control modules really start to appear on the independant repair scene but until then there are still plenty of the current merloni machines to repair. With the right knowledge they could still be a nice earner for a while.

Most faults on electronic modules are re-current due to stressed componants or bad design. Once a fault is diagnosed its much easier the next time because the weakness is exposed. Places that repair modules on a regular basis in most cases probably effect a repair very quickly because they know where to look.

On the subject of brushless three phase motors these are without a doubt the future. Since some of the good people on this site pointed me in the right direction I have done quite a bit of research on these. These motors are very simple in design and therefore relativly cheap to make, the coils are fixed and therefore suffer no mechanical stress so will probably be very reliable (unless weakness is designed into the coils).

(There will be no more carbon brush jobs to earn a quick buck so the suicide rate among appliance engineers (sorry Technicians) will escalate).

The clever part is the electronics that are responsible for controlling the current flow through the coils in the correct sequence and IMO is where most of the problems will occur especially the power devices that make up the inverter stage. These may be discrete componants or in the form of a power IC. so be ready to get the soldering iron out.

The inverter stage is driven by a Motor control unit (MCU) which may be a dedicated chip instructed by the main microcontroller or possibly integrated all into one device.

    Happy times ahead 🙂

    Hi Ken

No it uses the shock absorber type dampers PN:499003200 which is why i thought they might be the prob. They could be duff but there is nothing to see as such.

Told the guy I would fit new ones at his request but couldnt guarantee it would solve the problem. But to be honest I don’t like working on this kind of basis.

Re: Hotpoint WF440P washes for 4 hours – no error codes

    Hi

I don’t know about the new machines but on some of the older machines ( 2 – 3 years, is that considered old nowadays!!) eg A1234 I have disconnected the heater with no error code, the machine just carried on washing with no heat. Disconnect the thermistor and an immediate F03 is issued.

Having said that, not many fault codes seem to be implemented on the earlier machines, not on the front panel (flash sequence) anyway. Whether the error is available at the dongle port is another matter.

    Its worth checking anyway

    Regards Andy 🙂

Re: Hotpoint WF440P washes for 4 hours – no error codes

Andy – if its washing for 4 hrs then it can’t be heating (else it would boil). Presumably this has the same f codes as the Ariston evo range?

    If so:-

There is no actual f code that can detect an o/c heater/wiring/module plug, only the output from the relay (f08). have you checked the supply to the heater through to the module, and the heater continuity?

Well, that generated a lot of discussion!

I thought at least Mr Merloni’s boys would be down like a ton of bricks saying what a load of bullocks.

    Maybe its time for a joke…….. 😀

    OK!…… this goat walks into a pub…………Eh…What? you’ve already heard that one…..

Never mind, gotta go anyway someone just phoned with an Ariston…. timer knob keeps going round and round…………s gotta be the module i reckon! 💡
