There has got to be a law against this somewhere. If not now – eventually!

I once went to a house where the washing machine fuse had been by-passed with silver foil. I asked the woman if her and her husband got on 😉 Having run out of fuses I asked if she had a spare appliance I could take the fuse from, and both the sandwich maker and bedroom lamp she offered had silver foil wrapped round the fuse.

The Comet engineers only have about 20 minutes per job! That’s why they’ll whip it upside down, take off the bottom panel and get to the motor in minutes.
A different attitude and different methods are forced on some engineers. It all depends on work load and time pressures. As an independent engineer, it’s far prefferable to do a job “propery”, strip it down (and charge accordingly) – but as an engineer working for a multiple or manufacturer, who is often under so much pressure it should be illegal, things are often very different.

Is that the reason you gave the customer for leaving it like that? “free and easy access” for cleaning? I notice it looks like it’s still connected up ready to run lol

Wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t pay. Sounds like she’s being wreckless in paying Martin all those call outs. According to Martin, “.. Allied Carpets were due to call sometime the next day to fit the flooring, I was to return the day after and fit the machines back in….simple!”
So why didn’t she phone up, apologise, and cancel? Why let him come out knowing the carpets haven’t been fitted? If I was insurance company I wouldn’t pay more than the agreed 2 call outs.

I’m 47 next march! But I still consider myself a boy too. Willie Thorn still considers himself a fully thatched man – but he’s bald as a coot.

Welcome to UKW Matt. I would say just read all the new posts every day and you’ll pick up loads of tips and useful information.
If you do meet yourself coming back, be polite 😉

As Greg mentioned, the water matrix on some makes and models, the salt water tank and ion exchanger all will spill their lot everywhere! Rinse Aid can leak out of the top of some older machines and make a lovely mess around the control panel electronics and switchgear. The tub seals, motor mounting grommets and straps, float switch mountings, module connectors, terminal block mounts, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all find the effects of gravity a little confusing and bits and bobs fall off in all directions!! :rolls:I knew it! My instincts were right then 😉
The Indesit & Hotpoint dishwashers don’t seem to mind though.

All the main components are underneath, and would therefore be on top when turned upside down. You could argue that ingress is more likely while the dishwasher is the right way up? 🙂 The timer etc is sealed separately behind the door.
I’m with you in the feeling that you shouldn’t turn appliances upside down, but I like to work on logic, and am wondering if there’s any logical reason why you shouldn’t, rather than an almost superstitious reason 😉

Thanks for reply Greg. Reasons? Did you just (like I did) have a gut feeling you shouldn’t? Is there any substantiated reason why we shouldn’t? The Comet lads always did, and I started too, never heard of a problem after.

ParticipantRe: Whatever became of the Titan W/m?
Have I missed something? The Titan was presented to us at the Manchester meeting, there was interst shown by some of us, and the impression was that the project was asking for our help and support, but nothings happened since then. Is the project stalled?
