All fixed and working properly and all thanks to the excellent advice from yourself 😀
It was the heater control relay on the circuit board
42pence and 6 quid p&p – 2 days from USA (did’nt want to wait for RS to get them in) ~ definelty cheaper than a new board.
Thanks again 😀 😀

nomadPaul,
Checked all three,
Heater resistance 28ohms (I’ll check this again tomorrow with a mega ohm, just to be sure – forgot to bring it home :rolls: )
Pipework appears clear/clean and the unit fills up ok.
The heater relay on the ciruit board had one overheated solder joint and two very suspect ones. This looks like the culprit, so taking it into work to get our instrument engineer to check it out, probably needs a new relay, rest of the board looks ok.
I see what you mean about the heater, on first inspection it looks like a cartridge type heater but not in the easiest place, I’m sure they could have designed that a bit better – but hey design engineers seldom think about service engineers eh 😉Angler

ParticipantRe: Diplomat Select 920 Top Oven Issue
Now that has confused me 😕 I though the two elements were part of the double (2 stage) grill. Also, I’m sure when I checked, it the inner element not the outer came on when the oven function was selected, I’ll check. It could be that I swapped the connectors over when I was checking it out.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool AKG218 Main Oven not working
Thanks for the info ‘spimps’, I should have checked the switch when I checked the timer relay, it was a busy day 😕 . You are quite right in highlighting the safety side of things. I never check or open things up with the power on and then check continuity/resistances with a meter.

ParticipantRe: Belling Noisey Fan
The label that the info on it (located on the top oven door edge), is virtually illegible, the info I can get off it is:-
Belling
Model 590 BR(or N)
Volts 230v
Serial No. 99 00004
Power 4.252kW 4.630kWHope this is enough!

ParticipantRe: Indesit W103 Bearing replacement
Guy’s, the Model number is correct – W103UK BG.
I’ve only had the rear panel off to check the play in the bearings and can’t remember whether it had a barrel calmp or not. I hav’nt looked at in depth since trying to find out how to fix it!, but checking out 4indesit.co.uk they quote £119.25 for a Plastic Tank – close to your estimate of £106 iadom.
Looks like we bought a load of *$&* that needs scrapping 😥
We bought it from a discount store 2-3 yrs ago, it was cheap but obviously you get what you pay for 😕
I think I now know what to get the missus for xmas…only joking she’d kill me!Any recommendations for a replacement, build quality vs spares cost/availability vs initial cost or good links to reviews would be appreciated 🙂
Finaly a big thank you to the moderators and uk Whitegoods.co.uk.
It’s refreshing to find a site/people that are willing to impart their hard earned knowledge to others for free !!

Thanks for the reply Martin.
The machine is only two years old, so hopefully the shaft will be ok, I’ll find out when I get the thing apart and I can check the shaft. I think the reason for the bearing failure was it’s early use, I kept telling the missus not to overload it. Now she knows !!
Question
Best place for bearings/bits through yourselves or from 4Indesit.co.uk ?
I’m more than happy to use yourselves as a bit of thanks for the information.Roger
