Re: Zanussi ZKG7125 washer / dryer – reset electronics?

OK, The unit started to work intermittently yesterday, but the electronics seem to be temperamental – possibly due to condensation. For example it was only 5 or 6 seconds after turning the selector dial that the display lighting and start button light would come on. Usually that would happen immediately. In any case once it was working it completed a full wash cycle.

Today it stopped working again. Hence I think it is a problem of condensation caused by being in a fairly warm cupboard that contained some damp clothes. After the plumber had been I think the temperature reduced in the cupboard and therefore the damp clothing and warm air may have caused the problem. If anyone knows a good way to deal with this I’d appreciate the advice?

Re: Zanussi – drive belt placement on pulley

I took the drive belt off again so I could make sure the pulley is on properly. I hammered it until it was against the thread. Without putting the bolt in there is a tiny bit of play in the drum pulley – so if I grab the pulley at either side and push and pull slightly it does move a little. I don’t know if that is the way it is meant to be without the bolt being tightened.

Maybe it is a consequence of hammering the drum through the basin when I took it apart, but the end of the shaft looks fine. I don’t see the point in hitting the pulley any more given that it is already flush against the thread.

I checked the bearing which is flush against the bearing housing and when rotated it rotates evenly so I don’t think the bearings are the issue.

Hmmm, I remember checking it was on flush and then tightening it and using loctite on it. I just done a test wash and it worked fine. It was on a 1600 spin, and sounded more like my computer ticking away compared to how it was before. I could take it apart again and make sure, but I double checked everything when putting it back together, hence me starting so many threads on here.

I will find out I suppose. I made sure the bearings were flush against the bearing housing as they should have been – I’m not sure what more I could have done. In any case if it all goes to pot I enjoyed doing the job anyway. I’ll let you know. I’m sure you’ll be on the edge of your seats.

Re: Zanussi – drive belt placement on pulley

I was talking about the drum pulley. I just realised you can’t move the belt to the middle of the pulley as if it is near the edge of the motor pulley it always comes back towards the edge of the drum pulley (I am not mechanically minded). I am going to leave it on the same part of the motor pulley as it was before I worked on it. The fact the drum pulley is not even all the way around seems to play games with your eyes when looking at it going round. Thank ‘ee kindly.

Thanks. Managed to get it back in. Tricky little thing.

    Re: Spray painting white goods

OK, those are good points. After I posted this last night I seen a photo of a job that had gone wrong when someone tried to spray paint their fridge silver so it looks fairly difficult. I think you need to polish after you spray paint and even then I have not seen any good before and after photos.

I might try t-cut or some other paint enhancer to see if that does the trick.

I thought there was a catch to a forum for amateurs. Anything to cheer the mods up.

Why do people on this forum want to make me cry. I’ll try the big bolt method and then I don’t know what.

Yep, it doesn’t look too pretty, but as long as I can get the pulley back on and I don’t damage the threads then I’m hoping it’ll be OK.

Are you suggesting another way of doing it? I am trying to at least get the drum / spider from this tub, which might be OK. I have to get it out some how.

Re: Zanussi FJDR bearing change – removing pulley

Great, so I have possibly screwed the job up without knowing it. Oh well, I am an amateur I suppose. It has two tiny score marks on the upper edge of the brass bit. I might just spend a tenner for the bearing kit and see what happens. I guess I enjoyed taking it apart, and I feel like completing it. The spider is £100 though.

Re: Zanussi FJDR bearing change – removing pulley

Thanks, I was sure it was a bearing – but I was wrong. I’m still considering buying another crosspiece as the replacement is expensive for this model. Is a wire brush the best thing to clean all that build up on the back of the cross piece and drum, or is there some kind of limescale removal type liquid I should get to do it?
