    Re: Old Creda needs replacing

    HI ,

Hate to spoil the party, but i’d check that those zan machines don’t have the sealed tubs fitted. If they do then any fault in the drum or tub assy will almost certainly result in the machine being scrapped even if it is only in it’s 2nd year.

It is not at all uncommon for the bearings to fail in the 2nd and 3rd years, this makes it a potentially expensive purchase. Sealed tubs are not at all uncommon now , but i would have serious reservations about buying any machine with such a design shortcoming.

    Hi Dutch,

I’d go with ken on this one, i’ve worked with machines from ISE’s manufacturer for 20 years now, they realy are tops , i have the washing machine , dishwasher and tumble drier, none of them are less than 10 years old, they all look like new, and more importantly perform just as well as they did when they were new.

Hi Hilda, you will have to determine whether there is something in between the drum and the tub, one of the most common culprits is the wires from bras geting lost in machine. if you think this is possible then you may manage to retrieve this through one of the holes in the drum (if one end happens to be sticking through) or through the heater apperture.

BUT PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE APPLIANCE IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

The other possibillity is that the bearings have failed, this is not entirely uncommon and is fairly serious, if you are lucky the drum shaft may not need replacing with a resulting cost in the £100 region, and maybe £50 more if the drum shaft req replacing also.

I hope this helps a little, if i had a little more detail about noise i could possibly have given you a bit more info.

Re: LG TDC70040E wrong capacitor start fitted?

Fitted lots of caps to these , (only fault we get on them really) is appliance under warranty yet ? most of these come with 2yr guarantee from the manufacturer.

Fitting a cap so much over spec wld cause motor to overheat pretty quickly , did you leave machine for good couple of hours to cool down? It may have self resetting thermal cut out. if not new motor and correct cap reqd.

The one upside is that it isn’t too big a job to replace the motor, not sure about price but in today’s market this is a pretty good tumble dryer and probably worth fixing .

Would have to say that i’d be looking for some redress from whoever did botched repair !

Hi Garry , just a wee bit to add to the above, i just sold my 18 year old Asko washer to someone who needed a quality machine a couple of months ago and couldn’t wait till ISE 10 came into stock.

I am now running a 10 year old Asko as my new machine , it runs like a watch and don’t expect to have to touch it for years , this despite doing around 3 loads per day.

With regard to the tumble dryers my Asko dryer produces no condensation at all on the kitchen door glass , however my previous Philco condenser dryer from day one had the door running with water no matter what the outside temperature .

The dishwashers are just about bulletproof too, the weight of these is comparable to some washers, and not because they have a block of concrete bolted to them . it’s all solid steel .

Hope this gives some reassurance on the quality and durabillity of the ISE 10 range of appliances , one thing you can’t get from the pictures is just how tactile these appliances are and the great feeling of quality you ged every time you use the machines.

    Hi Martin

LE indicates fault in the motor, but it can also be caused by a fault in the control module. It is very difficult to acertain where the fault lies but educated guess might be the motor . As to the mods for vibration i’d say they are not worth pursuing as they make little or no difference.

Yip did hundreds, very sucessfull, usually though that motor has the magnet pushed on to the shaft and has to be pulled off with the back bearing. “caw conny” though it easily brocken.

You didn’t say what make it was , but i am the very pissed off owner of a potterton puma which is now on it’s third replacement gas valve for just the symptoms you describe above. The latest failure just 6 weeks ago, the price of the part varied between £385 and £98 . great thing the internet !

Hi , can’t say about Miele , but i am running Asko appliances (the manufacturer of ISE 10 range) and have workd on them for 20yrs . The usability and quality of these machines just cannot be overstated, and Ken is right about the spares and servicing , both are on a par with many of the so called budget makes with regards to costs.

Only way ahead that i can see is to somehow include the whole life enviormental impact of the machine on the enviormental rating label. Maybe divide the estimated energy cost of production and the enviormental impact of dispossal by the number of years it is estimated to last. that would destroy more than a few A ratings . And with the move to sealed tubs by ever more manufacturers theyre not going to look very durable or enviormentally friendly for long .

    Re: AEG – OK?

HI , we have had at least double the number of breakdowns on the British sourced AEG ovens compared to the German built ones, i thnk the German built versions still say “made in Germany” in the corner of the facia panels. in particular the oven thermostats and elements are much more prone to failure. Hope this helps a wee bit.

    Re: Recommendations please – Miele/Siemens/Bosch?

Easy way to cure your leak for now is to disconnect the wirring from the dryer solenoid on the water valve. Your machine uses the dryer valve to do a wee prefill, but will be more than fine without it. get you by untill ise 10 arrives.
