Hi Ron, yes i’ve changed a motor for this , was a bugger to diagnose as it was intermittant . I dismantled the motor for a looksee , looked as though the rotor hadn’t been driven on to the shaft hard enough , meant to show it to kenny . will drop it into him this week .

Could be something in this, wev’e come accross two microwaves recently under guarantee for which no spares were available, other than the turntable and roller. And not a tesco or asda special, both were premium manufacturers .

IMHO , PUSH THE BOAT OUT AND GO FOR THE ISE 10 , FOR A COUPLE OF HUNDRED QUID MORE YOU ARE GETTING A GUARANTEED LIFESPAN OF AT LEAST 10 YEARS , AND PROBABLY MUCH MORE . HAVE A LOOK.

Hi , what Iwould do is buy an ISE 10 washer , it has an outer door which covers the porthole and looks very smart .

But the real good news is that it comes with a full 10 year warranty , it also does a cotton wash in just over an hour , this is as much as half the time taken by many of the current range of washers .

    Re: W3922 vs ISE10

Hi , just back from holiday , i’ve spent the last hour tee heeing , lot of laughs in this thread . On topic i’ve sold and installed more than 10 ISE10 autos , feedback has been nothing short of amazing , oldest one now 8 months old , none had faults . I have contacted around half of the customers in the last few months , all love the machines , what came in for special praise was . ease of use , speed of wash , how quiet and how dry the clothes felt .

The end of the thread nostalga was very apt too , first call after holiday was to an AEG 802T , 26 Years old and in imaculate condition . It is so sad to see what AEG (electrolux) are peddling now , the design and construction of the 802T are just breathtaking , the quality of materials used show that cost was never allowed to compromise the designers vision . A pump replacement and the old girl was as good as new , the huge induction motor still purred the way it did when it was new , the whole machine was almost silent on full spin with a load .

There is a but , though , the above 802T cost around £450 when it was new, probably twice the price of its hoover hotpoint competitors, but it’s proved more than a .
bargain buy , the current crop of tat struggles to get to 26 months lifespan .

The above is not a lot different from the current argument for buying an ISE10 .

Re: One piece welded tub seized solid!

Hi, sorry to have to blow another hole in the sinking ship called “sealed tubs” , i have changed about 20 0f the Electrolux group sealed tubs in the last year.

My observations are that the 1200 has a much higher failure rate than the 1000 , all of the machines were less than 1 year old , save 1 which was 3 weeks over the year . Half the machines were only washing for 1 or 2 people, many elderly , doing only 3 or 4 washes per week ( bang goes the theory of washing for 5 , over many years ) .

We dismantled one of the units which came in damaged , the quality of the internal componnents are of very poor quality , it had a very lightweight drum spider , and a very thin shaft , slotted through a pair of 6204 bearings . So horrified was i at the fragility of the parts i took it into ken for a look see , a bit of a laugh was had .

The consensus of opinion was that it was a real cheap bit of kit , then we started thinking how could Zanussi , who thought a 1000 spin washer required 6207 and 6206 bearings only a few years ago produce the above . They just seem to have got their timing a wee bit wrong , as they seem to be struggling to last the year ! probably not in the plan !

Yip,you’ve hit the nail on the head now Ken , people forget that the machines made in the 80’s and 90’s which lasted 12 to 15 years cost £300-£400 , so to get that quality and longevity now you just have to be talking close to the £800 mark . You just can’t build a good quality washing machine for the price of a vaccum cleaner.

Re: Miele: what is difference in 1xxx series vs 4xxx series?

Have a look at ISE 10 , got all the quality and reliability of the Miele , but with a full 10 year guarantee . as an added bonus it does most of the cycles in half the time .

And if that weren’t enough, spares are realistically priced and the labour charges should be as well , 10 years down the road when it’s out of warranty ! It works out at £1.60 a week if it only lasts the 10 years , but these machines are designed to last about 20 .

    Hi Madrat

I have just been to one of the electrolux sealed tub machines , 6 days out of its first year guarantee , bearings gone big time , estimated repair gives very little change from £200 .

The above shows the state of the whitegoods market in the UK, dominated by a few manufacturers producing cheaply built machines which after a very short time require a repair almost equal to the cost of the appliance, what a waste of resourses , and money .

    Hi Lizzie

A very common fault with these modules is the large resistor going open circuit , you may need to get a competent person to check this for you, if it is faulty it is possible to replace the faulty resistor . hope this helps .

    Madrat

Fairly easy to check, most machines are constructed like an easter egg, in that they have two halfs which were untill recently screwed / bolted together . If the machine is laid on it’s back and you look up the bottom you will be able to see the joint in the tub , if it is sealed you will not see any bolts round the “easter egg” joint , ( discount the bolts holding the motor in place though) .

It’s maybe going off at a bit of a tangent but on checking your original posting i’d say it maybe a wee bit unrealistic to expect decent build quality in a washing machine for the same price as a dyson cleaner , which is predominantly made of plastic with no real engineering bits inside. But maybe thats just the way of the world just now .
