I agree 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. The only way forward as I see it is for us all to communicate on the same level. We all know the problems are there, we all have to address those problems together. My example was merely a hypothetical situation, there is a future for everyone that wants it I believe, there is a place for agent and WP alike, if we all work together and not against each other.

I’ll also endorse what Ken has already said, and something I have been banging on about for ages all over the site, and it’s slowly happening, we are seeing various national companies seeing this site as an excellent oppurtunity for a high level of communication to happen, which has never before been possible, or even discouraged by some.

So, let’s talk, it is human nature after all, even if the accents vary, we all speak the same language, and in the main I believe our aims are the same ultimately. 😀

    Re: Who needs whom ?

A good question, who needs whom.

For arguments sake lets say that a WP costs this service industry £8 for every call they handle.

Remove the WP from the equasion of say 1000 service calls per year passed to one agent, multiply that by the number of WP’s that agent works for, add up what the cost saved would be. Not an unsubstantial figure, which could be used for training, re-investment, keeping engineers at a salary or income level they deserve, all of which are badly needed to sustain this industry at any sort of proffesional level.

Sadly, the monies available cannot support this level of “creaming off the top” for very much longer, in fact it hasn’t been able to support it for a very long time, just juggling the figures, save a bit here, save a bit there has been the norm.

Ask yourself, could I handle the extra admin, can I create the invoices etc ? The answer is yes, in most cases you may already unwittingly be doing it as the level of work the WP’s do has diminished and much of it has been passed back to us, and why is this ? Because even they can’t afford the staff to handle it.

Who needs whom ? The dog starts to wag it’s own tail again 😀

Appology not accepted as there is no appology required.

I won’t harp on about this but the next time I want to put the DASA (ssshhhhh) logo on one of my vans, I will put the request in writing via my solicitor and wait for a ten page reply in 6 months time.

There is a follow up to this on page 5 of the Dec/Jan issue of the Gas Installer magazine. It seems others have had the same problems getting non gas experienced people on an ACS course, or have Corgi read this thread ?

When I get more time I’ll type it out for those of you who don’t recieve the magazine.

    Dave.

❗ Edited. In fact it’s on the Corgi site, I’m gonna mail them and ask if I can reproduce it on this site, there is a new list of requirements and criteria on there.

Sadly no, perhaps a refusal to carry out recalls unless further payment is guaranteed where the fault does not lie with the workmanship will raise some eyebrows (contract withstanding of course 😉 )

kwatt wrote:Charge work or work at full chargeable rates, yes I agree but that’s a whole different ball game.

Yes I agree, I was just using it as a comparison, the difference between being in control of the day to day management and costings involved, and being told “This is how much we will pay you, take it or leave it.”

bonzaco wrote:Should we seek another payment for labour

An interesting point, and one I was discussing just last night with someone. I think it depends on the contract and the rates for that contract.

For instance, if you carry out a chargeable call and offer the customer a 12 month warranty on the whole repair and the part fitted fails within that 12 months, you would not try and gain another call charge from that customer, you could only try and return the faulty part to you’re supplier for credit or replacement. This is an inevitable factor of this industry, so you build the recalls and part losses in to you’re normal chargeable call rate and profit margin on those spares. No big problem there.

If though, you are getting a bare minimum rate for a contract, and little or no mark up on spares, and the spare part which fails is supplied by the owner of the contract or they are the manufacturer, then in my opinion you should not be expected to return and fit a replacement part without some sort of recompense. It is, as you say outside of you’re control and not down to poor workmanship.

Basically if higher rates were allowed for the contract, and a no hassle return process for the faulty part, the costs of recalls etc could be built in to that rate, then this topic would never raise itself in the first place.

I know and it must be a difficult position to be in. One I’m glad I’m out of to be honest, and there is no easy solution that I can see on the horizon either. It’s a case of “better the devil you know” or “better the devil you know”. JT and RF both have a reputation that does not bode well with many to say the least, so which one do you opt for ?

I honestly don’t know which way I would turn either, faced with the same decision. Terrible state of affairs indeed. 😡

Nice to see JT thinking of the members for once, or is he ?

Appologies also if anyone took offence to my implications of brainwashing and hypnotherapy. It was not aimed at anyone in particular and was certainly not meant as a personal insult.

Just having had JT on the phone to me with threats and other stuff over the last few months, he is all too willing to try and turn member against member. He actaully asked me once to encourage other members to get their KPI’s up and he would guarantee me more money, I didn’t let him tell me how he planned to do that.

Take from that what you will, unless he has changed attitude very suddenly, there is always a hidden agenda in JT’s actions in my opinion.

It amazes me sometimes where this information comes from 😕

    Bosch supplying Dimplex spares 😯

Glen Dimplex are in their own right a major holder of brands including Belling, Stoves, Goblin, Aquavac, Cygnet, New World, Unidaire and loads more.

Anyway that’s beside the point, Dimplex contact details are here:

Not at all, you did not appear ungrateful 😀

That’s the control pcb price you have there, the price I gave was the power pcb, there are two and either could be at fault.

Time to buy a new tumble drier. 😉

That’s because I am unable to offer too much technical guidance, risk of personal liabilty if you injure yourself and that sort of thing.

New PCB required then I guess 😥
New tumble drier would be more ecomocal IMO, given the age and the part is £106.39 inc VAT (power module).

Yes Bonzaco is correct, the part number is now 97921159. It’s an Ametec motor now, replacing the original.

    Hi Albert.

If I recall the microswitch should be o/c until the circulation of water activates it, the pressure pushes a diaghram behind the switch.

If that part is faulty the a new heater unit is required, part number 1801924.

    Hope that helps.
