Chris, I phoned Aga (who now own the old Leisure Rangemaster name).

The fan motor is quite a bit cheaper from them, if you phone them on 0870 7895106 they should be able to supply you at trade price, if not let me know, I can order it for you.

I can’t help with the Atag one unfortunately, but it would not be unreasonable to assume it is the same motor, if you order the Leisure one you can check then I guess.

BTW Connect have zero stock of the motor, Aga have, and they are pretty speedy generally.

Thanks both, it’s actually under extended-warranty. The insurer in question usually questions multiple parts fit, but they will get a fax today telling them a triple call will cost them more than the parts so I’ll gain authority to fit both. 😀

Sorry I forgot to mention in relation to this thread.

GDA/Merloni no longer have ANY technical support, that came straight from an email I sent them

    😥

This would be the technical information purchased by GDA when they were doing the Coverplan work.

The information is on the Electrolux “TESS” disk, which is available at a cost, what that cost is I don’t know. Perhaps someone knows the answer to that question. I know that Connect have a copy due to their involvement in Coverplan, but are unable to fax information to agents due to copyright laws.

Most of the information though is on the standard Electrolux “TDS Offline” DVD, which covers all spares, most wiring diagrams and service manuals. These are available from Distriparts, Connect or Washvac.

If that is the case, how glad I am that it is Care 4, one of the only WP’s to ask us what we think, rather than the “This is what you will do, and this is how much we will pay you” attitude.

Faxed this morning, I will get any details up here as soon as I recieve them. I also recieved a reply from Chris Hayter as I asked the question of DASA as well. The details of a company he gave me are:

    GMC-Instruments ( UK ) Ltd
    Priest House
    Priest Street
    Cradley Heath
    BIRMINGHAM B64 6JN

I’ll wait for the Devondale reply and play them off against each other, see what we can come up with 😉

No, that is not on our proposal form. Hmmmmm, do we start a thread on the best insurers, I know we had one on the mailing list, could be handy.

I’ll start one anyway, see what happens 😉

There wasn’t one ! Most manufacturers want them both, understandably I suppose, at least the one concerned is making an effort to stop the price drop rot setting in any deeper by keeping their prices stable for now.

Extract from a Government site, outlining the basics involved:

    Mobile phone ban for drivers

Driving while using a hand-held mobile phone will be a specific offence from 1 December 2003. Offenders will be subject to a £30 fine, which can be increased to a maximum fine of £1,000 if the matter goes to court.

Legislation is planned to make it an endorseable offence. Drivers will then get three points on their licence each time they are caught holding a phone.

Research shows that if people drive and use a mobile phone they are four times more likely to have an accident. Hands-free calls are also distracting and drivers should be aware that they still risk prosecution for failing to have proper control of their vehicle, for careless or even reckless driving if use of a phone affects their driving in this way.

Road Safety Minister David Jamieson said:

“Driving whilst using a mobile phone is dangerous. We are all too familiar with the sight of people driving along while holding and talking on their mobile phones. Any driver will be distracted by a phone call or text message. It affects the ability to concentrate and anticipate the road ahead, putting the driver and other road users at risk.

“Our decision to introduce this new offence will make the roads safer for us all. Missing a call won’t kill you – an accident quite possibly could.”

In a recent consultation exercise 88 per cent of respondents were broadly in favour of the introduction of a new offence.

It looks as though even proffesionally installed kits will be made illegal while driving eventually, as JP says, this will have a serious impact on contacting field engineers. 🙁

I suppose a temporary solution is to send a text message to the engineer asking they contact you as soon as it is safe to do so, ie at the next customers house, which could be some distance from the previous call, not good if the previous customer has a problem or you wanted to slot another call in while in the area.

Let me just say that this policy is just de-valuing the whole industry.

Not only are low priced appliances poor value for money everall, they do not give manufacturers enough margin to allow more for their servicing budget, retailers (even the bigger one’s) are struggling, hence the need to sell extended warranties. This brings in the competition among those who sell them, low priced policies don’t allow the insurers enough margin to pay for service at a realistic price.

It also cuts out the need for customers to pay for chargeable work as they already have insurance.

The point that appliances go wrong less frequently is in fact innacurate, they are overall becoming more reliable believe it or not, it is just that people replace them more often due to the low price of replacement opposed to the cost of the repair.

I’m not going to go on, it’s all been said before.

    Dave.
