    Re: Insulation Tester

lol 😆 fluke or megger!!! everytime!

your £80 quid ones dont comply with uk regs check the ce markings nor do most of them come with fused leads (uk regs)

nor do they have auto discharge and most decent ones now are multi units with ohms as well

i have worked on a lot of sites with inspectors who will not allow readings from anything but fluke or megger (or equivelent) and must be calibrated with the correct leads!

you can buy a decent megger (second hand from ebay for £80) infact i have a couple and fluke multimeters if you want them?

i no longer use them as i have 2 17th edition units! will post them to you if you need them

    Re: Insulation Tester

the difference is the values you get on the screen! and how accurate they are! ie the £80 one will be so inaccurate and have less features than the £300 one

go with a fluke every time or megger if you want decent IR test results, the same is said with multimeters.

in saying all that if its just for blatting a 2.5mm or 1.5mm 3 core on short cable runs it should be ok!

    hope this helps

    Re: HOMESERVE APPLIANCES

Anyway the point of this thread was to highlight the fact the insurance industry has high lighted the problem and are taking it seriously, and I personally think what ever their motifs its got to be good news for all the white goods repairs out their

    Re: HOMESERVE APPLIANCES

Actually the cover they provide is better than the men with the little blue vans! For a start! They also don’t have any franchises setup yet as everyone told them to do one! And word has it from inside it wont be going ahead!

So let’s look at the facts white goods engineer gets called out to tumble dryer £105 as has been pointed out!
Agent receives £95 for call out but provides materials up to £10 anymore than that is authorised by the insurer and that includes first hour on site!
Subsequent time on site paid at an hourly rate!!!!!

Another large insurance company you get £45 for a call!! And that’s it! Even if your on site for 3 hours doing a drum change!!!!

I know who’s calls I would rather be doing!

    Re: HOMESERVE APPLIANCES

it sure will!! and guess what they are getting away with it, the figures produced have shown clearly a huge rise in their policy’s being taken for white goods and repairs on a pay to use service.

this is now the main thrust of all insurers now that the waste issue has raised in the media and believe it or not it is working! with their media campaigns and direct marketing to customers.

    Re: Homeserve Franchises?

I can now reveal the details of the franchise that we as electrical contractors where offered

£27000 up front fee for 5yrs renewable with no charge after the 5yrs (as long as you perform to the high standard they demand)
    £7500 for additional territories
5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of gross a year paid back to Homeserve
We pay for the lease of vans and livery
We are no longer aloud to do our own domestic work but can do our commercial work????
Homeserve book our calls and have direct control of our sparks
We make nothing on going to do quotes for them
Can cover 200 miles for call £95+vat

All sounds good if you’re a Muppet!!! You can understand why we told them to ram it! I believe it was as bad a deal for the gas boys and plumbers and roofers! So what about domestic appliance engineers? I will find out!!
