Agree with Ken,(again!). Refrigeration is easy once you understand how they work, what you need to do is go out with a fridge engineer for a couple of days, it will give you a great leg up.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Wow! This topic has diversed a bit, and some of the posts have got personal which is quite laughable and serious as well. This to me has come about simply (in my mind) because the true independants on here that have posted are not happy that a larger “national ” company have used underhand tactics, untrue advertising and membership of a certain Trade Body, (that was set up to support independant engineers), to gain unfair advantage in their quest to get a larger share of the independant repair work, in direct competition to us. That is what has been questioned and so far un answered by those that can answer, one member on here has requested that he could attend that trade bodies meeting and was declined and that has made the situation worse, one of the trade bodies member council member has also come on here a accused me of a different agenda and also didnt answer the questions which has also fanned the flames! No wonder some of us are a bit cheesed off.
I think it looks bad in my opinion and then its got personal which is never the way forward but you have to defend yourself.
I honestly couldnt understand what was wrong with Ade’s original problems that he brought to the members on heres attention, he was letting us all know of the threat.I think this thread is dead now unless some one from DASA does want to reply to the concerns here. I for one will never join DASA now as they have come out very badly in thios and i thank Ade for bringing it to my attention. Luckily it dosnt seem to be affecting me so far down here , but maybe this will help in the future.
Could someone at the WTA please send me my renewal membership please as it is definatly the trade body to be a member of.

I don’t earn enough money to take all of your issues with regards to 0800 repair nor am I qualified to defend marketing /advertising etc etc. Wouldn’t want to become the punch bag. What I will say is this. I went to a ukw Meeting about 5 years ago. It wasn’t great loads of attacking work providers and didn’t take much away from it. Not saying it’s the case now 5 years is a long time to progress.
As I have said previously. Been in the trade a long time. I used to spend more per year in the yellow pages then I paid for my franchise. Got sick of chasing money and Got burnt by gbdar and servis uk. The franchise suited my needs at the time of signing in the dotted line. When my 5 years are up I would have saved sh1t loads on advertising.
I get why this thread is here and what your views are. And for what it’s worth I respect the points made. I don’t agree with all the posts but I understand the passion shown.
Ukw serves a purpose. Tbh it’s were I heard first about servis going bust owing me £7000.
But I will reserve the right to comment with passion about what I believe is right or wrong. Thanks for the invite but as I Said I wouldn’t want it to turn into a full blown row. Although I may well be at the next dasa meet.
Mike, great post, much respect to you, its as fair as fair can be. I dont think anyone was personally attacking you, but its right that you should have your say from your side, that is what Forums are for.

To see a post by Dr Dill, who has a different agenda, and thinks from another medium that I may owe him an apology for defending a prominent member of UKW, and he therefore subsequently seems to be trying to coerce me into this debate; does not surprise me in the least.I will say no more on this subject.

Alex, i dont have a different agenda at all, i think you do now that you are a member of the DASA Council though, and your comment is bordering on getting personal which i will ignore, lets get this straight, this thread is not about me or you or any one individual, its about a “UK wide” competitor using false advertising to gain an edge over us smaller companies, this is unfair and normally not a lot we can do about it, except the fact that this competitor is using DASA as a marketing tool which is something that can be challanged, and as yet we independants have seen no action from DASA to explain what is being done, now your a council member and that is why i have asked for your input but it seems like the other DASA council member you are not doing so, WHY?
I have a copy of the DASA membership brochure Alex, perhaps you and your fellow council members should read it again.Nigel

Mike Day, i am not attacking you at all, i am only concerned with the underhand tactics employed in 0800repair’s advertising and their use of DASA membership to promote their business.
On a seperate note i am concerned about some of the other statements they make also, which they are in my opinion using to compete against myself for appliance repair calls.DrDill
ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Cut and pasted from 0800repair’s site:-
Are you a member of a trade association or guild?
Yes we are members of DASA — the Domestic Appliance Service AssociationHow do you know that your franchisees are reliable?
Unlike many firms in the appliance industry, all our franchisees work for us direct. Of the numerous applications that we receive, we only interview about a third of applicants, and offer franchises to about a third of people we interview. In other words we reject over 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of applicants, and only take those who are: skilled in the sort of work we take on; who are polite and well presented; who are friendly and understand the importance of customer service.
How long have you been established?
We can trace our roots back to the 1990’s when the original Pacifica Group appliance Repair Company was established, 0800Repair is now the trading name for our repair business and currently undertakes over 100,000 repairs per year for domestic customersWhat areas do you cover?
We cover the whole of the UK, currently our franchisees are in designated areas throughout the UK but don’t worry if we haven’t got an 0800Repair franchisee in your area then we will send out one of our approved subcontractors who has been vetted to provide you with an excellent level of service. The above statements do not state anywhere that the engineer you get might NOT be a DASA member.
And to scare you more:-What happens to all the applicants who apply for a position with you but are rejected?
Good question. There are many who have applied for a position with us, but who have not met our demanding standards. They might be out there somewhere, beware!Which gives the impression that if you use anyone not from 0800repair who is a DASA member, CRB checked etc then beware!! So to me they are using the DASA link to impress the customer.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
On their website they make many statements that also rely on a play of words, which is purely designed to gain the confidence, if you was a member of the public living in my neck of the woods Cornwall and are using the Internet to find a repairer, then on visiting 0800repair’s site you would drawer the conclusion that the engineer that would call would be a member of dasa and would be a well established business of over 20 years. This is misleading to the customer and that is what i have a problem with.

mikeday0800 wrote:So what’s wrong with that statment. 0800 repair are members of dasa. So that is a true and correct statement. AGAIN I must ask!! WERE does it state that ALL engineers are members of dasa??
I really think you need to reread the previous posts from about 10 pages back, i CANT understand how you dont see a problem

0800repair state that they are memebers of DASA, this is the problem!

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Okay, the issue raised by ade and others is the fact that an organisation is using the DASA membership as a tool to promote themselves and it isnt clear on weather they are right to do this, i dont see why a DASA council member can not clarify this on here, this is the single biggest audience of our trade and in this time of cutting our waste and carbon footprint is the perfect medium of comunication.

Alex wrote:Like Andy, I’m not out to tear them to shreds, and to date I don’t think I’ve given that impression. They will have their customers, I will still have mine being the ones I value.
I have seen others in this business come & go, and I’m still here! Customers vote with their feet, if they don’t like it they tend to come back.
I’m not a fan of their web-site, and perhaps there is a secret agenda with this lot, and to be honest I don’t particularly care as I do not see them as a threat.
However I am concerned they may be promoting their trade association membership yet may not be FULLY fledged members. I don’t know the nature of the DASA full membership & associate membership system, but something tells me they have not got it right in the way they suggest they are members. Unless of course part of the package is they insist all repairers are DASA members and approved. That would be fun and maybe sort some wheat from the chaff.
Alex
Where is Alex gone, many pages ago he was very concerned about this issue, and as a DASA council member i am looking forward to what he has found out and any conclusions to this Hot topic.

Well i hope some one does advise him to say something, because how its looking now i wouldnt want to part with my hard earned to be a member and i can see many others pausing for thought when membership renewal comes up. Its turned in to a very bad sitiuation that could have been handled a lot better.
Its all very well you mikeday0800 saying the website is being changed, but with all due respect you are not a member of the DASA Council.

mikeday0800 wrote:Again as I posted previously the website is having some changes made to it as we post. Also my details and all the franchises details are on the dasa website. Mine is the Harlow one. Or am I missing something here ??
Yes you are missing something, the point that has been raised by Ade and Whirl4, that something is being advertised that isnt true.
