Participantno management is perfect but thats the problem there sometimes to stuck in their own way to see it.
when we used to have engineer meetings they used to get heated but it seems the management was like ostriches stinking their heads in the sand.
It used to be the case as long as they could drive a van and hold a screwdriver they had a job.
when i started all though years ago summertime you would dread the fax because it always had 2 pages 16 calls and if you was a duty engineer being out till the early hours of ther morning.
Times have changed but spares was always an issue if you saw a common spare failure you wouild request it to add to van stock.4 months later you get it on van stock to aid first call but then you discover that the common fault has gone you have cleared the area.
this still haunts me with samsung so much I wont goto one issued by a low paying agent until the parts arrive and then i will visit the machine as you suddenly find that if you only get a few calls you only get paid for the completed ones.
Thats the scary thing no doubt ex eac engineers will fail some will go on and cany say get rich but will make enough.
I hope i am one of them that suceed if i dont i have tried and its then time to move on in life.expertcat
Participantthe thermister are a horrible job to fit only done one will never do it againg.
They will give you a rough 3 inch square to cut into to find it.
When you have found it pull it out replace it then fill it up with fix and foam polystyrene foam by polycell.Just make sure you have plenty of floor coverage because it will drip everywhere but you will find that in a few years the insulation breaks down at that point anycase because you have entered at that point.Hope this helps.

ParticipantI have and there lovely and easy mind you its just been seized compressors.
When changing a compressor order relay and klixon as these sometimes fail as well at the same time as the compressore fails.
These dont come with the compressor which seems the norm with all these korean compressors manufactuers.expertcat

ParticipantI think the only refrigeration unit that will see service calls all the time are americian styles type mainly because they cosy £600 plus..
Those were the days of repairing the old russel hobbs K2 and K3 kettles stainless steel kettles and the old hoover constellation cleaners and the metal junior and senior cleaners.
And they still survive and out use the modern days units.

ParticipantRe: Expert Appliance Care
so your saying that refrigeration calls are a waste of time by just doing them so manufactuers would rather scrap than repair.
If taking that was the excuse because of cost then surely washing machines and dishwashers are next for the chop especially when i bought a w/m for £180 even i wouldnt mess around after a year to repair it so why would anybody else it would be cheaper to replace after your call out/labour adding up around mu neck of the woods £60 call out whats the price say of a pump £20 for a askoll own brand or £40 for man pump plus depending on manufactuers name.
You might be lucky for 1 call but after thats its a new one.expertcat
ParticipantRe: Expert Appliance Care
Been looking at my faxes for the last year winters used to be very quiet a few years ago 1 or 2 aday for a few days then it gets busier.
Now ive got at least 5-6 calls aday everday. The only sorry side that this work will disolve into other agencies many I suspect will not want to give it to any self employed ex eac engineer and they will try and soak it with their existing network. But you never know do you really unless you have ago.
Around my area w/m engineers are in every village but refrigeration I know of only 1 and I doubt he actually does work on them.
I will be set up for £2500 with the company tools and my own 8 year old van.I got 12months mot/tax/liability insurance. If after 1 year its not what I was expecting then its time to move on to a min earn job sell the tools and the van I can then say I have had ago.I agree it will be heard especially for a start some will fail buts that life the engineers who on here moaning that certain agencies only pay a small amount then I presume that they either still use them or they dont.If they still use them and are moaning then why are they using them like many of us they have a mortgage and family to feed. The ones that dont must have a lot of clientel so they dont need them so why moan?
As with all companies they are there to make a living they have larger overheads than us yes we have overheads. The only way you will earn money poss not much more than our wages is to work your socks off.If a certain agency offers £31 + system charges +vat and you can complete it well youve earnt it just make sure that you are not offering a to bigger area for that provider stay fairly local to base the larger offered amount the further you can go and of course more different agency work in a day offered the cheaper the tool/van drive time is.
So basically i am giving it a go I have w/m years ago but around my area your would be undercutting every other engineer so whats the different with an agency giving you less payments its money in.I dont agree with charging parts back at cost espically if you have got to buy a compressor from them rather than one you have on the van.But that another moan….

ParticipantRedundancy notices are on the way.
OK the 2 major contracters decided not to employ a new service company, but on the other hand its not a new company still using the majority of the same engineers.
IMO they backed out to early especially with the other manufactuers that was to still use them.
GTI should of gone on as each engineer was told the relation of IR and at the end of the day it was a safety net while other agencies would get involoved for other work.
Let down slightly but we live another day and hopfully pick up other work from the contracts that go over to the overside its never supposed to be easy as its a challenge some will win others wont.
Goodluck to all my fellow EAC engineers in what ever avenue they decide to go.

ParticipantRe: Expert Appliance Care
at the gti meetings we were told regarding IR and this would be easily solved with working for other agents.
As to the vans and tools being sold to the engineers.
My van is 18 months old 50K on the clock my local van dealer would not give me £5000 for it but iceland want over £6000 and the tools have alot of wear and tear ive been told to get these exchanged and the message fron iceland is no way the crap tools on the van are yours when ever you placed tool requests you always got secondhand. You returned crap with labels on it and got even worse crap back.
I would inmagine they are rubbing their hands with tools that are fit for scrap.

ParticipantI live in arural area have a mortgage and kids.
No agency has there good points and I have approach3 agencies for work who are sending out there info.
Yes Im getting redundancy pay not much.
I have sent my cv to other companies mind you out of 20 sent only 3 have replied.
Look in the job centre urgh no refrigeration engineers jobs going? unless your commercial trained and they have told me there not interested as they would have to train me.
So unless you want to be living on the min wage senario but with a mortgage and kids that will not be enough.
Yes i used to be a washing machine engineer but in my location you have self employed engineers to a dozen but no refrigeration engineers. The only problem as they are a poor farming community with brand new tracters and 4@4’s which never have entered a field trying to get money from them is harder but once you break into the circle you never know? -
