ParticipantI do but then I chase them up every week regarding jobs outstanding.Must amdint have 3 jobs that are nearly a year old and parts still on back order.
Getting credit notes is a problem but them I start chasing them a week after the parts have left me.
And I do make money from them they are not as busy with me like they used to be so I dont know if another agent has come on the seen or worst of al 0800repair (havnt seen the van though).

ParticipantI work as a JTM agent to be honest in my rural area covering 130 postcodes they still cant give me alot of work and I am the primary engineer.
When working for yourself recalls cost yopu money because if even if its not a recall jtm wont pay the new job only parts.
So tell me if theres a hole in a door seal one month and the motor fails next month they wont pay the labour on the second call.

ParticipantI have been to one like this
Personally I learnt to get the hell out of it quickly.
My customer told me that argos would pay the parts on talking to the company who gave me the call said customer will have to pay parts. After numerous amounts ofphone call before I even get there seems customer was trying to get one over on argos over the 5 year parts warranty sticker on machine.
Needless to say call was cancelled very quickly.

ParticipantWhen I worked for my last company we used to fill out a floor disclimer.
Even though it was company policy it apparently was just a waste of paper and ink.
I still had to go around and due door floor damage inspections that my engineers had done.expertcat
ParticipantAll the companies I haved worked for over the years have paid me if it snowed.
Suppose the worst would be if they asked for the day to be taken from your holiday allowance.I would say some people would take the pee but as usual the minority would spoil it.

ParticipantRe: LG WM-14225-FD, electrical popping!
If the likes of karl999 are like the bulk of the general puplic why come on this site and ask.
I work on behalf of the manufactuers like many engineers on this site.
Now the manufactuer has put on a waterproof covering on the machine for a reason to make the pcb waterproof.
By removing the waterproof covering you have now modified the appliance away from the manufactuers specification thus if the machine caught fire who would you go to.
Most likley your insurer but you have modified the machine so I would them presume that you would not tell the insurers this as your insurance would then be null and void. Most of the general public does take notice of engineers.
By all means dig away and solder a new fuse in but dont expect any engineer to touch the machine because all they will do would be to change the pcb. I understand the PCB will be not cheap but then the machines are not cheap either.expertcat
ParticipantI did some work for them.
You seem to get a years work from them and then nothing.
Can only presume that someone else comes along with a cheaper price.
But I can definantly say the one good thing is that you never go into the pub for a meal or drink after you have visited the pubs backrooms and cellars.

ParticipantWould be even better would be that in the franchise deal they have had to purchase van stock that no one ever uses anymore.
Been down that route with an old employer told him not to buy it but in his eyes was a good deal. It sat on the shelves and never got used.

ParticipantYou have got to admit to compete in this job experience counts.
Anybody likes to make mistakes when its someone elses money but when its yopur own it costs you.
I cant see many people changing their job to try and repair appliances.
The only reason I stayed in it was when being made redundant from expert the only jobs around was delivery jobs that paid min wage so decided to have a stab at running my own set up.Now I had the experience to do it after working since 1984 repairing appliances but would joe bloggs with no experience and paying £25k for the privalege.
They may say up to date training thats depending on the manufactuers who want to give it.Ive only known a FEW training days given by JTM and I can honestly say they were a waste of a day time and effort.

ParticipantLooks like as soon as you see the van in your area the likly chance that you will stop reciving call from JTM is High?
My company does receive some work from JTM it either comes all at once or dribbles in.
But I wont be held to a ransome of being a franchise holder because the work from them is irratic.

ParticipantThe problem is all with newcomers to this website.
When EAC came to an end the same thing happened here with this website because all these engineers that was to go by themselves would muscle in on other companies customers.
I have thought and after 3.5 years still here I cant say its a worry regarding where the next jobs come from but I never had to go and find work in the raw state so I am lucky I started on the wing of EAC knowing the work had to go somewhere. If I had to shell out for franchises like hotpoint was only to eager to sell me I would have not gone on the path and may have never started my own business but £25K its alot of money.
I can only presume that 0800alan is not self employed because if you have paid that much out would 0800 be his only work then he would be breaking the law as all his work is coming from 1 company.
