    Hiyas,
I can’t comment on the original post as I’ve heard absolutely nothing about it.
I can however reply to this post.

We don’t install consumer units, electricians do.
true but you are expected to spot a faulty one, and upgrade customer from old fuse wire to consumer unit
We don’t add to existing circuits, electricians do.
We don’t chase wiring to repair it, electricians do.
true but in most cases its white goods engineers who are sent out 1st to most hec jobs, un-aware what the job may involve
We don’t do rewires, electricians do.

We can change the fuse wire in a fuse in a consumer unit.
We can reset the rcd or mcb.
We can change a light switch, light fitting or a socket.
We can change transformers on low voltage lighting.

Hardly makes us electricians does it? very true …..
thats my point appliance engineers dont really have the mind-set to do home wiring and the safety issues that have to be considered.. ie locking of consumer unit etc.. its ok if thats all your doing all day.but appliance engineers probally doing 7-10 appliance jobs per day , then hec job finds it way on to diary , appliance engineer maybe have had a hard day arrives at hec job 4pm on auto pilot.. home electrics whole different set on rules/safety issues..

please dont think im having a dig at you bryan ..cos im not , i have worked for b/g and done engineer developement ..been privy to info that engineers dont normaly hear…also in touch with ex collegues who have various position within b/g..

i just thought this was worth a mention as its a big company trying to offer all to everybody , forcing engineers into jobs that they may not have the experience to carry out…

i think the problem lies with how experienced the engineer is in assessing what the problem is and whether job needs to be refered to one of the fully qualified electricans ….( customer always were a bit miffed when i advised them that i would need to call in a more experienced electrician if i couldnt find/trace problem)

once again im not having a dig bryan .

    yip seems strange..

they could be moments from safety , and then be made to go back into the lift , back up to their rooms..

bit of a bummer if its your room thats on fire..

old people you gotta love em
