yip your right lee , they do spot checks via calling customers and asking this that and the next thing – heard they were doing it wholesale a while back to try and off load excess staff ,

if they call a customer and customer cant remember whether engineer done certain checks then thats enough for engineer to be hauled over the coals.

Re: National Hoovering Of Service Work

yip something like what he just said ..

i suppose fme and search@ are already doing that ? , but not in the uniformed way you mention martin r.e everyone has same LOCAL FIX web template no matter what part of the country your in ..

what it would cost – no idea
    would every one contribute
how many to make it worth while ..

    its certainly worth exploring ?

maybe current search methods could bolt on a new service which includes a ready made LOCAL FIX web etc … this of course would need to be paid for ..

quick martin …. buy domain LOCALFIX .co.uk , com , net, org ,

the fuse box check is classic b/g sales tactic –

engineer on spotting an old wire fuse box etc – is supposed to sell customer a new rcd unit ..

but on the saftey side a bit ott but they are just covering their arses ..

how they expect engineers to carry out this on every app i dont know . i suppose it makes customers feel safe – chances are the appliance wont be fixed but its safe ..

i left them as the list of saftey checks , van checks , near mis database was growing arms and legs – i really counldnt stand the red tape and the muppet managers who tried to catch you out at every corner ..

Re: National Hoovering Of Service Work

    re address
i agree ken , i could understand address if you work from home ? and dont want customers turning up – but if you have an office -workshop then include it ..

what the big nationals are good at is web design and giving the appearance of confidence ?? .. some thing that independents probably need to work on

its a bit of a minefield really – some customers will use a site for tel number etc and wont really bother what site looks like – others will look at every page ,

i get the feeling that most just want a job doing -they have a quick look at home page if they like look of it and your local – relevant to job they will make contact .

ive just done a mobi site – still sussing out how to seo etc but think its worth having as most online surfing seems to be from mobiles phones tablets etc – so thought i would get in on the act still to early to decide if worth having but for £70.00 worth a go ..

makes even more sense – for everyone to make sure they claim there local google places listing ,

it would be interesting to see how many members have a listing

their should be enough members on here to achieve a national coverage.

Re: National Hoovering Of Service Work

maybe we could look at a way of subscribing a fee to engineer search ? .. and offer any customer who comes through search @ a fixed type fee – even if its just on labour . this would give customer a idea of costs .. ?

or something to this effect ..

    Re: google maps

YIP category listing is a bit weird ? , i think mines is appliance shop – was the closest …

good tip is to tag all your photos with your key words .. upload photo , this way you have key search terms via your photos

Re: National Hoovering Of Service Work

there are few nationals hoovering work – but i think once customer twiggs its not a local company they normally back off ,

i think ive said this a few times now – but i will say again

google somehow wants local business to take presidency over the rest .. and offer a local map etc this is for local customers to find local business but if you dont have a google places you wont be found

if you dont have a google placesdo it now it takes 30 minutes

you will then have a advert for your business on page 1 of google free of charge ,

you dont need a web site to do this ,

.. also we do have a huge weapon to compete , and no its not r600 ..lol

UKW find an engineer – i know kens been playing with ppc adverts on google as ive seen them , why dont we all contribute something per month to have more off …

    collectively we can compete

would be really interesting to see if you could get hands on fire brigade incident reports .. are they public docs .?

i bet their would be a pattern of incidents with certain products ..

that could be interesting – maybe not the best idea having a face book if you going to rip customers off

i have a facebook page – or so ive been told by my touch local people .. who decided to give me a face book page wall thingy ..
its freekin hilarious in my house just now , because ive been trying to act all smart etc asking the kids to paint my facebook wall ..i have no clue about face book apart from i watched the film … (lucky little sod ) … best bit is the kids are totaly shi{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}ing it as ive told them im added them to my wall thingy ?

maybe we should set up a contender — arseebook ..
