If the stud on the suspension leg is about 8mm I found that a spreader plate from a dishwasher element just fits the the Chanel OK as long as the damage to the cabinet is not to big.

i should have pulled it back out but it was late the machine was in a tight space.
its a no win situation either way i loose a customer.
    thanks for the reply Tim.

I found out the hard way never to presume that a w/m tap had been turned of accidentally, Both the times I have been bitten were for letting agent and managed to limit any damage caused. But now I,am paranoid about leaving any leak on an appliance I have worked on.

Re: Letting Agency jobs, the good the bad and the ugly ??

Hi, Ian I have been working for seven letting agency’s for the last 8 years and have found that they are quite demanding because if the the tenant is giving them ear ache they want the job done yesterday!. I have never been knocked for payment but if you just miss the rent cycle it can be 6 weeks before you get paid, Saying that I always add a bit on to the bill to cover waiting for payment. My favorite agent pays cash on receipt of my invoices 😆 So I save a week or two’s and walk out with a nice little bundle.

I use a pair of 11in long nosed pliers with the tips ground down a tad, A liberal coating of WD40 around the grove and position the joint at about the 2 30 position. Works well with the zipper and the hook and eye type.

Just for the record SAMURI’s tip worked for me on my very cheap Chinese lappy 2 and a half years later and still no water in the base 😀

Many years ago I became disillusioned with the company I started off with in this game and applied to Miele for job, Actually was accepted and offered the position, But began to think ! Do I want to work for a firm that would employ Me? 😆 So eventually drifted in to the mad world of the self employed appliance repairer.

Thanks for that Martin, Very informative, Must admit I haven’t got a loop tester but after in insulation and earth continuity test I always test between the machine and some exposed pipework, And alway check the socket with a martindale. Will look into the ” Socket and See” earth tester Got to be better than nothing.

    Re: Hotpoint D

Cheers Tim, Had a call from an old customer who was having problems with drum hot and steamy but not drying Suspected cond valve but when tested the coil was OK. Had a look at the cond vent at the top of the rear panel and the water flow suddenly stopped, Looks like the coil is breaking down under load.
