A word for chris,if you could let me know where i can obtain the correct triac’s for repairing boards i would be grateful,i still prefer repairing something(a better sense of achievement if it goes to plan than repalcing a board).
Talking about the cost of repairs, here’s a prime example;Servis wm brushes worn out,on two occaisions phoned Qualtex as i havent had the items on the van, only to be told brushes not available, cost of motor £200,
appliance cost £199.99.How can any manufacturer justify that.I now cut the old brushes out of the holder, solder a set of bosch brushes in,reassemble and away it goes.

Madmac your so right in what you say,i try not to look back at my books to compare one year to the next. However having stopped doing sales 8-9 years ago my turnover has remained about the same,i did put up my rates to £40 1st April last year but that’s the first time in 6 years.
But your right about the old phrase oh i’ll chuck it and buy a new one credit crunch or not.
You say tight fisted fellow Scotts, down this end of the country my fellow southerner’s are not much better.
Oh well tomorrow’s another day 🙂

Well for what it’s worth i have to say i agree with the vast majority of what i’ve read. Oh i remember the days of the washcraft machines or even Hoover A3060’s,admitedly the washcraft was better than the Hoover.Simple machines, easly repaired from what i remember, hey it was only 5-6 years ago one of my customers got rid of their old Hoover keymatic, now that’s not bad.
Now i did notice briefly a mention of Indesits smart card reader which can be obtained from Indesit for a mere £92,however Qualtex will get one for about £37+vat C00263927.
I have to admit like some of you there seems to be very little on the market apart from the obvious that i will or could recommend to a customer which i think is a bit sad.Where will it all end?.
Jokingly i said to a fellow engineer a few years ago that give it another 5-10 year’s and the consumer won’t need an engineer because repairs will become a thing of the past due to the cost of part’s, could this become reality.Who know’s,only time will tell.

    Re: replacement van

to richardable,i would’nt touch a citreon with a thirty foot pole.i bought a relay7-8 years ago, nothing but problems.it cost on average a grand a year in spares and that excludes the normal stuff, tyres, oil etc.a clutch alone was £978 and that was done by the AA who’s labour charges are far cheaper than citreon.
Anyway i decided to go to toyota and ill never bye anything else, totally reliable.

THE VAN IN FRONT IS A TOYOTA 8)

GUYS,TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT IT TURNS OUT I HAVE A THREE MONTH OLD TCR2 IN THE GARAGE WHICH I FORGOT I HAD,ANYWAY A FEW OF YOU MENTIONED A RELAY,I HATE TO SAY THIS BUT HAVING STRIPPED MINE DOWN I CAN HONESTLY SAY THERE’S NO RELAY FITTED TO THIS MODEL.SO I’LL HAVE TO GO WITH BOB’S IDEA OF THE MOTOR OVERLOAD OR CONSIDER POSSIBLE TIMER FAULT.ILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I GET ON.
