Thanks for the support guys – I think I’ll need it!!
Let me give you some current figures. I get £16 for under guarantee. £19 for Trade chargeable and £26 for Private chargeable.
Additions …. £25 for WM bearings, WMA rear tank kit and Indesit plastic tank backplate. £16 for plastic tank replacement, £25 for metal tank replacement.

I got my invoices today for the month of April I net £3k, £500 of that is VAT, £900 is stock that I sent back and was credited for. My diesel for the month is around £200, and let’s not forget Tax, the occasional parking ticket and sundry running costs. I do 11 calls per day. I normally complete 9 or 10 calls per day. Today I got home at 8.15pm

Re: The Easy Way to remove Hotpoint Drum Bearings

jesus Martin, sounds like a long winded way of doing it to me! I use the Hotpoint Bearing tool for extraction and insertion, never had any problems with it, I find it quick and efficient ( I only use it on WM’s), I replace the tank back on WMA’s, it’s quicker than pratting about with the bearings and it’s a much better repair, the rear tank kit includes a new heater and belt too.
    Put your drill away mate.

Speaking as a Merloni Franchisee (SHAME!!!), I can say your comments are relevant. However, in Europe, Merloni ONLY use franchise engineers, they are currently trying to convert the as many of the internally employed engineers as possible (around 1000) to franchise, with little or no success. We do know that they have offered some multi engineer independants a franchise, and as far as I’m aware, they will continue to do that.
One of the biggest problems we currently have is the link between Merloni and Domestic and General. We are paid more for Private Chargeable than for Trade Chargeable, but D&G are given all our work lists (they are linked into our central computer system), so around 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the private Chargeable work is converted to Trade Chargeable by the time we get there.
I will be ending my association with them when my contract expires, and many of the other franchisees I know are doing the same. I guess sooner or later, they will have to make a better offer.
How and when that will happen is anyone’s guess

    Re: Wierd WMA

Naaa, no hotpoint engineer would do that, we all carry wma belts as van stock, anyway, the only time we change belts on wma’s is when we replace bearings (long and often), we use the rear tank kit which includes belt, heater and suspension pegs.

I use the Bosch IXO (£24.99 from Homebase), it’s small and gets into all those little places. 3.6 volt with plenty of talk. I’m a Merloni engineer, and we all use them, great value, and very tough.
