ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WF840P sticks with 1 minute on display
I had one or two doing this, I reprogrammed the eeprom and the problem went away. One of the things I’ve found with the EVO2 machines (the test plug glows blue when inserted), is they sometime mess up when they are writing statistics to the eeprom, if there’s a transient on the mains when they are writing, they will corrupt the program. If Mr Customer is doing some DIY and his power drill is throwing out spikes on the mains, or if the socket the machine is plugged into is duff they can all lead to the machine starting to behave in a strange way. If you don’t have a reprogrammer, change the eeprom.

with the door open, switch the appliance on and within 2 seconds press the prog select button 4 times rapidly. The display will go to F! which indicates that it’s now in test mode. Pressing the half load button allows you to step through the test progs
I’ve got the full diagnostic paperwork, but it goes on for weeks.

I love clicking Idesits. 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of then are caused by stuff stuck in the pump. Even though the pump may still work, if the water took too long to pump out, the board will go into error mode and ………………. clicking selector. The rest, well heaters open circuit, that’ll get em clicking. NTC’s out of range …………. clicking. But my one big tip …………. go for the simple stuff first, and don’t forget the outlet hose and the sink connection, a partial blockage there will get the selector spinning too. Keep your dongle in the toolbox, check the pump, hose and the heater, that’ll get rid of most of the problems. Forget the eeprom, they rarely become faulty. Sometimes the boards mess up, but more often than not, it’s something simple. I fix 20 to 30 per week, and when I first started doing them, I tied myself in knots, but now I’ve reverted to first principles, and life is much easier. Forget that they are computer controlled, and remember how a washing machine really works.

NTC or NTC wiring, I have seen this caused by a dead module too.

I’ve come across this problem on EVO 2 equipped machines, in most of the ones I’ve dealt with, (if it’s an IDC machine, that is, thin wires to everything), the problem is usually down to wiring and crimp joints. On the non IDC (thick wires to everything), the problem is usually either the thermistor or a board fault.

I don’t know the model, but if it’s the usual klixon type with the bimetallic visible at the bottom, throw it onto a hard floor base first, that usually pops them back.

not a bad model, better looking than the Honda one I’ve got, but I bet mine is cheaper to run. I’d like to see a picture from the back though, would like to check out the input gland. 😆

I think it’s inevitable that Merloni will ultimately stop all uk production, with a 68{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} share of Hotpoint they can do what they like, and their Italian/Belgian/Russian factories are much more economical than the UK operations. Hotpoint lost £10M last year, their Italian masters won’t let that happen for much longer. As for the number of Hotpoint threads on here, considering that Hotpoint is the major (only) white goods manufacturer in the UK, and this site is called UK Whitegoods, call me Mr Picky, seems like a good place to talk about them.

ParticipantRe: The Easy Way to remove Hotpoint Drum Bearings
I hear what you say Chris, and when I’m working for myself (as against Merloni), I recover the tank rear and fit new bearings. I ALWAYS use the Hotpiont Tool, if the bearing sleeve has split I drift it out with a tensile steel drift and a club hammer, I’ve never had drill anything (I’ve been repairing white goods for over 20 years). It’s bad engineering practice to damage an appliance in an effort to repair it.

ParticipantRe: Getting the belt on the tension pulley – Hpt condenser d
The Hotpoint/Indesit TD belt fitting tool for CONDENSER tumble dryers is Part Number 5600266. It’s a brilliant tool, the same one they use in the factory, and literally takes seconds to fit a stretch belt. The list price is £27.00. The special tool I use for WMA stretch belts is called a large cable tie, works like a charm.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!
Yes Alex, I’m amazed too, which explains why I’m ditching them at the end of the contract. In my own defence, the deal was sold to me very well, and on paper it looked ok, the reality, of course, is very different. I am starting to advertise more now and over the next few months I will be ramping Merloni down as the private work increases. I have a good reputation, and old customers are starting to come back, and word of mouth is helping too.
I’ve heard of one or two franchisees who are doing 14 calls a day, just to make it pay, now that is madness!!
Apart from the stuff I mentioned in a previous post about being mugged by D&G, there is also the issue of recalls, and with indeshit, that’s a very big problem, and van stock not keeping pace with new models and component changes during production runs. Incomplete calls and recalls are a total loss, of course, but because of the scale of calls we do, the scale of incompletes and recalls gets bigger too, and lets be honest, if you’re doing 10+ calls a day, quality has to suffer.jimbo2207
ParticipantRe: “New” Coverplan
Yep we’ve (Merloni Engineers) have heard about this little gem too. merloni have strong links with currys and comet, and probably 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the jobs I do in a day are either Currys or Comet insured.
We just laugh at the latest currys bull. Right now they’d be lucky to get a 2 day call out from Merloni, and at peak times it could be 2 or 3 weeks.
Give it another 6 months and the plan will disappear.
If they want 2 hour call out, they’d better arrange to employ a thousand engineers and run it themselves.jimbo2207
ParticipantRe: Strange fault on Indesit washing machine – stumped!
Sounds like the motor to me. I carry a motor for substitute as a check. The software on the board has no answer to a motor open circuit fault, so the interlock locks and the board waits for ever. All I do is unplug the motor and plug in a new one, 9 times out of ten, the machine sparks into life. However ……. you mentioned an “F2” fault ……. does this mean you have a display unit in the machine? if you do, a faulty display board can stop the machine working. The module and display board should be changed as a matching pair and don’t forget that the display board has an eprom in it, you’ll have to take the eprom out of the old display board and fit it into the new one. Fun isn’t it??
