ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WF series / Ariston query
Yep, the ultima uses a 3 phase brushless motor, so it’s very, very quiet, the large exposed heatsink on the module is live after you pulled the plug, I wait for one minute before touching it, never had a belt ………… yet!!!
Just for your interest, the three phase evo2 module is very sensitive to condensation and dampness, will blow up real fast! I’ve fixed a few, only a couple of month old, with severe charring on the pcb, the reason. In a small room with a tumble dryer.jimbo2207

ParticipantRe: Comet Service Centres
The deal Comet have with Hotperloni is that we do all the Indeshit under guarantee, and they do the Hotpoint. If they come unstuck on a Hotpoint then we have to go out. I went to a WMA from Comet, under guarantee, it was noisy, apparently, and they’d been out to it 6 times. On one occasion their “engineer” had changed a suspension strut, he’d turned it on its side and taken the whole thing out from underneath ……. wow, I’d have paid good money to watch that. the customer said it took the guy 25 mins to get the plastic peg out with a mole wrench. And he just did the one, nicely balanced.
The problem?? Well, when comet delivered it, they didn’t remove the transit bolts.Another one was the hotpoint D/W installed by comet, it wouldn’t drain. The problem, the installer had fitted the outlet hose to a blanked off connector on the sink trap.
I love those comet guys, they make me laugh.

ParticipantRe: Indesit WD12 UK F5 & F10 ???
I’ve seen a lot of these boards blow up due to dampness and high humidity. The latest boards have a resin coating on both sides to help prevent arcing, but the older ones don’t. If the machine was being used in a confined space, that could be the cause.

Sorry just to mention. Get some wine bottle corks (the plastic ones are best, cut them into 1 cm slices (widthways), before you start unscrewing the spider, stick the slices on the inside of the back panel screw holes, you know, where those jagged bits of metal have been left by our italian cousins. It saves numerous cuts, I keep a supply of them in my toolbox.

always blowtorch the pully bolt, saves on torx bits, I agree the halfords ones are best, I’ve come across the small tears in the backplate, clear sealant sorts them out. And make sure you tigten the 8 torx screws very tight, in the machine with the cast iron spider, the spider acts as the rear (top) counterweight.

ParticipantRe: hotpoint timers
The replacement timer for all WM’s (digital) is 1603787. There were variations, but they were interchangeable, although the wash programs might have slight differences. The replacement motor for all of them now is Digi FHP 800/1200, part number 1604822. And yes, that means that you can soup any of them up to 1200 rpm

My mate at comet tells me that hotperloni machines selling in store for £200 to £250 are bought for £90 to £100. So Hotperloni make em and ship em for, let’s say £100 and they still have to make a profit. I’m not here to defend manufacturers, but the reason they make such unrealiable machines, I think, has more to do with the selling strategies of the sheds and the buying strategies of the customers. They force the manufacturers down to a price, they (the sheds) make huge profits while the manufacturers are forced to sell more and more to make substantial profits.
When customers winge at me about their Motperloni gizmo that’s gone tits up in the first 3 months, I ask them how much they paid for it. I then point out how much it was made for , and the reason Hotperloni had to do that was because customers and retailers demand cheaper and cheaper kit.
The German manufacturers are bringing their prices down too, and likewise their quality will suffer. There will always be niche manufacturers who can maintain high prices, but for the rest …………………….jimbo2207
ParticipantRe: Shoes Off please
I tell ’em health and safety. If the customer insists, then I tell em to get the carpet taken up and to phone for a new appointment when it’s been done, that usually brings about a change of heart, if they complain to customer service, they’ll get another mouthful of abuse from our wonderful advisors at Peterborough.

ParticipantRe: Any Ladies Present?
Sorry to be totally unPC here, but how many women would work on macines full of spiders and rat droppings, kneel on grotty floors surrounded by the stench of filth and get their hands and arms cut to ribbons because (italian) manufacturers are unwilling to remove sharp edges etc. Most women have far more sense. (Apart from customers, of course)

smeg washer dryer in a brand new £1 million apartment in docklands, slate everywhere, an awesome sight. The W/D was the first appliance, ie next to the wall, couldn’t pull it out more than 3 inches cos there was a window sill in the way. After the kitchen fitters had left, Mr Jobsworth chippy had gone in and fitted the sills. They had to have the sill removed before I could fix the machine.

ParticipantRe: Can you beat this?
£4.20 and a collar stiffner from an Ariston, Ironic really, probably more than the machine was worth. Mrs Dimbrain said, “I don’t understand it, I always check the pockets”. How do they ever manage to find their way home?

for the machines with the one jockey wheel, the technique I use (which works well and is quick), undo and remove one of the bolts which hold the jockey wheel bracket to the motor frame, and loosen the other one. lever the bracket upwards until it’s in contact with the motor shaft. That will allow the belt to be fed over the wheel, with an extension bar lever the wheel and bracked back down and pop the bolt back in.

yes, it’s the sort of fault that 2 minutes with the test plug and wash doctor software would deal with.
