KeymasterOkay, if it’s not in a an environment that’s under 10C or so then it is most likely a system fault which is a specialist repair, not a DIY job I’m afraid.
If it’s one of the electronic contolled one though these can really throw you oout, even we get stumped by them at times and some of the weird and wonderful things they throw up, but again I would not recommend a DIY fix. And on those, “taking a guess” can be a very expensive route to take. 😕

KeymasterJust so you all know…
The Repairs@ module now seems fine and working as we want it, as well as being a LOT easier for us to manage remotely via the usual web interface. Hats off to Calum and especially Paul that did all the coding for this as it really is very, very cool.
So tonight Dave and I will be entering on all the repairer details that we have but it’ll be mostly Dave so buy the poor sod a beer when you see him next as, believe it or not, I have a meeting this evening but I’ll get a couple done. 😉
Point is, we’ll test a few tonight or tomorrow with a view to Repairs@ being live at some stage tomorrow afternoon or early evening.

KeymasterHi Pete,
Dave may well be able to source those for you but he’ll likely need a model number which should be on the rating plate along with the serial numbers etc.

KeymasterHi Sandman,
You haven’t got the machine in a garage or another cold place where the temperature is under about 10C have you?

KeymasterYeah, Gorenjie are using a touch LCD now and so are/were others.
I wonder when they’ll design one that’s uncaring user proof, child proof, waterproof and lasts more than a couple of years. 😆
And I had a topper on a De Dietrich oven control panel (electronic) the other week, the DOG chewed it to bits! Plan for that one Mr Hitachi!

KeymasterBryan,
You do realise that the vicious little penguin will have his revenge don’t you? :rotl:

KeymasterStarvin,
I wouldn’t as there’s a danger that the heat will not be distributed correctly of the door effectively cooled in the manner intended., What that means is that the other door glass could “blow” if it gets too stressed. So my advice is no, don’t use it till it’s fixed or you could cause more damage.
Apart from which it’d be damn hot to touch!

KeymasterBrandt/De Dietrich do charge for instruction manuals and, from memory, they are about £6-£10 a throw. No downloadable version available for that model, I checked.
Your cutting out problem is likely to be either the main oven stat faulty allowing the machine to cut out on the safety stat or the safety stat itself faulty. The instruction book won’t help you there so there’s no point paying for one. 😉
If the timer were faulty you’d get different symptoms on that machine.
Hope that helps.

KeymasterRe: Smeg Washer Dryer Vibration
Possibly Tony but it should only affect machines that were produced from (I think) mid-2004 onwards.
The biggest single cause of vibration, or I should say excessive vibration, is a combination of wooden floors, cheap suspension systems and woefully inadequate testing by the manufacturers.
Then on top of that people are duped into thinking that higher spin speeds mean drier clothing. 🙄

KeymasterRe: APM 6325 Fridge Problems
If the compressor is running continuously then the most likely thing at fault is the thermostat, although any air getting in through the seal will not help that at all. If you get hot air into a fridge and, by hot I mean room temperature, it will mean that the machine has to work harder to cool the cavity and it can lead to frosting problems.
A thermostat to replace in most of them aren’t too bad price wise but Dave will have to check it for you as I haven’t got access to the information here.

KeymasterRe: British Gas…time to tell all
Doing our own spares is not such a stupid idea and Dave and I have discussed it on many an occasion. The problem is the take-up on it and everyone has their own friendly rep etc. but for fast movers it’s all too possible to do.
Thing is, if there’s enough interest and we can forward order we’d look to buy direct from factory, which is one hell of a lot cheaper.
We have the contacts and the motivation, just not the orders. 😕
If we do do that though the prices will only be open to subs, not the general trade, stick another 5 or 10 points on for them.
As for BG I think that the getting poached thread is the way to go, IIRC they approached Lawrence Carey in the same way as well Chris, it’s not the first time that that’s happened that’s for sure.
I am thinking on a retaliatory move, but give it a short time as I MAY have an ace up my sleeve, but it has to be done at the right time and in the right way.

KeymasterHi Razvanos,
Try Meile, as far as I know they are pretty helpful. There will be a link in the Weblinks section.

KeymasterRe: British Gas…time to tell all
I did do a post but it’s gone. 😕
Okay, to combat BG is at best going to be hard quite simply as they have money to throw at the problems as Martin rightly points out. They are fuckers and we will have our own back at some point, but it’s a bloody big fight that one is.
Also they may be an ally! 😯
Remember they buy a shitload of spares as well so they may join in the fight on that front.
Complex this politics business isn’t it?
I was hoping for a member of the public on it forst, or better still a few of them on it. But there are ways and means to do that.
Martin, ask Richard (RS) if he can snoop about some of the consumer forums as he knows a few of them well enough and see if there’s any moans on this front and to post that we have BG senior staff that read this site. Now that’s a bit more subtle and opens the door, hopefully the floodgates if all goes well. It also means that we didn’t start the fight, orchestrated it perhaps, staged it, maybe… but prove it!
On the salary front we are slowly starting to get somehere with rates, but it’s a long hard slog and getting from where we are to where we want to be is going to be harder still. But I think it can be done. That way we can at least compete if nothing else.
We could also do with a high profile thread “BG Steal Another Engineer” sounds a good topic to me, explaining that we could not compete with the salary on offer. I may have a word with Rudolph there as he always gets some attention. But we will have to keep that thread high profile for a while, the rumour mill if it could be construed or spun to fit there would be best for it. Or indeed work and vacancies as the trade will read it in either.
Beyond that, I’ll have to have a think about it.

KeymasterRe: D&G
It does actually say that in the agreement I got but I scored it out and said that they get two chances, after that they get charged irrespective. With hindsight I should have said once. 😕
