There are a number of peple who used to enter pieces on the site most of these had much credibility within the industry , we need them to come back.
Bet you forgot that Jason. 😉
Just FYI, this month has seen us have our busiest month yet again and we will have had over 22,000 uniquie visitors this month alone. The exposure is set to increase.

That’s okay Mal, both Dave and Kevin (amongst others) insult me far worse than that on a very regular basis, mind you they get as good as they give. 😉
There may come a time when we’ll be looking for help but we have to get a lot organised in the next few months and right now we’re prioritising certain projects. i.e. the ones that we feel are the most worthwhile and will deliver benefits.
But the offer is very welcome and I thank you for that.

KeymasterPJS,
Tecnik in the UK is just a brand name for Moben Kitchens/Kitchens Direct but I think that one’s an AIS model. Dave should be able to confirm that in the morning.

KeymasterRe: Samsung Fridge/Freezer SL39WJ1/XEU HELP PLEASE !!
Sarah,
The trade’s experience with Samsung has not been the best and you’ll find a lot of the guys won’t touch them due to issues with spares and technical information, so if we struggle for technical information I doubt that you’ve much chance of getting any from Samsung. All repairs for Samsung refrigeration products are handled by Expert Appliance Care to my knowledge and, in all honesty, you’ve got a far better chance of them being able to do a first time fix on the machine but I’ve no idea where the £200 an hour came from as I don’t think that Expert charge anywhere near that amount.
The point is that they’re liable to have spares on the van or be able to get them from base pretty sharpish and it sounds as if you may well have a PCB failure on the machine. The last time I priced one it was about £100 for the part, but it could be other things as it’s very hard to diagnose these kinds of faults remotely. As for a schematic for the PCB, forget it, it won’t exist even in the service literature I should imagine.
As you are not the original purchaser of the machine there’s little that Samsung (or most of the other manufacturers) will do to help you financially I’m afraid. Added to which you have no proof of purchase as, at the age claimed, you would have some limited comeback where it not for the fact that the appliance is second hand in effect.
Not good news I know, but at least you know the score.

Yes Mal, there are quite a few of us that think that way and some of us are even trying to do something about it as well. 😉

KeymasterE6 is a drain error. That’s the full explanation, you’d have to investigate as to why it wasn’t draining beyond that as there are five main reasons listed, blockage, drain hose, pump, level switch and then you break that down beyond there.
Hope that helps.

KeymasterRe: DASA.
Mark is correct, it is tedious (to say the least) going over and over DASA time and again picking the bones as it were.
Right now DASA is supposed to be being re-organised and revitalised however it has to be said that there has been little, if any, of the changes proposed instigated as yet. There is a council meeting in January (which I won’t be attending due to other commitments) at which quite a few things were supposed to be in place for, so far I can see no evidence of those inituatives being instigated.
For now I see my time and effort as being better spent in other areas as well as my money. I want to see a return on any investment I make, it’s that simple.
The simple reason for the situation that DASA finds itself in is that it is being run by the members currently with no full or part time staffing to support it and at this time of the year they’re all a tad busy with their own afairs without the burden of DASA on top of that.
If it’s any consolation I’m with Alex on this one. I have not yet paid my subsciption to DASA for this year and unless there is changes made then I can also see little point in forking out for things to just trundle on as they are. Maybe that could be viewed as a bit on the harsh side but having been involved with DASA for 20 years or more (albeit with a little break) I have yet to see any sweeping changes being made in all that time. So my suspicion is that none will come about in the next few months or perhaps even years either. The biggest single change was made in January of this year and, almost a year later, there has been virtually no change to DASA or its modus operandi.
I can’t, right now, see a way forward for DASA as things stand. They need funding to do anything of any worth and with a falling membership the funding that they do have is dropping.
In short this is where I see DASA as being now and, without some breakthrough in the short term I really cannot see it ever doing much of anything.
DASA also desperately needs to communicate with people outside of DASA, they have done a lot to improve communications within DASA (although it could still be a LOT better) but still the external communications are, frankly, rank rotten but bordering on the non-existent.
It needs to be permanently manned and promoted and right now, neither is happening. It is the council and primarily the officiers and chairman that have to change it and tell people why it is worth being in DASA, why it is important and what the value of being a DASA member is but again, sadly, that just isn’t happening here or anywhere else that I can see. Even when it does it’s the same old rhetoric that we’ve heard for the past 20 years. It has to change to survive.
As to whether or not to stump up the fees, well that’s a desicion that only the individual can make.

KeymasterRe: Diplomat ADP8224 (SMEG) Dishwasher – E2 Error Solution
E2 can be caused by up to 12 different faults, by far the most common is the side tank being blocked in some manner but it is by no means the only thing that can cause the error to occur. It is with this in mind that we will often recommend that an engineer look at the problem as there is no magic cure for it, nor an easy one as the side chamber (as you saw) is not a two minute DIY job to mess about with.
Most fault codes are a generalised area of failure, they almost never pinpoint the actual failed component or where a blockage is, they are meant as a guideline for an engineer only. Even knowing what the code means only points us in the general direction of where to start looking for the problem. This holds true for almost any electronically controlled appliance I have yet seen.
There are little diagnostic tools for some appliances that can report the failure, Whirlpool use them and so do Meile pretty extensively but they ain’t cheap! Also, when you call in an engineer for some appliances, like Miele, they may well not have the ability to diagnose the fault either without the specialist diagnostic equipment. Many manufacturers will not allow even us in the trade to have that information, or at least make it prohibitively expensive to obtain it so they can charge what they want for a repair as nobody else can, or will, touch it.
But customers will be swayed by a few flashing LEDs or nice VFD/LCD displays, especially if they’re nice blue ones, you can end up paying a big premium for that at a later date though. 😕

Presonally I agree to the both the latter, I think that the Dance With The Devil thread is not only one of the best on UKW but one of the best I’ve ever read anywhere. Cracking stuff.
I’ll think about it some more when I’m more awake/sober/not as stuffed! 😀

KeymasterRe: re: CHEAPER AND CHEAPER
I find this incredibly interesting.
Why would a retailer or manufacturer want to sell a product cheaper? All it does is lower margin in the vain hope that volume will increase, but you’re trading in a stagnant market. I just don’t understand the logic.
Surely the sensible thing to do is to push the prices up and therefore, by default, the margin on the product. Or is that just too much common sense?
Competing solely on price is a falicy IMO arrived at by bean counters that take littte of no notice of consumers or consumer retention in the long term and the whitegoods industry is a long term industry. It is often cited as moving at glacial pace in terms of product advancement as it takes so long to change people’s views and get new features into the home due to an extended replacement cycle.
The danger for the bigger retailers and brand names is that consumers are now smarter and more informed than ever they have been, it’s going to be tough pulling the wool over their eyes for much longer as many are now too are now looking at things on a global scale. It is happening in other industries, it’s only a question of time before this one catches up with the rest of the pack. And there’s always the new kids on the block that will offer the consumer something a bit different and back it up with a warranty to match.
If you ask me, the price war is over. We all lost, let’s lick out wounds and move on.

KeymasterRe: WD40 sprayed in cooker switch
Before we get into the chemical composition of the stuff here’s what we need to know…
Apply it to something with a spark or naked flame and it blows up.
Applying a match or lighter to the spray as it comes out makes for an interesting party trick.
It fixes squeaks real good.
It repels water.
I mean, really, what else do we need to know? 😆
