KeymasterRe: Diplomat ADP 8221
What yopu both have sounds more like heating problems and resettting won’t help that in the least. The reset procedure is in the forums for these dishwashers if you want to try it, but I very much doubt it will make a jot of difference.
You’re looking at the heating circuit, possibly the pressure system or possibly a timer failure, but that’s not too likely. If you’re unsure of how to proceed I would advise getting a hold of an engineer familiar with the appliance/s.

KeymasterRe: Public Help ?
Yep, you can only go so far in giving advice out and you reach a point with most these days, telling the customer that they would really need to get an engineer. The trick is to be nice and make sure it’s one of us that they look at for the service. 😉
With modern machines it is getting harder for the DIY repairers out there although there are many that will still have a go I’m sure, but like the cowboys they’re being forced to get someone that actually does know what they’re doing. Hence I don’t mind the free call brigade as if they want to tear about the countryside getting a bad name for themselves that’s fine, I only take exception when they start slagging decent product just because they don’t have a clue about it. That said, customers that do buy something half ways reasonable aren’t stupid and it doesn’t take them long to suss when the engineer is guessing and they now have a great tool to find out if the diagnosis is correct or not, the internet. In many cases, that customer will end up here, on UK Whitegoods these days.
Penguin is quite correct, once the customer calls up A.N. Other for service or wants to buy a spare part then the call is lost to the “authorised” agent, all you can do is try to help the customer and hopefully with the lesson learnt they won’t make the same mistake again. I used to get really worked up about this as a Zanussi agent in particular just because there were so many out there without a clue trying to repair machines that they hadn’t the first idea about, I gave up worrying about such things long ago. If the customer calls in someone that rips them off, be it on purpose os simply due to lack of product knowledge, then so be it, they’ll know better the next time I hope and will have hopefully learnt that maybe the callout charge that they face wasn’t so expensive after all.

KeymasterI phoned Dave earlier about it, the thought as to why struck me in the car on the way to a wedding which I didn’t want to be at, so sloping off and calling Dave and Kev seemed a fine plan. 😉
However, the problem should be fixed now.

No the Moderator forum has its place and use from time to time.
There’s no hack I know of, it was possibly the SSL certificate that you needed if you accessed an HTTPS page. 😉

both access from work and home presents the same problem.
when i click on forums it just goes to a page saying forum information.when i log out and access it i can see these pages ?! 😯 😕
We’ve now had this from AOL (which is no great shock ;)) and two people not on AOL but not a slew of errors that I’d expect.
I use the site with IE6 as well as Mozilla extensively and have no issues at all on four PC’s using two different ISP’s and I cannot re-create the error. I have also tried going back through several versions of IE in an attempt to find out why this happens and the short answer is I can’t. I have also done some scanning on support forums et all and even they don’t shed any light.
The only thing I can assume it is would have to be some sort of firewall issue, ISP issue or a settings issue within the browser being used as if it were not then, as I said, I’d have slews of people telling me the same thing. 😕
Not a lot of help I know, but as I cannot isolate the problem or see the cause I can’t put it right.

KeymasterRe: busy,busy,busy..how about you?
It’s not that I don’t wish to do more Kev, It’s that I can’t due to circumstance, even if I wanted to do so.
To take on more work I would need another engineer, which everyone knows is nigh on impossible to get as they are like rocking horse manure! So, the only option is then to train one and, frankly, I can’t afford to train an engineer, we simply could not carry the dead weight for long enough as well as fork out for CORGI training an all that malarkey. Especially if they just get pinched a few months later by one of the big boys bribe as they can afford to “buy” engineers as we’ve seen over the past year or so.
Were I earning enough to be able to pay the guys circa £25K I’d take the risk on on it, but I’m not. So why should I take the chance on investing my time, my money and my skills in training an engineer for Merloni, British Gas or whoever else can offer the most cash?
Sadly, that’s the reality of the situation.

KeymasterIf it was the refrigerant then it’s pretty much harmless, the mist would have been the compressor oil, again pretty much harmless and not to be worried about.
You would need serious quantities of either to be of any consequence or concern.

KeymasterHi Gary,
This doesn’t exactly soound too clever. I take it that the machine wasn’t cool after the 12 hours? If so then it’s back the retailer to request replacement I should think if it’s never worked from the get go.
It sounds as if it has a leak on the refrigerant side from what you say.

KeymasterRe: LCD TV for the van
LOL, I assume that this is for the kids and you’re not installing a water bed as well?
There was an amusing anecdote there and I’m pretty sure we all have some on that subject, but let’s not, it’s probably for the best. 😉
You can pick up some cheap headrest LCD screens from Ebay, there’s a fair few coming from China and Hong Kong that are dirt cheap now. Some of them are even doing the roof monted ones that flip down which I feel are a bit more secure, or at least not as noticeable at least if a bit harder to fit.
Yoou could also try some of the PC places, http://www.linitx.com carried some pretty cheap IIRC.

KeymasterRe: busy,busy,busy..how about you?
We too have been very busy of late, far busier than usual although I did manage to give the guys a lighter day tomorrow thankfully.
I have to say though that I agree with Mark, I won’t turn away chargeable calls. I tend to prioritise on a per rate basis but also take into account the nature of the work as well, i.e. if it’s an almost certain “double-visit” I try to pre-order more than I usually would, especially on the lower paid stuff, as that double visit is holding up another call that is producing income, not eating it. This is where what the client pays dictates the level of service that they recieve IMO.
Interesting point about customers not telling WP’s et all when you get it right as they’re fast enough at telling them when you get it wrong, or think you have! 😕
But I tend to agree with Mark, sticking the loot in the bank without the hassles of having to do invoices, sort out rejections, pander to unreasonable demands, take flak for a crap product etc etc is far, far more satisfying.
That said I can understand why you’re taking the line you are Kev and I fully understand the implications of what you’re saying as I’ve only been banging on about it for the last three years or so! Maybe sometime soon the people that need to pay attention will actually start to do so.

KeymasterHi Bill,
Depends on stock, if they are in stock then the fastest way is Royal Mail Special Delivery, not guaranteed Saturday delivery but I’ve rarely see it fail to get to the customer on a Saturday when despatched on a Friday. 😉
I take it by hinge block you mean the hinge reciever on the oven and not the door hinge, on the door? Irrespective I would always advise you to replace both as is one’s gone the other is almost sure to be on it’s way out as well. More often than not we’d just replace the hinges and recievers and be done with the problem totally.

KeymasterPlastic door hinge, dead easy one that is and not very expensive either. From memory under £5 but usually arounf £3-4.
Dave will most likely have it in stock but can’t check until the morning. 😕
