If it’s public members (which so far as I know it is) then on their own heads be it. There’s little that we can do.

I don’t think that Clive has trade access and may be unaware of all this.

Well when this does break into the main forums, which I’m sure it will at some point, we all have to be taking the same line/s on this. If we do, hopefully, it’ll set the president and others will take heed of Brandt maybe getting a kicking over spares returns etc. With any luck they’ll pay attention and take heed.

Anyway, that twat Manaj may be a nice guy to speak to, but by fuck he’s pissed us all off. 😕

Na not at all Andy, Go is a great thing I reckon and I even looked at buying one a short while back, but at the money for that dedicated unit I’d have that every time.

    Re: SatNav

Yeah Andy I use GPS occasionally on the laptop and I have used it on handhelds and palms as well and they’re fine in their place. In a working van simply clipping off the facia and walking away is a whole lot easier than faffing about pulling off leads and stashing gear away.

I’m a great believer in a dedicated device for a specific task for most things and this is one such instance, the simplicity of a dedicated device is just brilliant here as I have the Alpine single slot satnav in my car and wouldn’t swap it out except maybe for a better one. But in terms of ease of use, believe me, there’s no contest the dedicated device wins hands down every time.

The argument used to be that they were more expensive, too expensive when compared to Tom Tom and the likes and, to an extent, that was very correct, but at £299 when a decent palmtop with GPS will cost near that to me it’s a no-brainer, buy the radio unit. And then on top of that in that unit you get TMC which will automagically re-route you if there’s a traffic snarl up

The arrival of TomTom Go has changed the map and obviously is forcing the prices down rapidly on dedicated devices. TomTom Go is a brilliant product in its own right but still has not got the advantages of a fixed SN head unit in terms of security and, I suspect, longevity in the field. Fine for occasional light use but not for engineers knocking hell out of.

Also consider that the radio is muted when the voice guidance kicks in so you hear the directions clearly even if the radio is pretty loud.

And if you hadn’t already guessed I cn’t go palmtops, I think they’re next to useless things and almost redundant due to the wave of smartphones that have been appearing of late. A lot of people like them though and that’s fine, I just don’t see the point and I regularly argue that case in an IRC channel full of people that use and love them, even they accept that they have limits. 😉

Removable solutions are fine if you need to use them in more than one vehicle and you trust the driver to either remove it or hide it at every stop.

    I don’t. They’re employed and they don’t care.

Actually, the rate one of them’s going this year it wouldn’t have come as a shock!

And I only every drowned one, that was getting ambition, ability and the depth of the “puddle” all confused. 😆

Re: Well There We Have It!

There’s something we can take issue with and start on…

    SPARES RETURNS!!

I point blank refuse to post or send spares back and I point blank refuse to pay for them as well if it is not MY fault. If they want them then they can bloody well come get them, at their expense.

    Point is, it works!

Now if we all took that attitude and stance then there would be little option and, in most cases, it would actually be cheaper for them just to issue a credit note and leave you with the part. Frankly, for the costs involved in it all, it’s simply not worth the hassles involved of us doing it or of them picking stuff up.

But why should I included in my £40, be expected to fill in forms, jump through hoops, repack, label and ship at my expense parts that I should never have had to pay for in the first place. That’s my line on it and, since we do not send out spares to the public, we have no deals for shipping, which costs a fortune. No, bollocks, they can pay for it if they want that service.

Yeah I do some work on Caple.

Not seen any Neff badged up but loads of Menenghetti and a mix of Whirlpool and Fagor badged I think, from memory.

    Re: Parts Guarantee

    An interesting one this is.

By the letter of the law you have the same rights as a customer IIRC therefore if the part is faulty then you can return it for replacement. Getting that replacement from a distributor or a manufacturer is a whole other ball game as we all know only too well as they seem to make it as difficult as possible. 😕

Zanussi used to take the line that once a replacement machine or spare had passed beyond the 12 months from date of purchase, NOT the date of exchange or replacement then the warranty had expired. The reason being that you could go on ad infinitum if you did not take that line.

Tricky one I’m afraid and really you should discuss with the parts reseller or manufacturer and see if they will be reasonable about it.

    Re: New Campaign

We’ve left alone the reduced rate BER for a long time and it is something I personally abhor but I don’t know that now’s the time to attack it, or much of anything else in all honesty. We’re into the busiest season of the year now for all of us and we are all going to be pressed for time in the next couple of months. Plus people’s minds are elsewhere with Crimbo etc. on the way, so I wouldn’t launch anything now unless it was a real issue.

That said, you’ll have noticed that most new stuff getting banded about is coming with a £40 or thereabouts rate anyway and most are giving up on the reduced BER as well. So in time I think we’ll see a move away from that anyway as it’s bollocks and we all know it.

Kev, I take your point re the amount of work but to some extent I don’t accept it. Were you to get an extra £2.50 a call either through spares mark up or increased labour you’d be £800 a month better off although you will be aware of that as well as I am. However, reduced rate BER calls do affect you through DAG. 😉

Oh come on, it’s not that boring is it?

Really, who can we upset next? I think we may upset a few people soon enough but this is getting dull now.

Maybe I should answer Dave’s WP post and really rock the boat a bit again. I’ve been avoiding it as I can’t think of a way to say “you’re a shower of gits” nicely!

    DASA is too easy! 😀

Or maybe we should start slapping someone else about, just for a change you understand. 😈

On the other hand this is a stupidly busy month for me and I really don’t have the time, hence the silence. Plus I’m knackered, I need a holiday which wil happen in Feb, not soon enough I say. Needless to say I will not be far away from the internet and I will have my laptop with me, how sad is that?

But after that I’m for being back with a vengence. 😉

Anyway, I have to say that this past week I’ve been a bit quiet and lacking in motivation. Partially because of the poor response to e-Jobs and partially because I’m just so damned tired but I’m hoping that a couple of meetings in the next few weeks will perk me up a bit and news that I may have gotten another sponsor for Jan 05 is kinda keeping me going.

I find it incredibly funny that, if my plans work, that I’ll take more money from A. N. Manufacturer in one year that DASA has taken from several in several years, that cracks me up a bit. really that needs re-thought out a bit, it’s £5K for a year as an associate member of AMDEA FFS and DASA charges a whole £250, it’s a joke. But I’m just a dumb Scot, WTF do I know?

Any ideas on who to wind up?

It doesn’t look as if there is, but I’m only looking at a line drawing which ain’t the best it has to be said. The PCB isn’t even listed on the parts list yet is shown in the diagram. 😕

Welcome to dealing with the Italians! 😉

    And so it begins…

We are now entering the data for e-Jobs for upload, this has to be done before it goes live obviously, of all the people that have registered. If you’ve not sent the form back can you do so please?

As Alex likes to say, if you’re not in it you can’t win it!

    Re: SMEG Double Oven SUK62MFX

    Hi Ray,

If it were a new installation I’d suspect poor ventilation causing an overheat situation and tripping the safety stat out. Other than that it pretty much has to be a faulty stat, either the oven one allowing the appliance to overheat, or the safety stat which, in this case, is a little PCB.

    Hope that helps.

    K.

PS. Meant to add, there could be a faulty cooling fan as well that could cause this too.
