    kawan,

I’ll check in the morning for you but generally there are only three or four things to actually fail in a hood, the motor, the lights, the switch/touch panel and a power card if it’s used. Generally they are pretty simple and it’s most likley one of the two latter items that’s failed giving the “dead” fault.

Either Dave or I will get back once we get to the info in the AM.

    Hiya,

Thay element is actually made, or supplied at least, on Elco Brandt built appliances and it was out of stock for a bit not so long ago but I haven’t checked it in a while.

Dave should be able to sort you one out in the morning without any trouble.

    Johnny,

If you can give us a model number we’ll be able to sort that out in the morning for you very easily.

It should be on the inside of the unit on the rating plate, take of teh grease filters and have a nose around, you should see it.

Re: New PCB – Diplomat ADP8224 Dishwasher

    Steven,

It is possible, unlikely, but possible that you have the wrong soap dispenser as a replacement. There has been a couple of cases recently were the wrong SD installed would cause the E2 error however this is as yet a very rare occurence and unconfirmed as an actual problem. In effect, it could be as silly as you getting the wrong SD initially. Although to be fair with the original timer you should have heard one of the solenoids on the new SD buzzing all the time as it should have been constantly energised.

As for the PCB/timers, once fitted they are not returnable, there’s no spares seller that will take back used spares especially of that nature as there is no way to test that they have not been damaged. That’s the risk that we run every day with spares like this as even we cannot return them once they have been fitted either.

Was it an engineer that knew the MFI products that you got out? In my experience getting an engineer unfamiliar with specific appliances, especially these days, can work out to be a lot more expensive than the few quid you supposedly save initially on the call charges. But irrespective of that, any decent repairer will repair the appliance regardless, even if it ends up costing them money so the engineer that you got, if he’s any good, should sort it out for you as that’s what you paid him to do.

Yeah Mark, but there’ s still the SD issue as well to consider, hence the reccomendation. 😕

Re: New PCB – Diplomat ADP8224 Dishwasher

    Steven,

We are regulated by EU legislation as to how much information we can actually give out, please understand that we cannot go into exact specific detail on certain faults.

Whilst unlikely, it is possible that you have a faulty new timer and, in that case, I would refer you back to the supplier. It is also possible that the old one was faulty in more ways than one and not detecting the proper error. Essentially it’s a tough one even for us that are familiar with the appliance, hence I advised you to seek out someone that is familiar with the appliance.

In so far as I can see you’ve reset the machine properly so that isn’t the problem.

Without looking at the appliance further diagnosis is difficult at best but most likely not possible without going through it bit by bit and in person.

I really think that you have no option but to get someone that knows the machine in to look at it.

But surely, logic dictates that if the cost of transportation and raw materials increases then the cost to transport engineers about has also increased as well? Given that fuel is probably the next biggest single cost after labour and, let’s face it, old bit OPEC aren’t exactly doing us any favours on that front, or Gordon Brown, or George Dubya and his little war (rightly or wrongly, let’s not go there), they should look at an increase to compensate. It’s only logical, isn’t it?

Re: Whirlpool Double Oven – Knobs Melt!

No it’s not right, or certainly doesn’t sound it Rob. Getting a manufacturer to admit they’ve cocked it up is however and entirely different proposition.

The only thing you can really do is get a hold of Whirlpool customer services and see what they say. However I’d suspect that they’ll try to charge you the callout to come out with a set of knobs I’m afraid. 😕

One of the Whirlpool guys may be able to shed a little more light and perhaps offer any guidance.

No chance of a kilt, reserved for weddings only and even that’s under duress.

I have something planned alright, but I’m not giving the game away until the evening in question. 😉

    Re: Bradshaw Group

Oh I intend to counter claim, don’t worry.

The FSB I will be having a chat with it looks like as Bradshaws have not even responded (as yet) to my offer to settle this without court involvement which would have left me with a loss. I thought that was a very generous offer, but apparently Bradshaws are hell bent on going legal with the thing.

I also got a letter from their solicitors informing me about their intent sent to both the business adress and my home address as well. It would appear that from this they are trying to smear my personal credit record as well as the business one, lovely people to do business with eh? I still do not know how they got that information. And this is despite the fact that the error was pointed out to them in writing!!

Do a search for “e2 reset” or “diplomat reset” in the forums and you’ll get slews of results. 😉

I’d agree with Martin, unless the timer is set to “auto” then it’s most likely zapped, the only good news is that that’s liable to be the only really sensitive electronic part that would take any damage.

The hob, if it’s got auto-ignition, is liable just to be the switch or switches on the gas taps that are faulty which probably had little to do with the lightning strike. Sounds as if they are failing to release and leaving the ignition unit energised. They do fail on most brands, but I’m not familiar with that particular appliance so I don’t know the exact setup.

    Steven,

I would, in this case, advise an engineer that is familiar with the appliance as, if you search through the forums you will see that “E2” indicates another problem and is more often sorted without the timer being replaced.

However, the soap dispencer problem could well indicate a timer failure.

You will also find, in the forums, the reset procedure on several posts. There is no configuration to be done at all, just install, reset and it should work assuming that there are no other issues.

Pop up your postcode or have a look in the directories as there are quite a few of here that service Diplomat machines.
