KeymasterHi,
When I read the title I just smiled and thought, “yeah if the poor customer has an M3025 they do indeed probably need help” based on my experience of them. That should nicely frame the tone of this post.
The wiring diagrams and tech info from Servis is, shall we say, not the best. Quite often the wiring is not colour coded on the diagram and you have to trace it point to point. That’s not just Servis that do that, a lot of Italian firms do it. I was once told this is because they will use whatever wire they happen to have on the line irrespective of colour during production.
If the module flashed it will be, almost without doubt, totally goosed as they’re not the most reliable at the best of times. We used to change them like sweeties for Servis, every other call seemed to require one especially on the 3025 and it’s brethern, so much so I could have rattled the part number and price off the top of my head until we stopped working for them several months back.
The upshot is that to put it right you’d need a wiring diagram and a module at best. The module we can do, the wiring diagram we’re not allowed to give you by law, blame the EU for that one. 😕
But I’d have to ask, on this machine, why bother? Really it’s not worth the effort in my opinion.

KeymasterYes Mark, too true!
A Samsung I had the other week had overheated to the extent that the soap drawer had melted! Thankfully Samsung just exchanged the machine, but still that can’t be good.

KeymasterWas UKW mentioned or something? I’m at a loss to explain 180 people online earlier this evening which has obviously played havoc with the server. 😕

KeymasterYes Dave, quite correct. However the margins in browngoods (the reference for consumer electricals even if they’ve been black and silver for years) is a totally different structure to whitegoods and offers retailers the chance to use sales tricks like discounting, intrest free etc. etc.. You also have to remember that they are (generally) much lighter and easier to ship, that also has a bearing.
However, the biggies are that traditionally retailers warrantied the products themselves which offered a far greater discount from the (supposed) retail price. Added to which many of the products are “return to base” for a repair, you can hardly ask a customer to bring a washer into the shop for a repair as most people simply couldn’t do it and, again, that increases the price of major kitchen appliances as servicing costs are obviously higher.
There are bargains out there to be had, I know as I’ve gotten some of them, but a retailer selling all stock at crazy knockdown prices and not just the odd special offer is, to me at least, extremely suspect. Sadly in this case the suspicions were not unfounded.

KeymasterYeah, that’s partly the cause Alex but when you add all of the things together it just grinds to a halt.
I am reliably informed that the biggest cause is that the dbase is getting hit so much that the current server just can’t take the load, but it is a relic from a bygone age to be fair. From memory I think that it’s an old Pentium class CPU with only a 9Gb drive and 256Mb of RAM, hardly speedy by today’s standards.
The replacement is a dual Xeon job with a whole load more power to cope with current and future requirements. However the real beauty is that it is easily upgradeable, unlike the one in the US. The bandwidth available will also take a jump by (again IIRC) a factor of 10 in normal use and 100 in short bursts so, just a little improvement. 😉

KeymasterAh the memories eh? I cut my teeth in this trade on those damn things, some introduction that was!

KeymasterI don’t think you can, I hada a quick look at the parts list and there does not appear to be any way to put the hood into a recirculation mode which is what I think you mean there. But in my experience, recirculation mode on any hood I’ve seen is about as useful as a chocolate firegaurd IMO.
I would suggest that if there’s some way to get the hood vented then that would be the way to go as this is a double motor hood so it should be pretty reasonable if correctly vented.

KeymasterRe: Bradshaws & The Importance Of It
Thanks Kev, a gent as ever. 🙂
What I would say is that I’m not asking anyone to give up anything, work or money and it’s really up to you guys to choose your own course with it. Of course, publically, if another few were to support such an endeavour then the effect on the industry could be, shall we say, a tad profound.
What you have to remember with UKW is that all the WP’s and manufacturers are watching the site and they do play close attention to what goes on, if we start getting shirty then they will make note of it. If we all start to support one another in certain areas, such as this, then the shoe is on the other foot to a large extent. Don’t get me wrong, this would not make Nirvana but it would make them think twice about firing off against any one of us for fear of retribution from many.
Whilst it is worth consideration and could well start to show that we have some backbone I will not ask anyone to do it on my behalf as that’s how it would look to a degree. Although that can be gotten around.
It is also more worthwhile with a small contract like Bradshaws as there’s less damage to be caused to any of us by refusing to do work for them as it is only crap really and low volumes. But it could show a willingness to participate in such action should the need arise in the future. Yet again it comes down to setting presidents but not being hamstrung by them at the same time as, since it is the choice of the individual to participate, each case can be taken on its own merits.
As for not saying anything about it, well I’m on a bit of a cleft stick there, again! 🙄 As I write the news and publish the news as well as being at the centre of the news in this instance, but Dave can write it up. 😉
In fact, it may be an idea for Dave to contact Bradshaws for their side of the story for an article in UKW, even just that may be enough to make them think again about this.
With stuff like this there’s loads that we can do and I like to think that we’re a bit smarter than the average bears in here so I’m quite sure that we can come up with some pretty ingenious ways of beating the bastards.

KeymasterI had an old dear call me about 18 months ago that had a WD262 (which should strike fear into many hearts) that needed a door seal!
I’ll let Alex explain. 😉

KeymasterI’ll get you a reference in the morning Sparkey as I don’t have the doc I need here.
What happens is that I basically allocate a member number to each subscriber that is yours for whatever you need it for, it is not used or re-used for anyone else. Once allocated it should remain the same for good for all things UKW, it keeps things simple and I like simple systems. 😉

KeymasterRe: MP3 Players
Tony, autochange, singles..not a good plan. 😉
At the wekend I finally had the cash and the inclination to get an MP3 player and it was a Creative one, the Muvo2 4Gb affair. Pity the wired remote thingy is a pre-release order from Creative, but that’s a non-issue right now.
The problem is the bad habit I now have after only two days of use…
(well I’m blaming the MP3 player before some smart ass says summat :P)
Wandering about late at night with AC/DC (the rock band Martin, not current etc.;)) blaring in my lugs! Seriously this brings back welcome memories of booze fuelled single evenings where the only thing I had to worry about was being capable to drive in the morning! Not that that’s such a bad thing in itself I guess, the problem is that the drinking kinda goes with the territory! 😆
As for the Tom Cruise underpants dance, never did that.. WAY too scary. 😉
Not only that but the damn thing’s so small and light you don’t even know it’s there! Technology…. gotta love it! 😀

KeymasterHateful, hateful things they are… no end of trouble IME.
I’d far rather convert the valves electrically but that has it’s own problems. At least Candy had the decency to issue a tech, bulletin and put it in writing that we were allowed to do it without invalidating the warranty as you’d altered the spec of the appliance. Far safer than relying on a dodgy bit of plastic though as you found out today! 😆
Plus those taps, I just shudder. Cheap but rubbish.

dmanicolo wrote:We have had it for 2 months now, its used at least once every day. Has it worn out already? Or is there anything else I can check before calling them up. Are call outs free, during (1st) year of manufacturers warranty?
It should be covered under the waranty as P says so you really have to call and wait for Merloni per the warranty. Getting an engineer from Merloni right now would appear to be a whole other issue though. 😕

KeymasterRe: New Server…Soon
I don’t think that the sheer volumes of page views that we’re recieving is helping the situation at all right now and I’m at a bit of a loss to explain the current level of hits we’re getting. Frankly, there’s no way that I can imagine that it’s down to crawlers or spiders that search the internet indexing information for the search engines. So that really only leaves people viewing the site. Why and where they’re all from I really don’t know just yet as the advanced web stats module appears to be borked right now. 😕
That will be cured though, just a matter of time really like so many things.
