KeymasterNow, thanks to Trevor and some very ingenious manipulation of the phpNuke system this should never happen again unless we come up againts one smart motherfucker. A very clever thing has been done to prevent it from happening again and that’s all I’ll say.
Script kiddies need no longer apply for a free ride on UKW I don’t think, it will take someone a bit smarter than your average to get in now. There is still some upgrading to do on the forums, but the primary point of entry is now closed.
What we have to remember is somethign that Li once said to me…
“If it is on the internet, it’s vulnerable to attack”
The trick is outsmarting the bastards first. 😉

KeymasterDavid, you may well not get an answer till Tuesday when life returns to normality and suppliers all come back. Brace yourself though as I don’t think it will be cheap. 😕

KeymasterDASA may have an answer there with a new scheme that they have running if you’re a member.
Other than that, there’s little hope I’m afraid and a growing problem that has been discussed here before.

How’d he do that then? Beat the servant with the hose to clear the sink? 😉

KeymasterWell I’ve had a couple of phone calls about the NESN meeting and it would appear that NESN will take action against anyone that continues to work for CDSL after the 19th of this month. Nice.
So, if you’re in a position where you can’t keep the work you have due to this (IMO) disgraceful contract clause just set up another company, get a VAT number and switch the CDSL work over to the new company. I’m quite sure that CDSL will work with any of you on that so you can continue to do the work and stuff NESN.
There’s loads of other stuff in what I’ve heard but the topper is an unconfirmed (officially) rumour that the MD of NESN, Jonathan Trubshaw lost a vote of no confidence in a directors meeting. I wonder why that might be? 😉

KeymasterYes, some do appear that way sparkey, but not all are cast in the same mould. Some manufacturers are progressive and want us to help them to, in turn, help themselves and I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all.
Maybe it will show those that are trying to get one over on us that there is more value in not doing that. We can but hope.

KeymasterProbably the ignition block faulty or the button/ one of the buttons stuck down locking it on. That’s about all it can be really, I would suggest isolating it from the mains and giving all the buttons/knobs a good clean off and try it again.
If it persists it’s likely that the block is faulty that being the case you can look at a repair but it is gas so you’ll need a CORGI registered repairer.

KeymasterIt can keep till all the ducks are in a row. 😉
Already I have done considerable work on various projects behind the scenes and trust me when I say that UKW is well considered in many quarters as is what we have and are trying to achieve.
More soon.

KeymasterWell the question I have often asked a manufacturer or two is, what is an appliance that is returned worth? In re-work terms about £50 as a general rule, then there’s the cost of shipping it about as well as the hassle factor involved in that as well as all the paperwork involved.
Doing this could save hassle for manufacturers as well as ourselves and allow us a bit of scope to make a few quid.
One thing that many manufacturers would throw back is that selling the appliance cheap devalues the product and brand, I don’t think so. If it’s a grade or a re-work you have to, by law, sell it as such or you are misrepresenting the goods which is a big no-no to any reputable company and anyone involved with such a scheme through UKW will be made to sign an agreement stating that they will not break the law. That will be enforced and I think that’s fair comment. I feel that there’s a mutual benefit to be had working with manufacturers and, possibly some retailers, on this.
As for the WEEE directive, yes it does get the manufacturer out of that little problem in such cases, again a benefit for them.
On the whole I think it’s a pretty good idea for all concerned.

KeymasterHi Mike,
IT could be a valve fault, fill chamber or a couple of other things. To be honest if you’re not sure I’d advise an engineer for the appliance.
Transporting the machine on its side shouldn’t have caused anything untoward to happen but, stranger things, as they say. 😉

KeymasterRe: Dual Fuel Cookers – Corgi or not?
Albert wrote:As a final point (and I refer to the CORGI manual, gas cookers and ranges second edition) if after performing all the relevant checks, ie gas pressure, gas rate, flame supervision, etc etc, the customer still complains of poor cooking performance then a victoria sponge cake should be cooked
The only sponge I see in all this is CORGI! 😉

KeymasterPenguin I thought you were off on a (non-Artic) holiday!
For God’s sake man you’re getting as bad as me, just can’t keep away from UKW! 😆

KeymasterNo I think it’s worth a bit of effort, don’t get me wrong, to at least try to revive it.
What I’m struggling to understand is, what is it?
Under CH it was a (IMO unrealistic) standards driven thing with legal bits tacked onto it and a bit of information being passed about. IMHO DASA did little else for anyone under his leadership.
Now where is DASA headed, what is it to be, what are the goals?

KeymasterDontcha just love them “grey areas” 😉
My understanding of this is that, as wizard stated, if you disturb the gas supply then you have to CORGI. If you open the lid, you have to CORGI.
So, essentially, you have to be CORGI.
The rules do allow, from memory, that you can replace seals, knobs and elements so long as it meets the above criteria. The problem is, how do you know in advance that the gas would or would not have to be disturbed to do the job? 😕

KeymasterI agree they are two different things entirely and that time will tell.
