    Hi Julie,

In the UK the Blomberg name is basically a brand name for Comet and most of the washers are made by either Brandt Group or Philco (Merloni) and I am not aware of any commercial appliances using that name in the UK.

The problem is that in different areas of the world the manufacturer that owns that brand name will often “lease” the brand name for use by another manufacturer for that region only. For example the Frigidaire name is owned by Electrolux and is Lux product sold under that brand in the US but in the UK it is an independent distributor that owns it with the appliances being produced mostly in the Eastern Block countires. Likewise there is a similar situation with the name Kelvinator, which actually doesn’t really exist as a manufacturer anymore.

So in effect, it could be anything in disguise. 😕

The only thing I can offer to do is, if you give me the model number, I’ll plug it inro Agora (Brandt’s spares system) and see if it pulls anything up.

Yes I have to say simce using the FPS, TPS & MPS the junk has dropped dramatically as well.

As for where they get the names, well there’s Yellow Pages, the phonebook, Info Disc, the BT disc….

    Need I go on? 😉

There’s loads of them out there now, calling up to sell you pens, support this and that local charity, ink for printers at “reduced costs” (my ass ;)) and a host of others.

The latest scam I detest is the one with a pre-recorded messge on an incoming line, you can’t hang up!!!

And, with the removal of all the call centres from the UK to India of late, some little Indian on the phone using VOIP with clicks and buzzes offering to sell you advertising space or an entry in some directory no-one’s ever heard of.

TBH I have eliminated that problem to a degree as I now avoid as much as possible anyone with a call handling centre outside the UK. It’s bad enough trying to get the accent over to some of our collegues in call centres in England never mind some mud hut outside Bangladesh! 😆

(Not a racist comment, merely the way I see it I’ve nothing against any colour or creed, even the Welsh! ;))

If CORGI et all don’t get the finger out then yes it is going to be very restrictive and TBH too expensive to even think about, even training new engineers to work on it is now just silly IMO.

This could only cost you a phone call. But save you pounds in legal costs.

Very good advice and remember that RETRA also offer free legal advice, I don’t know what else it covers as I’ve never been a member of RETRA but I think Dave was perhaps he can shed more light on that.

This is one of the reasons that we were talking about a fund to cover us for these little gems that we get every now and again as well as the possibility of offering some form of legal cover so that, should the need arise, we can bite back. 😉

As I said though, the object of the exercise is not to fight anyone, just to be in a position where the option is open to do so if it is really necessary to do so.

Make that two that I now know about that are of the same opinion, if yours is different then that’s three lawyers all with the same opinion. That in itself is nothing short of a miracle. 😉

Now here’s a new spin on an old problem…

Company goes bust, new management takes over the same day removing the old. 😕

Okay nothing new there really, but the line getting fed out from various sources is that this was okay as there was someone in place to buy the business and it was, effectively, business as usual. They still went bust…skint…no money! No matter how you spin it it points at one of three things, either mis-management or not getting paid or paid enough to do the job tasked to you. I have to say, given recent events and rumbles on the grapevine I suspect the latter. 😉

Yes a company called HAS has gone bust so I’m told which is the third Whirlpool Service partner to fail in about two years from the info I have. Not good.

Makes you wonder what one will go bust next and also explains why the Whirlpool guys are unhappy I dare say.

Again speaking volumes isn’t it, but are Whirlpool and others listening? 😕

Hmmm, well if they’re offering £30 a call all I can say is that anyone that takes it like at that money wants their head reading! Idiots, just idiots.

Regardless of NESN’s position on it the only people that can force the rates up are us by demanding it in the end, so arseholes that take work at rates like that I have no time for.
