KeymasterI believe that some solutions to that are being worked on Dave, I’m sure there will be more comments on it soon enough.
However I would like to point out that many of the team that worked on the MFI network are working on this project and there is interest from several parties in using such a network. It is therefore imperative that you “get your name in the hat” as quickly as you can whether you think you can meet the requirements or not for the moment as there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
This most likely will lead to good solid work without the middle-man’s huge cuts we’ve seen of late which means we get paid more in effect. That can’t be bad can it and certainly no worse than what we’re having to put up with from some work providers right now?

KeymasterWas that a day looking to employ whitegoods engineers perchance? 😉
Looks as if the future may not be so bright for some people. 😕
Here’s my issue with this though, there is only one place that anyone can employ engineers from and that’s from the staff that’s already out there now. So all this will do is raise salary levels again to margins we cannot afford and force engineers to move round a bit.

KeymasterJP wrote:BEWARE OF THE DRAGON!!! Marks wifes a pussy cat really you just need to know how to handle her. A bunch of flowers works wonders. A night out on the canal would be ideal, wonder what Chris will think though when he books the hotel meal for all his cronies.
LOL and I’m sure Mark’s wife will be pleased when that gets reported back! 😉
Hmmm, see more politics with Chris, this is a reccurring theme. ?
JP wrote:It will probably be the begining of the end especially after the letter I have written to him. DASA is an association for our industry not a one man show , and definately not for that person to pick and choose who he accepts and renoews memberships for.
You’re kidding aren’t you?! Surely he can’t do that?

KeymasterOkay, update on this.
After spending all morning in a blind panic due to Ted’s call this morning I had three people trying to hack this, it was a non-starter! They got nowhere!
I also checked the phpBB bulletin boards etc and there are no known security holes in this version, period, worldwide and there are rather a few sites that use this board software so we’d find out. There are even some that are used for sensitive purposes and it is reccommended as secure.
So that brings me back to the earlier conclusion, someone was evesdropping, heard it mentioned, put 2 and 2 together and went fishing. I think to an extent that Dave Parker is frightened that he’s missing out on something TBH.

KeymasterThis is what I’ve been on about with NESN though, there’s this which will undoubtedly hit the browngoods turnover as they are actively chasing NESN’s accounts as well as the seemingly diminishing pot of money to operate from. Couple this with all the other factors and I’d bet a years pay that they are really skint right now and are operating on a day-to-day basis.
When they lose the Coverplan work, which they are going to, they are history, but I really don’t think we will see them reach that point. They have coverage problems now, they have financial problems now and they have staffing problems now.

Keymasteryep, that’s what I was talking about the other day, Mike whatever at Gwynne TV is heavily involved there as well. 😉
One thing did come to light when I spoke to him about it and that was that they were intending employing someone to go in and negociate on their behalf and he seemed keen to use the site to launch this. Now, since they’re brown goods and there are NESN directors involved it leads me to the conclusion (the only one I can see) that they want to form anoher psuedo NESN type thing and that moving into whitegoods is on the agenda. That’s one of the reasons I’ve been pushing the idea of our own network before these idiots get involved and basically fuck it up.
There are others out there waiting to pick up the pieces when NESN collapses, but don’t want to have their name in play just yet from what I can gather. We’ll see what shakes out.

KeymasterYes, both meetings were good and I do think that a lot of interest has been sparked by efforts all round. Now all we need do is to keep up the momentum and it will happen on it’s own as people are looking for some way to improve their lot as it were.
I really don’t think that we will have to worry about attendance at the AGM, in fact, I actually think that you’ll find that it could be a record breaking attendance level. Which is good for us, but it’s really gonna scare the shit out of some people! 😉
Not that I care about upsetting the apple cart a bit mind. 😀

KeymasterLooking good to me, even though I don’t do weekends unless there is enough work to justify it or someone that pays enough to justify offering it! 😉
As for holidays, sometimes a slight disruption is unavoidable but it’s usually pretty well planned to avoid as much as possible, any slowdown in response. I think that’s a thing we all just have to manage as best we can really.
BTW, this thread is VERY important, please leave comments even if you’ve never posted before as the more information the better this can be idea will be for all.

BTW, see the post in the main general trade forum, I’ve started. 😉

KeymasterYep, totally agree Kev that is the way to go with it and let’s face it, even just in here there is a huge pool of knowledge to draw on for this.
I hav eno intention of making this an issue till next week as I do enjoy giving JT et all something to think about over the weekend. 😉 In fact, he and some others should have had a few shitty weekends lately and my heart bleeds for them, not! 😈 As I said to Dave today… do unto others…
Yeah, let’s get something tangible to work with first and if it does start on he list or on here I’ll confirm that it is in discussion but no more and news will be posted as soon as poss. I don’t see ht as an unreasoanable response to a direct question or to stop wild speculation and/or rumours.

KeymasterYes this will need some careful thought I reckon as well, it’s a huge topic an dis sure to remin one for some time as there is a lot of ground to cover with it.
I don’t know about the “hub and spoke” thing though as, at the end of the day, although the theory is sound it’s never ever worked in practise to my knowledge and can lead to all sorts of problems. Not that any method is problem free mind, it’s not! The best idea thus far is definetly the telephone system like Whirlpool’s in my opinion then no-one feels as if they’re being shafted as all the calls would go directly to the agent in the area. Again, you get problems with the areas! No cover in some, too much in others, it really is a tightrope walk this is.
I think, and it is only a think, that the best thing to do initially is to look at the DASA members, place them on a map and see where they all are and waht sort of coverage we can expect first of all. After that we can look at that info and see what would seem the best course of action to benefit as many agents as possible.
Dunno, I’m thinking out loud here, that’s the point of it I guess to air the ideas and come up with the best solution for everyone.
