KeymasterRe: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers
A few I guess but, there’s always machines going on fire, washing machines, dryers, fridges and today even a vac.
The point remains though, you need evidence, data, what caused it.
Without that, saying much of anything you can easily end up looking a right muppet if you’re wrong and, with no evidence there’s a good chance that’ll happen.
The media are looking to fill whatever with content, they need stories like this, the more shocking and the more eye catching the better. Truth, facts… secondary.

KeymasterRe: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers
Based on how many instances?
Trouble is suppressors going pop are not exactly anything new or special. Often it’s down to the quality of the mains supply or indeed the conditions the machine is in.
To arbitrarily state that they (or anything else) are dangerous or should be recalled without evidence and clear data to back that up is a fool’s errand I’d hazard.

They’re the ones with the protection in them, hence the cost.

It’s an older Asko machine Jim.
Should be the FHP carbons at the top of that page.

KeymasterRe: Westinghouse Fridge/Freezer
That looks like one of the original old US produced WW machines.
There is no support for them in the UK whatsoever and there hasn’t been for two decades. So far as I know they were “grey” imports and not really even supposed to be in the UK in the first place.
The only chance you have of getting the parts is to source them from the USA however, I think you’ll struggle to get them even there as most owners of the old US Westinghouse appliances normally find.

KeymasterRe: washed PVC apron in wash !!
More maintenance washes or trying some Afresh to clear it is about all you can do.

Probably just the thermocouples as you suspect but, without a model number impossible to tell you what ones are required.

KeymasterRe: SAMSUNG – MARTIN DAWES
TBH Ally, after my stint with Samsung, they’re welcome to it.
The admin requirement on that contract is just stupid which completely negates the “premium” rate, not that it’s all that good these days.
I wouldn’t worry though as, some way down the road they’ll either fall out or Martin Dawes will vanish and Samsung will be left scratching about looking for service agents… again.

KeymasterRe: Smeg A42 main oven not reaching temperature
That thermostat, the real part number is 818731181 by the way, the other used to confound people, seems correct and pretty standard fare for Smeg.
If it gets to 50?C and there is heat in the oven then it may be that the cooling fan isn’t cutting in and it’s halting on an overheat, which is what I think Dave is getting to.
Essentially there are three thermostats on most of them, the thermostat that you’ve replaced that controls the user settable cooking temperature, a fan initiation thermostat that, when the oven gets to a certain heat kicks on the cooking fan and, an overheat stat that chops the heat off if activated.
If the cooling fan doesn’t kick in the oven will rapidly overheat and shut down as a safety precaution.
Hope that helps.
