KeymasterRe: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers
The Swan brand is owned by GUS though (IIRC), did they even buy any dryers from HP?
Thing is, if dryers aren’t correctly maintained or, you put stupid things in them or even just do stupid stuff, they all have the possibility of going up in flames. The media don’t really want to hear that though or that a lot of instances (if not all) will almost always come down to something to do with the use etc.

Squadman,
I merged it, it’s easier than splitting off on tangents as, it’s largely all here and this point has been made here also.
Just run the math… you’ll get some interesting info.

It’s okay, Martin only understands the Queens English (the Hampshire dialect specifically), urban slang and regional terminology throws him all the time. 😉

KeymasterRe: Grundig GKN16820W Fridge not cold enough
For a domestic fridge, that’s not at all bad. One or two degrees variation is pretty normal and largely expected on normal domestic units. The only way you’d get more accurate stability is with zoned areas, meat chillers etc.
I very much doubt you’ll get much better regardless of what you do.

Many an instruction manual has in it that the product has not to be run unattended for leaks, fires, it breaking and goodness knows what else.
Yet, they fit delay timers.
I suspect as customers demand them more than manufacturers really want to fit them as, after all, who’d want to leave something running that could have an issue, washers leaking are a classic.
I do understand where you’re coming from Martin but, fridges and heating products like boilers you’ve not really a lot of choice about and, the instances of failure on those as well as the potential for harm are I suppose lesser than they are of laundry and cooking products.
I’ve always maintained that laundry and cooking products should not be left running unattended as, if it does go South on you, you’ve no chance to do anything about it at all. At least if someone’s there any damage could be limited.

Life of it’s own I guess but yeah, misleading I’d agree.
The Mirror really has it in for them though….

I think there was another one of those the other day down Plymouth way that they got a kicking about as it was 10 days just to look at it.

KeymasterRe: symbols meanings please
The infinity loop type thing is just a power light I expect.
e = Eco or Economy.
R = Rapid
1 = Rinse
2 = 65? hot wash for really dirty stuff including pans etc
2e = guess 😉
3e = more intensive than 2e but, largely the same thing
4 = much like 3 only faster so not as good a wash
The lines below offer a hint at how long they all take. The lower the block, the poorer the wash cycle or, the less soiled the dishes need to be to come out clean.
Short of it, use 2 or 2e for most things and you’re done.
Use 1 for when you put stuff in but aren’t going to wash that load for a while as you add more.

Have you tested the heater, that’d be the “go to” for that.
