Re: No More Gas Cooker Repairs!

    Actually… 😉

Induction cooking is becoming more and more common and liked in commercial cooking although some chefs do prefer gas.

But, it’s cheaper to run, easier to clean and safer as well as cheaper to maintain so, it won’t be long before it all switches to induction anyway, regardless.

As you say yourself, electric is better.

You can get electric combi boilers right now, not much if any more cost than a gas one. Expect more as landlord, that don’t want the high cost of maintaining gas ones, switch to that.

    So, no loss there then.

Heat pump prices will come down and in any case, there’s a huge rise in that, geo-thermal and so on pushing on gas ones.

The only reason a lot of people stick with gas is probably as, that’s the done thing, that’s what they know so, they resist change.

But it doesn’t make a jot of difference if you can’t the things installed or repaired does it?

Or, if there’s nothing coming through the pipe, you’re a bit stuffed!

Re: the daft things engineer do !

    Err. Maybe not.

    Let me set the scene….

Wimpey development with over 200 homes on it, all with the same Candy washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, oven, hob and hood. And, as they’re new builds they often don’t have house numbers or, Wimpey reported it and just gave you the plot number which, naturally, isn’t the same as the street number!

Guess how often an engineer would rock up to the (wrong) door, “here for the washing machine” (etc) only to find they’d got the wrong house.

The crazy thing is, people let them in even when there was nothing busted. People are mad.

What, all 195 that voted for it?

I can see the logic in it Martin, it does actually make perfect sense to get rid of gas.

    Re: Vented dried in garage?

    The answer is, maybe.

Problem is that if there’s too much condensation it can alter the resistance of sensors if it forms on the terminals and obviously the chance that something will go *bang* due to the same.

I can’t see what you mean or guess with no make and model but, yes, you will always get some ice forming.

    Re: WTA listings

Folks, just so you know and I hope that people see this or relay it as required…

Some of the old links to the WTA website will be broken.

This is sadly unavoidable as we updated the website substantially and some of the old components were no longer supported or, dramatically altered. Sorry, not much we could do about it as the TA site had to be brought more up to date.

I’ve corrected the links I could find but there will be some that will be broken still kicking about.

The member search is currently offline.

There is a plan going forward with that which will make it a *LOT* better and easier to manage but, for the time being it’s sadly not available. Once it comes back online though, it’ll be great and work just like the UKW one we hope so, you’ll get targeted work from it directly via email. Or, maybe better still but, that’s for another post, another day.

In the meantime please forgive the downtime and bear with it.

This is also a large part of the reason for moving the meeting registration as, I at least knew this was going to happen some time ago and while we did what we could to protect as much as possible we had to accept that some things we just couldn’t fix or bodge up to work.

On the upside, the new site is prettier, easier to navigate and more secure so, all round a win even if it has put everyone out a little bit.

If you’re interested at all in the WTA, just bored, want a good read or whatever here’s a good article on why you should be a member, then click on the “read more” in the “Membership of the WTA” box, it’s a good article on why we need a TA.

Or, use this direct link: http://www.whitegoodstradeassociation.o … hy-to-join

There’s not a huge amount of new content there but, there is some and some refreshes.

If anyone finds anything broken I’d be most grateful if you could let me know so I can fix it.

    Thanks

    How do you mean?

The layout now changes dynamically in line with the stuff set by Google etc. So it should be easier as it’s now all mobile friendly other than some weird bits of the stylesheet.

Sure sounds like the switch has had it, it’s about all that can cause that I’d think.

The switch in the cooker is this one:

Give me the model number and I’ll find it. 😉

Four digits, then another bunch of digits on the rating plate. The first four are what matters.
