Yeah, Bearing kit £15, having the skill and knowledge to fit it correctly and ensure the appliance is left in a safe and satisfactory condition £80. Yes it’s profit, but not a crime. Just the way the (capitalist) world works.

smartin wrote:same scenario here, i left in march, 2 weeks later i get a letter saying i owe them £107 as an overpayment, i questioned this and they worked it out as a mistake, in their favour to £233. i asked for a breakdown and recieved a screen print of my payslip with what looks like their kids maths homework has been done on it. from there i recieve a letter from a debt collection agancy saying in no uncertain terms pay or we will take you to court.
i phoned to advise them that they had got their figures wrong, saying that there were 2 days that i was owed and not been put on there, she questioned my old boss who said put it through as it is, but after i spoke to him he then agreed to email HR saying i am owed this.
great i thought so i ring HR this afternoon, asking if she got his email, oh yes she replied and i have worked out a final figure,£ 220 odd quid, what happened to the 2 days holiday i am owed i ask, oh its a mistake by your manager they were put in late, or some other twaddle like that i stopped listening once the new sum was worked out, so now im waiting for the final, final, final amount i owe, any help on how to deal with these back stabbing, money grabbing, jumped up muggers with pens would be appreciated.(in my opinion) This seems to be a recurring theme. Not only was the whole closure/redundancy thing done unprofessionally they now twist the knife. I will refrain from obscene language, but I wholly endorse the sentiments expressed in the last sentence in smartin’s post. There were several questions remaining to be answered when I left in March and I doubt they will ever be answered. I am bitter and angry about the whole thing.

Cheers guys. There was a small surface mounted fuse on the pcb which had obviously failed. Pity the the components are encased in resin thus necessitating full board replacement. Replaced motor too just in case there was a fault with that causing explosion on pcb. It was a Chinese manufactured model BTW

Thanks for the speedy response! I was thinking along those lines, my list jumps from H46 TO H52, usefully omitting the one I want. Welcome to the world of the modern appliance!!

I had a letter telling me I owed fuel (about£138) for the full month of March as I hadn’t submitted my fuel return. Nice one. My last day was 16th March. I was on holiday for the 2 weeks prior to leaving but was asked to return the car on the Thursday 15th (last day Friday 16th) for logistical reasons. This means effectively I am owed a days holiday (£80+?) as returning the car to centre constitutes work. Also as personal use of the car was part of my terms and conditions, I have been denied a day’s use which I calculate to be about 8 quid. Unable to submit fuel return as it was done via email using a template calculator. The company laptop was returned with the car and the company email account was blocked sometime on Friday 15th so go figure how could it be done.
Ignored letter. Perhaps if they hadn’t treated us so unfairly I may feel a little guilt but they can shove it. I’m ready to fight this one all the way.
Having moved to pastures new, I now realise how shoddy the Comet service really was. From industry safety standards to customer care, they really were dangerous! (In my opinion)mirmay

“Establshed” means nothing other than the fact that it exists. I could start a company and as of the first day of trading I will be “established”.
Likewise, “a number of years” is just that – a number, be it 2 or 20! Bland generic wording designed to psychologically plant an impression in the reader’s mind.
Grand claoms of 24 hour call-out with attendance within 90 minutes nationwide. Good luck to them. Time will tell……….Getting back to the original topic, I am recently ex Comet, luckily secured a job with a manufacturer and I have had my eyes opened to how poorly equipped, trained, managed and generally screwed over us Comet engineers were.
Op-capita have been really vicious and ruthless in their quest to asset strip the company – to the point of being borderline legal on a few issues (allegedly). Yes I’m bitter, but only because we at the coal face were raising issues about the service department and the way it was going 18+ monthe ago and with constructive feedback that fell on deaf ears I reckon we could have been the envy of the white goods repair industry. Anyway glad I’m out of it, very happy now 😀mirmay

Heard this morning through the grapevine that the hub in Harlow for distribution of spares for engineers in the South is set to close, transferring operations to the Northern (Skelmersdale) hub. Rapidly disintegrating. I expect the Comet high street brand to be non-existent within 12 months!!

Heard a vicious rumour today that some of Comets T.V. repairs are being sent to an unknown midlands adress and being repaired by ‘Tech-Guys’. In my PERSONAL AND CYNICAL view, I wonder if the great John Clare is in the pocket of Currys stil. I mean – take over the competition, chop them up and sell/dispose of them and take a huge fat brown envelope for doing so…………..

And Sainsbury’s white goods are supplied and repaired through Comet. (strict policy not to divulge this but hey, feck ’em!)

I can confirm all of the above. Minimum statutory redundancy pay for those that stay to the end, nothing for the fortunate ones that get a job in the interim. As usual we (the staff) knew more by reading the press and UKW forum than we were officially told (nothing)

The Yanks are a strange bunch in many ways but the one thing that remains a constant is that most of them would sell their gran for a fiver. The other thing is that, in corporate deals, they make most look like amateurs.
If you wanted to drive down the price for a toehold in Europe what would you do?
Being seemingly completely and utterly disinterested would be step one to get the price down. You just manoeuvre it so that all or, almost all competition on the deal bow out and buy at a knockdown price.
Could be completely wrong of course.
But why I wouldn’t be prepared to bet.
K.
Wise words.
