    Re: sat nav

If you get a PDA running Windows mobile which has GPS on it, you can get the TomTom Navigater 6 Software for it. You then have Sat Nav but when your not in the car it becomes your address book, camera, phone, email unit, mp3 player, etc. Just makes it more useful than standard Sat Nav.

HP do a good one (although not cheap for standard sat nav). Check out the HP iPAQ rx5935 on their website.

Check out http://www.1and1.co.uk/?k_id=11503526“. Prices start from £1.99 per month and they have cheap domain names.

Re: Any good software for Jobs

I’ve just tried the installation again on Vista and it has installed fine. Try downloading the file again as there could have been some corruption during the download.

From my previous post I forgot to mention the default password for the program. When asked just enter “xxx”.

If anyone would like a Demo of ServiceBase they can click on the link below to download it. It is a fully featured copy which will time out at the end of March. There are about 20 jobs in the demo copy so you have something to work with but the diary appointments attached to them are a bit out of date.

    http://www.pccontrolsystems.com/1477/sbdemo310307.exe

ServiceBase has been designed for any type of repair centre and most of the features in the program have been suggested to us by existing customers. We also have repair centres up and down the country that may be willing to demonstrate the program or I can offer a demonstration at our site in Northampton.

If you have any questions please contact me on 01604 609225.

    Kind regards

    Re: virus/spyware

I use NOD32 for antivirus, cost about £30 to buy then £15 per year, they all offer a months free trial so I spent half a year doing my own tests and settled on NOD32. I’ve also tried Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, AVG, Avast, Computer Associates and F-Prot. Kaspersky is good but it kept crashing, AVG is the best free one, Norton and McAfee both hog memory and slow the computer down.

Agnitum Outpost is a great Personal Firewall which includes spyware protection, it costs £10 per year to keep it current which again is nothing for the piece of mind of knowing your protected.

Re: how do you back up your pc ??

Its nice to see you are actively thinking about backups, I speak to many companies who do not keep backups and have lost losts of data.

In most cases all you need to do is copy the files from the My Documents folder to to external memory, the external memory should show as a drive in My Computer. So just right click on the file you want to backup in My Documents and go to “copy”, then go into My Computer, double click on the drive icon for the memory stick, then go to the Edit menu and Paste.

If you are backing up from a custom software package, there should be a backup program included, you should be able to point the backup to the memory stick and save the backup directly to the external storage.

There are other programs which will backup the whole hard drive but this is unlikely to fit on a memory stick.

If you can post what type of data you are trying to backup I may be able to help more.

    Re: web site

If you want a budget hosting company, I use FM Hosting (http://www.finditmax.com) for a charity site I run, its only £1 per month. Then you need a domain name, so go to http://www.123-reg.co.uk or do a search for domain names on google and get a domain name for £2.60 per year. I’ve never used it but 123-reg even have a Home Page wizard so you should be able to do it quite cheap. Software for creating web pages is usually available on Magazine CDs as well.

As far as I am aware they are moving call manager users over to a new web-based system hosted by them, we are providing an alternative interface for NESN jobs.

For what job specifically, it looks as if your trying to cover brown, white and phones with one bit of software there?

How much is a basic install then?

    K.

ServiceBase was designed for any type of repair centre, we have users in White Goods, Brown Goods, Heating, Mobile Phones and Computer repairs.

The Basic ServiceBase package costs £299 but this does not include the field calls diary or stock control, you will need the Professional version which is £599. There is support included in this cost for the first year with a £135 charge each year following. In the next few weeks we will be releasing a feature to link to N.E.S.N. which will allow you to replace Call Manager with ServiceBase. Although there are cheaper packages around, ServiceBase has full support available and is continually being improved.

    Re: Phone Scam?

Surely phoning people to get their email address to sell wouldn’t pay, they need thousands of email addresses to sell even for £50, surely it wouldn’t pay to get them manually in this way, they’re more likely to have an automated system to pick them out of forums such as this than paying someone and BT to get them via telephone.
