Hi Everybody , I am surprised and overwhelmed by the supportive messages I have received . My worst problems initially were that the surgery left me very weak , hardly able to walk , and deeply depressed . After about a month , I went back to the Doctor . He said that if was all in the mind .
So I decided that the solution was to give myself a good kick up the arse . I decided to get my pushbike out . The first day , I managed half a mile ,and had to sleep afterwards . Day by day I kept at a
it ., I now do at least 10 miles a day .My best daily mileage to date is 18 miles .I am working towards cycling from Lincoln to Boston , adistance of 33 miles , in one day .Several family members have agreed to bike with me . It should be a day to remember.
Initially I could not watch TV or a computer monitor , due to eye strain . Things are gradually improving . Incidentally , to anyone who needs to undergo surgery , modern anaesthetics are marvellous . No pain , and no sick feeling afterwards . So once again , many thanks for your comments ,and I wish you all well.
@Ian , [ Dales Electronics ] call in for a cuppa one day soon .neptune
ParticipantRe: Bra wire nightmare
Try forcing a wire hook between drum and front plate . Then rotate drum and hook together to drag bra wire to 12 oclock position . with gravity on your side maybe you can hook it out.

ParticipantRe: speed awareness course
Does not my old theory about all vehicles being fitted with intelligent speed limiters suddenly seem strangely attractive ?

Went to one of these today. Customer says machine shows error but no code . under my test it showed error 5 , fill problem . Problem was actually machine filled and emptied contemporaneously [at the same time] due to drain syphoning- waste hose pushed too far down drain.

ParticipantRe: Electromagnet.
Wilf , I have tried all of the above. I have asked questions on the internet , asked universities , nobody knows. I f we take this to the extreem , using thin enough wire , I could build an electromagnet , powered by one AAA battery , that would pull cars into my backyard! Come to think of it , I might start a scrapyard!

ParticipantRe: Energy Efficiency Con
Talking of false claims by manufacturers, the thing I often think about is spin speeds. When did anyone last use a tachometer to measure the speed of a spinning drum. Any engineer will tell you that the life of a bearing is inversely proportional to the square of its speed. In other words , double the speed , and reduce the bearing life to 1/8. So how come we still use the same size bearings as when drums spun at 500RPM?

ParticipantRe: Scraping the barrel
Finally managed to contact this gent again. He is old and a bit forgetful. He still maintains it is a wash pump, but I think it is a spin pump. He is now saying it is a plastic pump with an alloy wheel that takes a round section belt. If anyone has one and is willing to post it to him, would they please email me at kenliquorpond@tiscali.co.uk. witha phone number. If anyone responds and ends up out of pocket as a result, Iwill personally re-imburse them. Perhaps loopey? Thanks.

ParticipantRe: The most useless metal on the planet.
kwatt said” you could say that about any currency you choose”. A prime example of this is our own. Did you notice that for many years now, our “copper” coins have been made of copper plated steel. Try them with a magnet…

ParticipantRe: The most useless metal on the planet.
It is true what you say. In the real world, it is perceived value that counts, rather than true value . But in the final analysis, collecting gold is no different to the glass beads that explorers used to carry to trade with the natives.

ParticipantRe: The most useless metal on the planet.
The chavs who bought gold jewelry back in 1989 probably paid as much for it as it is now worth in scrap, because one pays for the craftsmanship as well as the gold. Sorry I have none of this worthless metal to give you, but as I have always beem aware of its lack of worth, I never bothered to obtain any . It is true that this worthless metal has been used for trade for thousands of years, as also have pebbles and, at one time, iron nails.[which do have some real value]. Beleiving in something for a thousand years or more does not make it so. How long did we believe the Earth was flat?

ParticipantRe: Performing Rights Society
So strictly speaking, If I walk into a customers house whistling a copyrighted tune, I need a License. Also, did you know that if you stand on your drive, and wave to a person up the street on his drive, you theoretically need a license, because you are communicating intelligense from one premises to another, using electromagnetic waves[light]
Maybe it is time to start a radio station broadcasting traditional folk music, which is too old to be copyrighted. -
