First remove mains electric plug from wall socket [do not rely on just switching off socket.] The likely cause is o blocked pressure ptot . First locate the pressure switch . this i s a circular object under the lid of the machine . It has several wires connected to it , and also a black rubber pipe , or possibly a clear plastic pipe . The pipe is about as thick as a pencil . Remove back pannel , and trace this pipe down to the pressure pot . This may take the form of a plastic adapter fittod in theend of a larger black hose .Carefuully extract this adapter and clean it out . Also clean out the larger pipe with a suitable rod or stick . Check the thin pipe for chafing / pinholes . You may lose some residual water from the larger hose . Protect floor . If you dont feel competant to tackle this , your local engineer on Repairs@ will do it for you at reasonable cost . Reasseble machine and test

ParticipantRe: Practical jokes.
I was an apprentice on GPO telephones back in 1963 . The foreman sent me to the stores for a yard of pidgeons milk . The stores counter had an old fashioned brass ruler let into it . Dipping his finger into a pot of whitewash , the storeman drew a lin alongside the ruler . “There you are son , a yard of pidgeons milk .” he said . I replied , “wrap it up , I`ll take it with me .”

You have a situation here where its a case af do or die . I suggest you try the following . First get the machine outside . I take it you have removed the pulley nut . Get someone with strong hands to hold the remains of the spider inside th drum using a mole grip , hand vice or similar tool . if all else fails wrap the remains in rags to protect the hands . Before you start , pour a full kettle of boiling water over the pulley hub , to expand the aluminium . Now , while thespider is held , using a block of wood against one of the spokes , hit the block with a hammer to knock the pulley round in an anticlockwise direction . Nut must be removed first oc course . use a 30mm socket on a T bar , and knock that around in a similar fashion . In my experience this is your best hope .

ParticipantRe: Sneaky Police Speed Trap
I think there may have been other similar threads re vehicles and speed . I recognise that my views my not be shared by many , but I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEM . I had 27 years driving HGVs at home and abroad . For the last 8 years the vehicles had speed governors , which limited the speed to 56 mph . I could never understand why vehicles driven by professionals holding a special license were governed , and those driven by amateurs were not . I welcomed governors , why speed , risking life and limb , just to finish earlier , and get less pay ? Now imagine if all vehicles were fitted with interactive goverors , which automatically adjusted ones speed to the speed limit . The benefits would be as follows . Instead of the 20 percent of the time we spend watching the speedo , we could watch the road . Accident would be cut by about half . Road deaths like wise . Vehicle life , and tyre life would increase . At least 10,000 extra cops to tackle real crime ., at no extra cost . The nations fuel bill slashed by £1,000,000 . Can anyone suggest a single disadvantage ? In theory , insurance bills could be reduced [ I did say in theory ! ] If the equipment were available , I would buy it today . Some kind soul please tell me why I am wrong .

In my time I have been a telephone engineer , run a mobile fruit and veg shop , a proffesional musician , a builders labourer , a brush sales man , a busker , an artic driver at home and abroad , and most other things except a Saggar Makers Bottom Knocker . A bit like the song , I did it my way…

ParticipantRe: Bosch door interlock prob
Here is a way you can test an interlock . this test is best done in the workshop , and not in the customers premises . You will need a “rapid connector test box” of the type used to test appliances not fitted with a mains plug . Remove the interlock from the machine . and grip it lightly in the vice . now take 2 lengths of wire with covered push on connectors on one end . Using the multimeter , on low ohms scale . test every combination of 2 of the 3 tags untill you detect the internal heater of the interlock .[perm any 2 from 3….] I you cant detect the heater the interlock is knackered anyway . If you can , you then feed mains into these 2 tags , using the 2wires from the test box . Next , using a small insulated screwdriver , operate the slider of the interlock into the locked position . It should latch in this position . Let it sit there for aminute or so . Pull the mains plug out of thwall socket , and acting quickly , use the multimeter on low ohms to test for a loop between the spare [non heater ] tag , and each of the heater tags in turn . If you find this loop , The interlock is ok . If not , its knackered . Rember , even if it passes these tests , another fault may cause the door to fail to lock . For example , on some early Zanussis , a worn escutcheon plate can cause this . Hope this helps someone…..

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool interlock wiring
Thanks again chaps , fitted the new 5 tag this afternoon , and it worked OK . The secret is , to check that each wire in the plug fits to the same terminal number on the new interlock as it did on the old .

ParticipantRe: Bosch door interlock prob
Martin stated that all 3 wire interlocks have a live wire to it , a neutral to it , and a live from it . I beg to differ . All three wir interlocks have a live feed and a neutral feed , but the c wire is connected to neutral out on some machines . The old metalflex interlocks fitted to some older machines have a cicuit diagram printed on them . This clearly shows that with the interlock operated or locked the third or C wire is connected to neutral . Your comments?

ParticipantRe: mutlimeters/tester
Because of the risk of loosing stuff, I use servicable but cheap gear . I use a digital multimeter from Argos at £20 ! It is actually better than the Avo mark 8 I used years ago which cost £400 and weighed about 10 times as much . Cheap tools work OK for me because I dont own them long enough to wear out . Other examples are a small metric socket set from the local cheapo shop at £2 a go [I buy 5 at atime ] and a big half-inch drive socket set from Argos at £20 .
