ParticipantRe: Servis M6755B no spin
I have resolved this. Went back with a heater. machine now connected up . Started it on what i thought was a spin prog. It started to Fill, tthen it overfilled. cleared pressure system, and tried agaain . This time it filled, and started to heat. Obviously a previously selected wash prog had not cleared. I told customer to let it run its course, and if successful to try it with a load. She rang later to say it worked OK. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Many Thanks kwatt for that reply. It is a frightening thought in this economic climate, when even banks go bust. Iwonder if one could insure against this possibility. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

It is a semi permanent fixture. I do remove it sometimes. It take 5 min. The winch stays put. the bucket handle detaches from the floor hinges on two quick release pins of the type used on tractors. then detach winch cable and lift the lot out. With it in position you can access the rest of the van by reaching or crawling through the frame. Make frames as tall and wide as posssible for access. If you want to carry more than one machine, load the first one and push it forward off the platform . Load second one, and leave it on the platform. If carrying just one, fit a rope or strap to stop it moving forward when you brake. Run winch from vehicle battery or a slave battery [ does maybe 20 lifts per charge].My lift has been in daily use for 6 years. I could not do my job without it.

@Spanner51. There follows a brief description of my tail lift. It works just like a skip lorry picking up or dropping a skip, but istead of using hydraulics, it uses a 12 volt electric winch, with a 2000lb pull.[Ebay, about £70] If you imagine a skip without sides[just a platform ] you place the appliance on this. The lift needs to be custom built to suit the van. mine is a Kangoo. So we have a frame in the form of an inverted U with square corners, a bit like a bucket handle. Tha two verticals are of 2″ by1″ dox section ,The top cross bar is 2″ thick-wall tube, like scaffold pole. This frame is sized so it just fits through the rear door opening of the van. It hinges on 2 floor brackets, about 3″ inside the doors. From said crossbar hang 2 more legths of box section, about 2″ shorter than the previous ones. and hinged near to the ends of the crossbar. These terminate at the lower ends in a platform big enough for a washing machine to stand on . This cosists of 1″ marine ply, reinforced with 2″ angle iron along the sides.Due to the top hinges, the platform stays vertical irrespective of the position of the bucket handle. Now imagine the platform on the ground, behind the van. The bucket handle is roughly horizontal. Put appliance on platform. The winch, which is mounted iside the van roof near the back doors, has its cable attached to the center of the crossbar. Use the winch to pull the bucket handle almost to the vertical. Then, by hand, push it over top dead center, lower it to the floor and shut the doors. SAFETY. Always stand well clear whilst raising and lowering load. It would be best to make a rough wooden model to get the dimensions right. If it would help, I might be able to show photos later this week. This is what I did. For legal reasons I can NOT advise you to make one.neptune

@Streetlighter. Dont give up, you just need to revise your business strategy. I have a minimum charge for bearing jobs of £90. She is buying a new machine? Why is she not buying it from You???? What you sell is up to you. YOU are in the best position to sell her a machine. Offer to deliver, install, and dispose of old machine. I sell Bosch WAA24171 at £350, markup about £95, or Amica at £240, markup £75 and comes with a 2 year guarantee. I try to limit sales to about 2.5 machines a week so as to stay clear of VAT threshold. Most customers are too lazy to shop around, and definately too lazy to install a machine. Stop throwing money away man! Do your homework and decide what to sell. I also sell White Knight dryers. I can handle machines on my own with my homemade electric tail-lift. Details on request. Spring is coming. Get out there and make some filthy Lucre! Take note of my motto below.neptune

A word of caution to anyone who wears boiler suits. If you go to the toilet for a dump, be very careful how you arrange the upper half, or you may get a nasty surprise when “re-installing” your boiler suit. Here speaks the voice of bitter experience.

Would it not make sense to share this sort of info with all of us on the trade forums? Just a thought…

ParticipantRe: who to work for now
Never tried leaflets. When i started, we had 2 local newspapers, one of which was free. For ages, I advertised in both. Later, an advertising survey I did showed that the free paper gave 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the jobs, so I dropped the other paper, which was the costliest. However, different strokes work for different folks. Yellow pages was not cost effective for me. In addition to ma small display add, I also used to run a one-line ad in the articles for sale column. Print a few postcard sized adds an d display them in local post offices and shops. I got several jobs like this, including the local chip shop. Have yopur van sign-written [ £100 ] and be sure to have your phone number on the back doors. When i collect my grandson from school in the van, I often get women approaching me. Sadly, the just want the Washer fixed. Some say Parish Church magazines work for them. Leave no stone unturned.

My missus watches ALL soaps. I tend to spend time on the computor instead. I refer to the soaps as the Mahogony Miseries. Most of the time is taken up with close-ups of women with skin the colour of a sideboard crying their eyes out.

ParticipantRe: amica appliaces
I did manage to get a look inside one of these a few days ago. The first impression was that they are well engineered for the money. There is a large removable panel at the lower front, which is held by 2 screws. This gives access to the pump [askoll] ,and to change motor brushes. The drum [not a sealed tub] is mounted on three suspension legs. Machines seem to be issued without a guarantee card , but I am told the warranty is covererd by “Dimplex” whoever they are. I too am looking into selling a few of these, if I can source them at the right price.

ParticipantRe: Beko Over-filling
test pressure hose by blocking one end, and blowing in other end whilst immersing half of hose in water. look for bubbles[leaks]. reverse hose, and test other half. use spare length of hose to operate pressure switch by mouth when machine is filling. does filling stop? Use at least one meter of hose to keep yourself away from live machine.

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
Went out to a Hotpoint condenser dryer today. reportedly leaking water. When I opened the pump chamber, I noticed that the float from the floatswitch was missing. When I asked the customer about it, she said that she had been opening the pump chamber after each load and emptying it with a sponge! When I asked what happened to the float, she said she had thrown it away because it was “dirty and disgusting!” When I explained that it was an essential part of the machine, she said “I never thought of that!”

Hi Phidom, would you care to translate your Latin signature for us. I too used to have a Latin Motto- Non illigitimus carborundum. Meaning, Dont let the bastards grind you down.
