Further to Rob’s post, there are two possibilities here. Firstly the pump itself is worn and its action is becoming intermittent. This is a common problem with the “magnetic” type pump motors fitted to virtually all modern washers. The timer may move through the end of the programme if drain is not detected in the time allowed, to seek new drain positions further round the dial. Secondly, the timer unit may be faulty and its switching action is becoming erratic. Rarer, but not uncommon. For instance, if it drains out at the end of the wash sequence every time, but drain at the last spin position is hit and miss, it may well be the timer playing up.

You rang?
I think you’ll find that this is the water level control system playing up. With the machine empty and the power off, check that the tube from the airbell at the bottom of the tub to the level switch is not trapped, kinked trapped or holed or contains water. Blow clear if so.
Slight possibility of electronic board failure, but this is unusual.

Read the topic properly Mike, you’ll find that I have complained at the complete inability of UKW members to keep any given thread on topic. This includes you, with regard to this one. Given that is is now so far off course that it’s original purpose has been all but lost, I can see no harm in throwing in my two ha’pence.
And no, I am quite capable of offering up an opinion on this issue without a promp from Mr Watt.

Further to the post above, a few further thoughts. These new producers are just that – producers. There is no product innovation, purely the manufacture of your design. Where companies do manufacture off their own bat, you can look at the ongoing Haier dishwasher fiasco. It’s a copy (presumably licence-built, or at least design bought) of a cheap European product. The component quality is awful, the build quality shoddy, reliability as we all know is non-existant. Oh, and there are problems getting spares. But, it sells as an economy model into the built-in market. The old “Gift horse” adage has probably never been more true.
However, certain economies pull through – Japan is now a world innovator in electronics, and now is turning the tables, using Korea and Indonesia as manufacturing bases to play the game back to the West. And you can’t honestly blame them.
Somewhere further down this forum is a rather bizarre thread discussing the purchase of burners for gas hobs, initiated by a chap in China. Their sales point was $25 from memory. That’s scary – lack of ambition and initiative.

R2 up til 12 (Ken Bruce is amusing and plays music from my younger days), then R5 til I’m home. Except om Wednesdays, when it is necessary to turn the radio off between 12 and 12.30 in order to avoid listening to the spoutings of a pack of naughty schoolboys claiming to be the government.
We have more intellegent discussions in here………

The other problem with this is that each new market develops for one reason only – it can under-cut the existing one on cost. The major production cost is the human factor, so if your workforce can survive on pennies, your costs are lower. Until the next country comes along. With prosperity in any economy comes expectation from the workforce – they want a better standard of living. Perhaps this ultimately explains growth in the Chines and Indonesian sectors – basically police states where any success will probably hidden from the workforce, thus maintaining the low cost base.
However, as the market moves on, the previous market is effectively abandoned, with out of date technology and often no means (funds) of disposing of it.
If you take developments in our industry, you may have noticed that it’s virtually impossible to buy a washer with a good old fashioned tick-tock timer anymore, due to the rise of the digital control system. I can tell you that in my Comet days, it took a girl 8 minutes to attach the 80 odd wires to a Newpol Super 800 timer, and another girl 2 minutes to check the work – about 1 in 30 had a mistake, which had to be rectified. By comparison, a digiboard may have 3-6 connectors which go snap, snap, snap in 20 seconds. Work the saving out for yourself. I would go so far as to say that the “technological advances” brought by the digital revolution are a smoke screen covering the fact that the appliance can be run down the line with a saving of at least 8 minutes from one worker.
It’s the real world.

There is a conceptual problem with posting Hoover model numbers…….. There are hundreds of models, the number will take whoever looks it up for you straight to it. Printed on the control panel and on a label on the door opening surround.

Defo hinge failure Matt. Always replace as a pair – p/no 931330551 each side. Email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.
The new pair will have enough tension to overcome the resistance of the door seal.
