ParticipantI think you might have got us with this one! The only thing I can find that might give you some help was this:
http://www.hoover.com.auCuriously enough, Hoover Australia appears to be part of Electrolux!
Good luck and regards,

ParticipantI got ‘O’ level physics 30 years ago – does that count?
East Driffield College do a DA course, and Graham Dixon does a private one in Hull.
Still can’t beat going out and doing it though.

ParticipantOne flash is usually a fault in the motor speed control circuit. This is usually a component failure on the computer board. Unless you’re cleverer than we are, you need a replacement board, but you still need to know WHY it failed!
As Dave has suggested, these are not the best quality machines; there are far better ones out there.
Without being rude, your best bet is a better quality replacement appliance!

ParticipantRe: Splat a Penguin!
MARTIN RUSSELL YOU SINNER! Have you any idea what you have done?
We’ve got a five computer network at home; four of them are currently being used for the random torture of innocent Penguins, whilst I type this.
The only compensation is that the twins (8yrs) think it’s essential to shout “MARTIN!” every time they swipe a penguin …….
God will get you for this!
Chris.

ParticipantFootnote if I may – the “monoblock” condenser unit – the big folded aluminium job in the bottom – must be kept clean – a showerhead is good, a garden hose is better to ensure the efficiency of the dryer. All filters and channels must also be kept clear. Bear in mind that the machine is basically an air pump with a heater, so airflow is everything! Finally, don’t dump laundry on the floor at the front of the machine – this is where the exhaust air will vent and can restrict the flow; thus tripping the safety.
Bear these points in mind and your machine should soldier on for a while longer.

ParticipantOh, God – Mrs P has joined in now and has just announced “Two penguins into one hole.”
I don’t think I want to there.

I’ve just rattled up 977.5. The kids are wanting to know why I shout “Martin!” with each swipe ………..
Chris.

ParticipantThat’s the baby, thanks again.

Participant“Retractable timer knob” sounds like one of those posh southern ways of saying pop knob!
Looks like Dave has solved it – thanks mate, may you bathe in beer.

ParticipantNever mind the cheek; have you got one!?

ParticipantHo, ho Steve – this one IS a tank out – lots of fun to be had. IRC this one even has the same bearings and seals as the Hotpoint as it is basically a Candy in a skirt – just lots more work to do.
DC might be able to tell you a bit more in the morning as he has every manual ever printed for anything!
Luck,

ParticipantThe entire front of the machine will unscrew, revealing the tub front, which will unclip. Rember to replace the tub front plate seal at the same time, because the old one WILL leak.

ParticipantVery unfortunate for the above poster. If you have been caught in this, it is essential that the local police and Trading Standards are advised in order to build a full case against any perpetrator – otherwise in a few months time – new website, new phone numbers and away we go again!
If all victims of this complain, hopefully it will be stamped out!

ParticipantThat’s the probe, Helen. If you followed it back you will find a skinny gas filled tube running back to the switch on the control panel. Any nips, serious kinks in the tubing or breaks will cause the thermostat to stop functioning.
