ParticipantTV? I’ve got a brain! Insomniac you see – 4 hours will do for me (5 after a few pints). Mrs P would get me out there 18 hours a day if she could!
Cheers Pete,

ParticipantNice idea Sparkey; surely this has to be a heater fault – it needs to be meggered while immersed for earth leakage, probably needs replacement, and the water level control chamber flushing out., They’re so and so’s for choking up.

ParticipantQER at Workington do the reconditioned boards. Contact on 01900 67913 – give them the board number and credit card, you get it next day for around £40.

ParticipantI’ve been waiting a year for parts from Alba for a Hinari table top dishwasher. Fortunately, the customer saw the light after several months and we sold her a Zanussi Studio type dishwasher, so she’s happy.
However, it’s a point of principle now! If I ring to progress the order, I’m told “2 weeks”.
Anyone know of any ankles I can bite down there?

Penguin.

ParticipantStreetlighter,
Go, then make your own mind up. If nothing else, you’ll contact like minded people in your own area; and you don’t have to join a club to have a few local contacts!Personally I found DASA didn’t float my boat some 10 years back, but I’m willing to be convinced.

ParticipantNo, just sinking deeper into the slough of despond that is the more usual lot of the England cricket fan …….
Mind you they’ve competed in these games, but a few runs short each time, and one wayward bowler out of your main attack each time and it slips away all too easily.
Good to see Tresco getting a decent ton though.
3 weeks and we’ve got the New Zealanders, so maybe a return to euphoria!
May the fourth be with you.

ParticipantI meant it – we are rather wonderful. We can give some advice to someone who lives in WS, while I live in LS – I can’t help him, it’s not local and it’s not costing me anything except a bit of time. Hopefully, a week maybe from now, we get a post saying “Thanks”, making US feel better.
We get perhaps one letter a year from a customer who doesn’t realise that I’m not an employee and we’ve got them all in a file, which I do, occasionally, pull out and skim through.
It’s not just the money, it’s the satisfaction as well.

ParticipantSome years ago, when the anti-trust / monopoly thing started with Microsoft in the States, I came up with a wonderful solution to all their problems (Brilliant stuff, beer). I wrote (paper – you remember) to Mr Gates and outlined a way ahead.
This was to basically find a small, indebted, 3rd world country……….. and buy it. Clear the debts, refinance it, make the (small) population all share holders in (say) Burkino Fasso (Msoft Corp)2000 Ltd, move the business across in toto and carry on. The concept was brilliant – you even get a seat on the United Nations! Whoever heard of a COUNTRY being indicited on Anti trust legislation?
Needless to say, I didn’t get a reply, not even what my sister refers to as a PFO (Please sex and travel), although I am now probably lurking on some little secret file somewhere…….
If you like the idea, find a book called “The Henry Root Letters” – how to cause chaos by correspondence is probably the best decription. Very, very funny.

ParticipantIt’s not just Lotus, is it? It’s Microsoft as a whole that you hate!

ParticipantCouldn’t you have sold him a tank and REALLY upset him?
Tee hee,

ParticipantVery true. My Mother had a bad experience with a Hotpoint Princess back in the year dot, and won’t have a Hotpoint appliance in the house to this day!

ParticipantMartin,
You don’t suppose they’re actually getting Peterborough to make them do you? If not, we’re looking at Blythe Bridge being the last production plant (for the t/d’s and cookers) which would be hugely ironic, being ex-Creda!

ParticipantNothing wrong with the slimline Whirlpool toploaders (apart from being French) – it’s just a sideways automatic. The only time it’s awkward is if you need to pull the retaining clip off the “blindside” bearing. It ain’t exactly difficult!
Bosch slimline dishwashers? Think like the maker! Take it outside and turn it upside down, then take the base off. It’s all there in front of you. Easy!
We miss the point perhaps. There’s bad engineering – cheap continental ovens are a case in point – then there is cost engineering…. I hate to say it, but the prime culprit is Hotpoint. The descent from the robust late 18 series/early 95 series plastic tank tank machines to the flimsy lightweight cr@p of the last 95’s and the WM series demonstrates all too clearly how to destroy your own reputation. Then they try to save the situation with the WMA seies. Oh dear.
Yet so many engineers are prepared to put time and money into rebuilding them on the strength of the Hotpoint name. You can fit new parts, but if what you start with is rubbish, it’s still rubbish when you finish!
So the company is now about to launch rebadged Indesit/Ariston machines as Hotpoints, Hoover are already selling tarted up Candy machines, Servis is an Italian joke, the last Credas were made by Fagor. This leaves Dyson as the last British manufacturer – until they transfer production to Malaysia.
Smacks of the demise of the British car industry to me!
Truly bad machines are relatively thin on the ground and don’t tend to survive long because of the difficulties of getting service (sometimes even from the manufacturers), but the atrocities commited by the “big” manufacturers get glossed over because of the badge.

ParticipantIt always used to be anything starting with Candy – it even says “No Candy’s” on the adverts.
THEN…………….
I had to do a set of bearings on a WFL series Bosch with the plastic tank. What a complete s@d of a job! And I LIKE Bosch and encourage people to buy them……….
