Right. Odds on the carbon brushes are worn out, computer detects that the motor won’t go = fault. Article on carbon brush motors HERE.

On this particular motor, you will need to remove and strip the motor and replace the “brush plate”, which comes with new carbon brushes fitted. P/no is 496876; spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get one for you.

Power off, if you intend to do this yourself.

If it was very, very cheap, it’s probably from the PRC and should be treated with the deference due an un-exploded bomb.

    What have you bought?

    THIS is what you want.

If you set it to spin, does the motor run, ie, does the drum turn?

This old lady uses a carbon brush drive motor – they’ll almost certainly be worn out by now. Article on brush motors HERE. Will need the full model number to identify suitable brushes to fit your motor.

Power off if you intend to investigate this yourself.

Low heat works, high heat trips the breaker. High heat works by turning on a second set of heater coils. The heater is knackered, as per Helo_75s post.

The pulley on the motor is usually pretty secure, the one on the fan is pushed onto a spline and can move. Use two flat bladed screwdrivers to prise up slightly.
