ParticipantRe: ISE or John Lewis
been busy but now read your reply. Not at all. I would love the ISE to be the solution to all my problems. It was you who pointed out that the spin speed was slightly better on the ISE than the JL as being the major difference though the information on the link you have provided says that that is not really anything to write home about.
The 5 year warranty pushes the JL machine up to £435 with free delivery, the ISE is £479 plus £50 delivery?
Yep JL has been around for years and usually if newcomers want to compete (especially since JL has built a reputation for reliability and quality which a newcomer is going to find hard to beat until they are established) it is usually price that is the weapon.
OK, so 3 shocks not 2 is worth thinking about. As far as 2-3000 cycle duty, where’s the conviction? JL warrant y theirs for 3 years, you for 2 – tell me facts and figures but it’s just words. A warranty for parts and labour shows faith. Why if the ISE is more durable will you not warranty it for longer then?
I will look into dryers in more depth though I take your point. Are there easy figures to compare drying times with efficiency/power used? Ultimately as a consumer I would like to know how much electricity I am going to need to use to get my washing dry (and washed in the first place). And yes, I would ideally like to compare them over the same time period, not an 8 hour dry compared to a 1 hour dry. Are their such figures? What does a rating tell us then – nothing very useful?
cheers

well lumping it in with Zanussi is a good start. But it still gets 3 year warranty so it can’t be too bad.
I’m sure I read something from you maybe that said anything above 1200 is not really that useful anyway! Was it on a mums bulletin board?
Partially put off but John Lewis has a reputation built over years for good service and good quality. ISE, while I ‘m sure are very good, do not have that yet and are not exactly competing. It’s all very well talking about quality but the warranty puts your money where your mouth is and the specs are virtually the same. So I am buying on a perceived imcrease in quality which is fine but then I would expect a longer warranty?
Also, looked at the Tumble Dryer. I used to have a White Knight A rated dryer. The ISE is C rated?? Why would I want a C rated dryer?
cheers

might try that – thanks.
The only other thing that makes me more inclined to the AEG is that I emailed all of them – AEG, Siemens and Miele. Asking different questions but the only ones who have got back to me (not quite 24 hours later) are AEG. Very prompt. In fact they’ve replied to a further 2 queries while I have yet to hear from Siemens and Miele.
Now I know that Pre-Sales doesn’t necessarily reflect After-Sales but good god, if you can’t be prompt with Pre-Sales then it does worry me what the After Sales will be like…….
Any comments on Miele After Sales Customer Care/Service?

ok so I’ve got to decide between the 975 with cutlery tray or the 977 without but with (presumably) better top basket washing and foldable plate rack……
Oooh – one other question occurs to me. Will servicing be so much more expensive because it’s Miele? Parts and presumably labour too because they use computer etc….

excellent info Don.
the 977 sounds good – but why did they get rid of the cutlery tray? 2 steps forward, 1 step back???
Everyone raves about the cutlery tray – what happens to the bits of food stuck to your cutlery? Does it not just lie there, sticking to your cutlery (i.e bit of cabbage or something?)
This forum is so good….!

thanks Don,
Do you happen to know the difference between the 975 and the 977?
And would you go for this low-end Miele with 2 year warranty over the top-end AEG with 5 years?
Main factors are:
reliability,
plates/pots/cutlery cleaning ability,
ease of use/maintenance,
economy,
drying ability,
programme speed,
glasses cleaning ability,
load capacity,probably in that order……
thanks

re noise – sure but presumably still relative. If put in the same place – one with lower noise level will be quieter….?
As far as Miele – yes tempted but doesn’t come with 5 year guarantee (we’ve had 2 gone wrong within 3 years of purchase) AND do Miele make their low-end machines or are they just badged. Salesman from Huges Electrical worried me by suggesting that the G975/G977 and low-end models aren’t actually made by Miele. Then again, he also suggested that AEG, Bosch and Siemens were all the same company so shows how much he knows!

ok, retried my test. Did a reset – currently timer stuck on 0, noise from machine – I assume it is draining but there is nothing to drain. So until it finishes that it won’t fill but it never seems to finish the draining even though there’s no water there?!
Re the ZanussiTricity Bendix – yeah but they don’t come with 5 year guarantee and only have 41db noise so they are not same machine! Maybe same manufacturer but different spec…..

ParticipantRe: 2 and a half year Bosch dishwasher needs replacing
ok thanks.
Having called out an engineer once (though I think he was old school – best on pre-digital machines) and having paid him money not to get the thing fixed, PLUS my missus giving me grief – I think I’ll just buy an AEG80860 and hope for the best.
Might stick the other dishwasher in the shed and play with it a bit! If I manage to fix it I’ll sell it. If not I’ll just offer it to freecycle.org
Thanks for prompt replies – wish I’d come here first but urgency of situation made me forget about this site. Wish I’d called a UKW engineer in the first place.
doh!

no need to drain- no water to drain.
nothing has changed with regard to water feed. It’s direct from the water pipe under the sink.
It doesn’t fill with water (I haven’t put a dishwasher tab in for this test – assume it doesn’t matter). Could this just be the PCB not firing off the right instructions? Though there is “noise” from the machine – it is not totally inactive, just not filling with water and (presumably therefore) not counting down
One thing the previous engineer did check was whether it was “flooded” but it wasn’t.

just want to check fault before paying again for an engineer – i think previous engineer didn’t like new fangled digital panels etc.
Have reset the program. Then started new Auto-Clean program. Timer says 133 minutes but then nothing happens. Doesn’t count down, doesn’t pump water in. Is this a PCB problem? Or could it be something else?
thanks

ParticipantRe: 2 and a half year Bosch dishwasher needs replacing
ok – I’ve emailed someone though they live around 30 miles away. Also not entirely convinced they will have PCB expertise? Looking on the internet this seems fairly specialised skill – so will he just have to send it away to be checked anyway?
Assuming for the moment I cannot get it fixed or maybe it isn’t that simple – what do you think of the AEG, Siemens and Miele mentioned? Actually starting to go off the Siemens anyway since I have discovered that the PCB in the Bosch is a Siemens one!
Liking the look of the AEG at the moment.

yep – ok, managed to find the PCB but to my untrained eyes – and with no idea what I’m doing with a PCB, I can’t see any obvious problems. What kind of person will be able to find the fault on the PCB? What kind of tools do you need? I can’t see anything that obviously needs soldering but I don’t really know what to look for.

ParticipantRe: 2 and a half year Bosch dishwasher needs replacing
ok gegsy – thanks for this. Not sure if I am able to do this – might give it a go but who else could do this as cheaply as poss? Any old electrician – or a dishwasher repair person (though the last one didn’t suggest it).
I do know an electrician but he doesn’t know owt about dishwashers – how can I point him in the right direction? How do I even find the PCB – is it just unscrewing a few screws and then the burnt-out one will be obvious?
Thanks again

ParticipantRe: which electric double oven?
oh, and by the looks of other peoples experiences, good after sales service would be a big help. Hotpoint and SMEG have come out badly in some of the posts I’ve read.
