    Re: parts/information cd’s.

The idea of collating at the different CD’s into one is brilliant although it would more than likely have to be a DVD. I am not so sure about Mr P’s suggestion of putting it up only for subscribers though, this site has been built on the premise of free access to the trade, we are already moving into restricted areas with regards to forums and offers only for subscribers or those signing up for example to Project X.

IMO if we can get the rights to undertake this project it should be done as a compilation and sold to the trade at a reasonable price allowing for UKW to take some profit for its coffers in order to fund more projects.

If we start using restrictive practises we will be no better that the ones we are try to free ourselves from and I implore the admin to think very carefully before going down the road of anything for a price.

Keep UKW free and available to all in the trade

Re: A sign of the times?

I am very disappointed that no one from DASA has troubled themselves to reply to the points raised in these posts, if I were a member of DASA and believed in the way we were proceeding I would be defending the route we are taking and make a statement qualifying our policies and methods.

I know that members of DASA read these posts and it must be very frustrating not being able to reply, I would suggest that you get on to your committee and ask for an official statement to be put on this forum.

It is no good playing the ostrich with your head in the sand; with over 265 hits on this post you are loosing potential members! And also any credibility you may have in the trade with regards to repairers which would make up your membership.

I think that the days of manufacturers and work providers calling the tune are fading fast so I would suggest you decide which part of the trade you wish to represent them or US

Re: A sign of the times?

Ok ok maybe I’m not as eloquent as you lot but big words confuse me, I believe that things should be simple and uncomplicated, that if we are going to do something lets get it done not spend 30 years patting ourselves on the back and watching all our ideas and hope wash down the toilet. For god’s sake it’s not rocket science; we are a bunch of people that repair things, most of us work for ourselves by ourselves and for a lot of us huge profits don’t exist.

So how can we join DASA? We obviously cannot afford the extortionate subscriptions so where do we stand? At present, out in the cold. UKW threw many repairers a lifeline with its group knowledge of faults and personal experiences, the technical information on this site is second to none and if we get a problem not covered you can be sure that one of the members will know the answer and give it freely for the benefit of all in the trade.

Many members do not contribute to the site, but that’s ok they may eventually do so when they feel more comfortable in the trade and have gained the experience needed to perform better in the trade. No NVQ’s no pressure just information and assistance to improve their existing skills and quality of service to their customers so where is the harm in that? To whom is this site doing a disservice?

It is obvious to me and others that the originators of this site saw where the future lay and decided to do something about it, DASA was crumbling before this site ever saw daylight and in my opinion they could have done something like the UKW site themselves and got more repairers interested in the organization and if they had dropped their elitist attitude they could have had more members and really represented the trade.

I am sorry to say that I don’t think DASA can ever recover from the situation they now find themselves in and I believe it is now time for them to either embrace UKW as a ongoing part of the site or abdicate their so called position of representing this trade, lets be honest here, DASA has nothing to offer or has not informed us what it has to offer the independent repairer, the name means nothing to the general public and believe it or not many of those in the trade know nothing of it. UKW has forged forward in giving repairers work, training, a knowledge base and easy access to other repairers for FREE, oh there is a subscribers section but that is on for those who want to join it and no one is compelled to do so and now with Project X they are giving the members something they can call their own and be proud of, with sales and guaranteed repairs at a decent rate. Can you match anything their DASA?

I know that a lot of the DASA members will be talking about quality of service and cowboys, but UKW has even found a way of dealing with that in a fair manner. They have their own code of practice that the member has to sign up to and a customer feedback service that is taken very seriously and members who fail to give a decent level of service will find themselves taken off the repairs@ list etc, so in my opinion they are going about it in the right way, a way that is pushing the trade forward and being innovative at the same time.

Last year at your AGM you had a chance of really doing something, a chance to change and get back on track I no longer believe that is the case you have got yourselves stuck in a rut with no way out. You will be shunned by the manufacturers and WP’s alike as they turn to others who do really have some sway in this trade and you will die the death you have made for yourselves.

This is a statement of my own personal beliefs and in no way do they represent the thoughts of anyone other than myself.

I thought the award for goatboys trousers was a bit tasteless. Due to the shape of a goats back legs they really need to be that size 8)

    Re: URGENT WARNING

Just got the reply from this morning, they say that looking at the photo I sent of Mr P they could not do it in one show but would he be interested in a series? City hospital has turned it down as they don’t like to keep patients anesthetised for that long.

By the way Chris was it a pony tail, plat or bun at the back.

As usual you are correct Ken, maybe I am over reacting. I have just had words with the animal rights group and shown them the pictures from Sibons and they say although he does look a bit peaky they suggest sending him on the this morning program for a haircut and full makeover
