ParticipantRe: fault code guide
I can see a few people setting up a repairers using this App and the info it contains as well as I phone experts telling us our jobs, Although its great to keep up with modern trends once this kind of knowledge is in the public domain in one easy to use resource I am sure it will cause us issues, all that was needed was a PDF version downloadable from this site and which could be used on Iphone or android devices.
Ho Hum !

ParticipantRe: Budget
Trouble is the people making the polices and budgets are people who earn significant sums of money from being in Government, couple that large income and they all still seem to have time to sit on one or two company boards as consultants again in receipt of even more payouts. Therefore fuel at £ 1.50 a litre or even £ 5.00 a litre worries these folks very little. The rest of us are living in the realworld and we all know how bloody difficult it is to get up in the morning and go forth and make a living out of nothing!
As brits we are having the right royal P*** taken out of us and as you can gather it hacks me off, nothing political here as in my book they are ALL the same, fiddling their expenses and getting away with whatever they can !

ParticipantRe: computer running slow
As the learned amongst us will know any Operating System can be infected with Malware and OSX is no different, but OSX has its own Virus System built in and the user is always prompted to verify any installation although it is not foolproof.
The majority of virus infections are targeted towards the Windows OS and the Registery provides a nice hiding hole in which to embed themselves, OSX and Linux are far less likely to become infected but Apple have had infections ever since the old Apple LC models so its not bulletproof .squadman

+ 1 here for Mac, I have a I Mac I use for hobbies and a Mac Book Pro, Having run Windows for years, built a lot of Windows machines and then building some Hackintosh machines, I then got into Mac a few years back, for a lot of reasons its the way to go and once you get your head around the OSX OS you wont be going back to windows I would bet.

ParticipantRe: collecting your call out
This is a sticking point for many, how to collect your fee, The truth is that most of the time your customers will pay you for your honest work and opinion, a small number will not pay, how you deal with this small number depends on what is involved. In the case of attending a client, taking into account your expenses and time to further the clients problem and no parts being fitted, the sum is presumably small. That in itself would not be worth the costs in pursuing in my own view, annoying yes of course but nonetheless not worth the bother. Its a numbers game in that most will pay some now and again will not. For instance we give the same spiel to all customers when placing a call, that can be subject to misunderstanding on the customers part or thats what they may try and make the hapless engineer on site believe.
We always arrive at the clients home, ask what the problem is, take a interest in their problem BUT before anywork takes place a discussion about the costs then takes place face to face with the customer to avoid any such misunderstandings with the client being advised that you will need to pay me on completion of the work or for your estimate.
In the case of a estimate and they still refuse to pay then theres not a lot one can do, but if we had fitted parts and reassembled the appliance and they refused to pay then that introduces another element into it.
