    Re: Guarantee’s

    Martin,

Thats interesting but the statement from Trading Standards fails to specifiy a time scale in which the customer can return and demand anything !

Who is to say how long is reasonable ? Is six months reasonable, a year, maybe two years !

It is open ended terminology at best and in my mind and fails to provide a firm framework for the business retailer to work from. I would say that six months is reasonable during during which time is a part fails then you would replace it providing the customer produces some evidence of when they purchased it, after all it is the customer making the claim on you and not the other way. If on the other hand it is obvious that the part has been fitted incorrectly, or another fault existed or now at the time of the claim exsists then any guarantee period is void.

How can Trading Stadards and the associated legislation say that Yes the Customer has a guarantee which has no time scale and where the retailer offers any such guarantee they are not legally entitled to have reasonable proof of a purchase date.

This is only my view but I am looking at this as a customer and retailer and what is just and reasonable in my mind. Personally if I bought a product and could not prove my date of purcahse and it subsequently went wrong I would think it reasonable that the place from which that product came from would require proof of the purchase date.

In fact I saw a notice not two days ago in another whitegoods repairers shop clearly displayed stating that , Any Parts Purcahsed are not Guaranteed unless fitted by their engineers ! and no refunds or replacments would be considered.

That retailer has incidentally been trading for some 40 years and has operated under that policy even into this day and it just goes to show how ambiguos this trading standards business really is.

I have phoned trading standards recently about another matter on behalf of a friend involved in a dispute of some goods that they purchased and they were as much good as a chocolate fireplace and could tell me nothing that I did not already know about the subject that we discussed and most of those people employed on Trading Standards Customer Serive lines , you know where you call and provide a outline of the matter and two days later some hi-faluting individual decides to return your call and then proceeds to qoute from their screen display what you can and cannot do. Unless their is great publicity available or they have had a lot of complaints about a particular business and its been shoved upstairs they are I am afraid a toothless tiger.

Re: new type hotpoint door gasket fitting !!

Pain in the A*** springs to mind, the first one of these I had I could not get on with any of the tools I had and I have a fair few.

What I done was to buy a set of eight inch long nose pliers with a step near the end of the tip. I then machined the end of the nose to fit into the clamp.

Having returned to the machine the pliers fit into the space available and the bent end can be turned into the area of the hooks, the profiled ends slip into the clamp band and the job is done !

No more cursing, swearing and hitting the customer round the head with a eight pound club hammer !

    Re: Bosch WFG2828GB/01 Underfilling

I have been back to this machine this morning after having a word with a Bosch engineer. Turns out this machine is a Fuzzy Logic version and fills with very low water level until clothes are wetted then fills until correct level is reached of 2.5cm – 3.5cm.

I was testing the machine with no clothing and that was the wrong way to test evidently. Anyhow have this time added clothing i.e. two bathtowels and run the machine for around 45 mins on a 40c wash. Turns out that the machine fills up, then every 5 minutes or so it tops up until after 35 mins the towels were completely wetted.

I asked the customer if the clothes were coming out clean and she siad that they were not and we dicussed loading. Aa i have replaced the blown heater element I suspect that is why the clothes were not clean and possibly also that she has been putting too much in as well.

The lady has lost her owners manual so we could not see what the recommended loads were supposed to be. But going on say Zanussi Energy savers like the Jetwash range those guidlines were in some cases only 2.5kg of washing and I had many a call for poor washing results with those.

Any of you had experience of Bosch Fuzzy logics and this continuing topping up versus wash load problems.

    Re: Insulation Testing

The way we were taught to perform a insulation test was as follows:

    1. Earth to Appliance Chassis

    2. Earth to Live > 1.meg Ohm ( Some Say 2 meg ohm )

    3. Contunity < 2 meg ohm, (problem when appliance has push or relay start)

I was talking to some engineers the other day and they perform the same tests with a couple using loop impeadance testers which also function as insulation testers.

I have never blown a pcb under any of these tests set at the 500v settings or heard of anyone causing damage. However it still surprises me that there are engineers who say they do not have a insulation tester as part of their kit and that they have never needed one !

    Mm

Like the last poster I was always a map man but that changed two years back when I got my first SatNav. SatNavs have had a lot of bad publicty and some are better than others.

You need to use them with common sense and I have found that by having a good sense of direction and a decent SatNav it takes a lot of the stress away from driving and finding your way around. With a speed camera database loaded you can concentrate on driving and it gives you far more time to observe hazards such a mobile speed camera vans and ohter things we need to be aware of.

My days on the road are far less stressful than trying to read maps and when its dark they are a godsend.

    😀

Re: Good reason for not giving away information…

That said did anyone catch the topic on yesterdays Radio 2 Jeremy Vine lunchtime show ?

He had people ringing in who were saying that they fixed thier own appliances and did not want to pay for the services of an engineer, they were advocating fixing washing machines, dryers, fridges and I think microwaves !

At no time did I hear any words of caution about Health & Safety or the dangers present in any of these appliances and found the whole subject to be a real can of worms aired publically. It was irresponsible for this topic to take place like this and from listening to the people who contributed to the feature they were novices and how many listening would think Yeah, you know I could do that as well.

I emailed the show and pointed out the possible implications of the feature and guess what ? No response,

Ebay, Bought a real nice digital Mega that does a few other functions brand new for £150.00 with case.

As regards callibration you would need to send it to a specalist firm for that but I have always checked my own megger using resistors which give you a double check as to if the instrument does require service.

If you just enter Naiko you will find many spares including heater elements, timers, stats and the like.

    Still no wiring charts though

I will add something else here, that relay behind the panel is not a relay after all, but if anyone has a wiring chart that would help.

I too have been a longstanding Barclays personal and Business customer but the business bank charges have been steadily rising.

The banks have got us where they want us and the ( System ) is designed to prevent us all from having any real alternatives. I reckon we are stuck with it.
